With every blessing in Our Risen Lord, Fr. Anthony

On this MOTHER’S DAY, we give heartfelt thanks to God for the gift of all mothers—those living and those who have gone before us. We honor their love, sacrifce, and quiet strength, which are so often a refection of God’s own care for His children.

We also turn with love to OUR BLESSED MOTHER MARY, a model of grace and devotion. May her maternal intercession bring peace to every heart and home.

THE SCHOOLS OF ST. MARY

Danny Green ’05 Holds Court at St. Mary’s

St. Mary’s High School Class of 2005 alum and three-time NBA Champion Danny Green returned to campus May 2, 2025. During a special morning assembly, the student body, faculty, and staff erupted in cheer for the former Gael as he walked onto the stage, warmly welcoming him back home to his alma mater, where he played varsity basketball, ultimately celebrating his first championship in his senior year.

He gave an overview of his career trajectory and reminisced about the journey, which was often difficult on the road to the NBA and not without struggles, including multiple trades once he made the big league.

He shared his experience at St. Mary’s, which taught him “a lot of discipline and work ethic.” He cautioned the students to “enjoy your youth, but don’t take it for granted ...take it seriously, because the real world, it’s not an easy place.” He added, “Make sure you put the work in now so you can live easier later.” According to Danny, balancing academics and athletics was challenging, requiring dedication and support from peers and mentors. “This part of life helped (high school and college) me realize and figure out ...what I might want to do when the ball stops dribbling.”

Danny was joined on stage by two current student-athletes who play varsity basketball for the Gaels. Laila Carr ’26 and Andrew John ’27 sat down and posed several great questions for Danny. They covered topics such as naming the most satisfying championship, which coach had the most significant influence on him and why, asking if playing in the NBA was stressful or fun, and how his faith played a role in the journey. They learned the answers to these questions with impressive composure, further piquing their interest in his career and Danny’s advice.

After their interview, the students presented Danny with a letterman-style jacket emblazoned with St. Mary’s, his career-long #14 on the shoulder, and his championships listed on the back.

Dr. Patricia Pitta (con’t.)

Teach about the Love of God through His Word: I bet you have heard the saying, “Homemade Holiness.” When we go to church together as a family and pray together at home and talk about how to manage life through the lens of faith we are living in faith. Our children will copy our behaviors and integrate our thinking and feelings about the love of God and will become active disciples of our faith. In doing so, they will be guided by our Catholic values and love and able to navigate our ever-changing world with peace, hope, and dignity.

So, there you have it, a prescription of healthy mothering based on the love of Mary for her son as your guide. Being committed and conscious to your connection to Mary and Jesus will enable you to parent efectively with respect, trust, kindness, patience, humility, and with the love of God in the center of your interactions. Below you will fnd a prayer that you can say with your children.

Please dear Jesus, give us the courage to live life through love, respect, discipline,e and trust in YOU and what we do. Help us stay ever aware of your presence in all that we do, say, and act. Let us ask when unsure what to do, What would Jesus do? What would Mary do? What would Jesus say? What would Mary say? What do I need to do? What do I need to say? How can I become the best disciple of Jesus through my actions and thoughts? How can Mary’s example inform my parenting? Amen

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Praise the Lord Our Refuge

Blessed be the Lord, who has heard the sound of my pleading.

Te Lord is my strength and my shield, in whom my heart trusts. I am helped, so my heart rejoices; with my song I praise him.

Lord, you are a strength for your people, the saving refuge of your anointed.

Save your people, bless your inheritance; pasture and carry them forever! — Psalm 28:6-9

Praise the Lord in Times of Trouble

My wanderings you have noted; are my tears not stored in your fask, recorded in your book?

My foes turn back when I call on you. Tis I know: God is on my side. I praise the word of God, I praise the word of the Lord. In God I trust, I do not fear. What can man do to me? — Psalm 56:9-12

Praise Our Mighty God

You kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; chant the praises of the Lord. Who rides the heights of the ancient heavens, Who sends forth his voice as a mighty voice?

Confess the power of God, whose majesty protects Israel, whose power is in the sky.

Awesome is God in his holy place, the God of Israel, who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God!

— Psalm 68:33-36

May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord be glad in his works! Who looks at the earth and it trembles, touches the mountains and they smoke! I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.

May my meditation be pleasing to him; I will rejoice in the Lord.

May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked be no more.

Bless the Lord, my soul! Hallelujah! — Psalm 104:31-35

Respect Life Ministry

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Closing Benediction Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Church

Radical solidarity compels us to come alongside vulnerable mothers in profound friendship, compassion, and support for both them and their preborn children. It requires us to address the fundamental challenges that lead an expectant mother to believe she is unable to welcome the child God has entrusted to her. We must do all we can to provide mothers, children, and families with the support they need to fourish. Tis cannot be accomplished by laws or policy alone, but requires the continual transformation of our own hearts, recognizing in every person the face of Christ, and placing their needs before our own.

from USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, “Radical Solidarity”

St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry will hold its next regular meeting on Wednesday, May 21st, at 7:00 PM, in the St. John Paul II Room of the Parish Center. Please join us — and bring a friend — as we explore ways to promote our mission at St. Mary’s:

Our mission is to build a civilization of love and life which upholds the dignity and inviolability of all innocent human life, seeks objective moral Truth, embraces the value of redemptive sufering, and yearns for the fullness of life in eternal communion with God the Creator.
