Salford City College Group offers adult courses from Pre-Entry to Post Graduate (Level 7). We believe in supporting students in their next steps, whether they are looking to retrain, upskill, or learn something new.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT FINANCIAL SUPPORT

We have a range of financial support packages available. Many courses are FREE for eligible students, depending on your age, employment status and settlement status.

19+ BURSARY

This bursary is for students aged 19 and over who need financial support in order to attend college. If your household income is less than £30,000 before tax, and you are studying over 12 hours per week, then you may be eligible for a weekly payment. This is based on 100% attendance and engagement with learning.

19+ bursary payments are as follows:*

• Below £10,000 - up to £15 per week

• Below £16,000 - up to £12.50 per week

• Below £20,000 - up to £10 per week

• Below £30,000 - up to £8 per week

CHILDCARE FUNDING

Childcare funding is available for 19+ students who are studying on a full-time course (12 hours or more) and have a household income of less than £30,000 before tax. The maximum amount paid is £50 for a full day and £25 for a half day (per child for a maximum of two children).

A maximum 50% retainer may be paid during College holidays. If you are eligible for 30 hours free childcare funding from the Government, you must use these hours during College hours, and if you are studying for more than 30 hours per week, these hours may be paid by the College.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOANS

Dependent on your age and previous qualifications, your Access Course may be free*. Advanced Learner Loans are available to students who are aged 19+, studying certain qualifications at Level 3.

If you fall into this category, you may apply to the Student Loans Company for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of your tuition fee. Repayments are linked to what you earn and not how much you have borrowed and repayments start when you have finished your course and are earning over £25,725 a year.

ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN BURSARY

This bursary is for students who have taken out an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for their course. It is based on 100% attendance and engagement with learning.

Depending on your household income, you will be eligible for £10 - £60 per week:*

• Below £10,000 - up to £60 per week

• Below £16,000 - up to £50 per week

• Below £20,000 - up to £40 per week

• Below £30,000 - up to £30 per week

• Below £40,000 - up to £20 per week

The Careers Team are here to help and advise you on next steps and pathways available to your desired career aims. They are specialists in university progression and the UCAS application process and have strong links with university Admissions Teams. They also have local and up to date information on apprenticeship and employment opportunities.

STUDENT VOICE

Your voice and learning experience is really important to us. We carry out a number of focus group sessions throughout the year to make sure you are getting the best experience. You also have the option of joining our Student Council; speaking on behalf of the student cohort to address continuous improvement.

RESOURCES

Our Digital Learning Zones are well equipped with computers for you to use outside of your time-tabled sessions so that you can continue studying at any time when on campus. Our virtual learning environment is an excellent platform where you can find assignment tasks and resources that are linked to your learning.

ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)

If English is not your first language, we are here to support you and to help you to develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We offer ESOL courses in the day time or evening from pre-entry to Level 2 including the option to study Maths. We also have a range of course pathways for our ESOL learners including:

ESOL COURSES

Salford City College Group offer ESOL courses for speakers of other languages looking to improve their language proficiency for work, study, or personal reasons. The course covers grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing and speaking in a supportive and engaging learning environment with experienced tutors.

For all of our Adult ESOL courses you will have to take part in an initial assessment where your understanding of English ability will be determined so we can ensure you are on the right level.

HELPING YOU TO ACHIEVE YOUR ENGLISH & MATHEMATICS QUALIFICATIONS

Many employers and universities ask that you evidence your achievement in mathematics and English at Grade 4/Grade C or above.

If you have not achieved a Grade 4 (Grade C) in GCSE English Language and/or mathematics, you can study with us for FREE*. We appreciate how busy you may be, so we offer both GCSE and Functional Skills Qualifications across a number of daytime and evening classes, providing you with the flexibility to study around your existing commitments.

Adult English and Maths Functional Skills courses are designed to help you improve your proficiency in these core subjects, enabling you to perform better in everyday tasks, such as managing personal finances, reading and writing emails, or filling out job applications. These courses are typically tailored to your individual needs, and may cover topics such as numeracy, problemsolving, critical thinking, and communication skills.

FAST TRA MATHS FUNCTIONAL SKILLS ENGLISH MA

OUR FAST TRACK COURSES ENABLE YOU TO COMPLETE A FUNCTIONAL SKILLS MATHS OR ENGLISH QUALIFICATION IN JUST 3 WEEKS

These courses are designed to help you improve your mathematics and English skills for everyday life, job advancement, apprenticeships, or as a stepping stone to GCSEs. The course will start in June and will run for 3 weeks, with classes held 2-days-a-week. You will be assessed through an examination, but you will be fully supported by your tutor.

No prior qualifications are needed, but an initial assessment will determine the most appropriate level for you. The course is free if you don’t already have a GCSE grade 4 or above. WHAT DO WE OFFER?

The Centre of Adult Learning offers a range of Higher Education and Access to Higher Educations courses in:

5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or grade C, including Maths and English One A level or equivalent Level 3 qualification, preferably in a relevant creative subject.

A GCE Advanced Level Profile or a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C/4-5 or above including English and maths & a Level 3 qualification in a related subject area.

UCAS Tariff: 48 points Applicants will be required to audition for this course.

Did you know that there is no maximum age for an apprentice? You can become an apprentice at any stage in your career. Our apprenticeships last between 12-48 months, depending on the sector you wish to work in.

If you have not already achieved level 4 (Grade C) in English and maths, you will complete this alongside your apprenticeship.
