Dear parishioners,
“Which of these three, in your opinion, was neighbor to the robbers’ victim?” He answered, “Te one who treated him with mercy.” Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:37)
We call this passage “Te Parable of the Good Samaritan” because that fgure is held up as an example of Christian Charity. Here at St. Mary, we have named our Parish Social Ministry Center the “Good Samaritan House” to remind us of that message.
Some other cultures refer to this as the story of the “Good Neighbor” because Jesus uses it to teach us that our neighbor can be anyone in need and that a good neighborhood is one where everyone is cared for and safe.
Earlier this week, a life-long parishioner brought me for a “tour” of our parish. Tis man’s father had worked with Levitt and other developers when some of the communities that make up our parish were frst built.
As he described it, frst in the wake of World War I, and then again after World War II, the people recovering from the horrors of wartime were looking to create communities that would be beautiful and safe to raise their families in contrast to the ruin and wreckage they had witnessed.
As a sort of healing, they were taken with architectural styles that harkened to more romantic times they imagined in the past. Tis is why so may of the beautiful homes in our parish are colonial or Tudor or medieval in style.
My tour guide described growing up here as a kind of “Mayberry” - a wholesome small town neighborhood ideal for families and children.
We, in our time, beneft from their aesthetic choices as today our lovely backstreets are peaceful refuges from the noise and trafc of the main drags that run through Manhasset, Munsey Park, the Strathmores, and the Plandomes. In contrast to other hamlets, it is not uncommon to see children walking or riding bikes around town, evidence that the values sought after by the original inhabitants still prevail.
Our parish has many lifelong residents who perhaps take its beauty for granted. As a newly arrived resident, I can tell you that it is a pleasure to explore and experience it new!
With you, in the service of Jesus through Mary,
Fr. Tom

BECAUSE OF YOU,
o
Your generosity continues to help families in so many ways. SVDP received a call from a working mother with young children asking for our assistance with a partial oil delivery. Their tank was almost empty and she did not have funds to replenish the home heating oil. She was keeping the thermostat as low as possible to conserve the little oil she had left. Through your generosity, SVDP was able to arrange for an oil delivery to fill their tank, so they would not lose heat. SVDP and Good Samaritan House worked with her to apply for Project Warmth, and she was able to get a free oil delivery from them. Their home stayed warm throughout the winter.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
A Psalm (#150) of Praise to the Eucharistic Lord Hallelujah!
Praise God in his holy sanctuary; give praise in the mighty dome of heaven. Give praise for his mighty deeds. praise him for his great majesty.
Give praise with blasts upon the horn, praise him with harp and lyre.
Give praise with tambourines and dance, praise him with strings and pipes.
Give praise with crashing cymbals, praise him with sounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath give praise to the LORD! Hallelujah!
Psalm 150 is the closing doxology both for the ffth book of the Psalms (Ps 107–149) and for the Psalter as a whole. Temple musicians and dancers are called to lead all beings on earth and in heaven in praise of God. Te Psalm proclaims to whom praise shall be given, and where. what praise shall be given, and why; how praise shall be given…and by whom.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT
