With a Grateful Heart: For the Eucharist and You

Dear Beloved Parish Family of St. Mary’s,

As we gather this Sunday to celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, we turn our hearts to the Mystery at the very center of our Catholic faith: the Holy Eucharist. In today’s Gospel (Luke 9: 11-17), we see Jesus feeding the crowd with fve loaves and two fsh, an image of divine abundance and tender care. Tis miracle; however, points us toward the even greater gift He gives: His very Body and Blood at every Mass!

Te word “Eucharist” comes from the Greek eucharistia, meaning “thanksgiving.” At the Altar, we ofer thanks for the immense mercy of God the Father and the infnite love of His Son, Jesus. But the Eucharist is not only the Sacred Meal where Jesus is present and where we are spiritually nourished by His own Body and Blood. It is also the Sacrifce. Each Mass makes present the one Sacrifce of Christ on the cross at Calvary ofered out of love for the salvation of the world. Tis is why, in every Mass, we encounter both the gift and the cost of that divine love.

As I spend my last weekend with you as your Parish Administrator, the meaning of thanksgiving and sacrifce feels especially real on this beautiful feast of Corpus Christi. Today, I give thanks to God for the months we’ve shared, and I ofer to Him, with joy, all that we have experienced together. I think of every time we’ve gathered at the Altar, whether in times of celebration or in times of struggle, and how Christ has met us there with His presence, His strength, and His peace.

Dear Parishioners of St. Mary’s, serving you has been one of the greatest privileges of my priesthood. You have welcomed me with open hearts, and together, we have tried, in our own way, to bring what little we have to Jesus, like those fve loaves and two fsh mentioned in today’s Gospel Reading, and allow Him to multiply it. And I believe He has!

During this last year, you have been my spiritual family. You have prayed with me, supported me, and allowed me to walk with you through the joys and challenges of life. As I begin my new ministry as the Pastor of the Parish of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park, please know that you will always be in my prayers, especially during each celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Tank you for everything. Tank you for the love, the trust, the stories, and the journey. You will always have a place in my heart and mind, and I will always think of you with gratitude.

With love and blessings, Fr. Anthony

Today, in honor of this great feast of Corpus Christi, Solemn Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament will be given at the end of each Mass.

Let us ask Our Lord, truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist, to bless and sanctify the families of our parish. Let us come together in faith and gratitude for this supreme gift of Christ’s abiding Presence among us.

J Stewards of God’s Gifts

Rosary Society

Our Mission Statement: Te Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart

Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the diference it will make in your life.

If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.

Te Rosary Society Ends the Year with Mass, Special Presentation by a Religious Aspirant on Behalf of the Labouré Society, and Generous Donations to the Scholarship Funds of Our Schools

On Tursday, June 12th, the Rosary Society held its closing Mass of the season. Te day began with the recitation of the Rosary followed by Father Anthony celebrating Mass. In his homily, he asked us all to be more like the Blessed Mother. We should listen to what God is calling us to do, trust in Him, and say ‘Yes’ when called, just as Mary did when she gave us God’s only Son.

After Mass we had the pleasure of hearing Tess Austin give a lovely refection on the Blessed Mother, tying into Father Anthony’s homily. Tess is currently the Director of Catholic Identity and Mission for the Diocesan Department of Education as well as Director of Music for the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress.

Tess has discerned a vocation to religious life and hopes to enter with the Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco at the end of the summer. During lunch, Tess shared information on the Labouré Society, a non-proft organization that provides fnancial support to men and women discerning, enabling them to enter religious life. If you would like to obtain more information on how you can help deliver new priests and religious to the church, please see https://rescuevocations.org

As we close out the year I would like to thank all our Rosarians for their continued generosity. You have been extremely generous to our schools, parish, clergy, religious and the Daughters of Mary. Tis year, the Rosary Society was able to provide the schools with a total of $10,000.00 allowing each school to receive $5,000.00 in funding to be applied to Our Lady of Fatima Scholarship for the high school and Our Lady of the Rosary Scholarship for the Elementary School. Tis year, we exceeded our prior level of contribution by $2,000.00! Both scholarships were established by the Rosary Society. Since 2013, the Rosary Society has donated a total of $47,000.00 to the schools in scholarship monies.

Tank you for your continued support. Have a Blessed summer.

If anyone is interested in becoming more involved in the Rosary Society, please email: rosarysociety@stmary.ws

Upcoming Marian Feastday: Friday, June 27th* - Feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Just as the Child Jesus fed into the arms of his Mother when he was frightened, so too do we fee into the arms of our Blessed Mother with child-like confdence whenever fear envelopes our hearts. Just as the Virgin Mother consoled and comforted her Divine Child, so too does she console and comfort us, her spiritual children, in our afictions. We can always come to her in our time of need and receive her help.

We pray: O Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that I may ever invoke thy most powerful name, which is the safeguard of the living and the salvation of the dying.

O Purest Mary, O Sweetest Mary, let thy name henceforth be ever on my lips. Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to help me whenever I call on thee, for, in all my needs, in all my temptations I shall never cease to call on thee, ever repeating thy sacred name, Mary, Mary.

*Te Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus will take precedence liturgically on this day.

Students Reach New Heights with STEM Lesson

Recently, third-grade students from Saint Mary’s Elementary School enjoyed an exciting STEM lesson outside of their classroom during a field trip to iFly in Queens. There, they learned about the science of flight and experienced indoor skydiving firsthand with the help of skilled professionals. iFly experts have been redefining gravity and creating unforgettable experiences worldwide for 25 years. During their visit, the students explored concepts related to physics and aerodynamics while discovering what it truly takes to fly—all while having the time of their lives. The iFly team truly elevated the students’ curiosity to new heights during this fantastic experience.

Middle School Lax Makes

a Comeback

After a brief hiatus, the Saint Mary’s Middle School Boys Lacrosse Team made an impressive comeback this season, featuring 16 student-athletes from 6th to 8th grade. Under the guidance of our volunteer parent coaches, Tom Stanziale, a former D1 college player, and Kevin Walsh, the team proudly finished the season in the CMSAA League with a record of four wins and four losses. As we wrap up the school year, we are filled with hope and excitement for the promising season ahead. Way to go, boys!

Respect Life Ministry

On this Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) — from the Gospel of Life —

“Christ’s blood reveals to man that his greatness, and therefore his vocation, consists in the sincere gift of self. …It is from the blood of Christ that all draw the strength to commit themselves to promoting life. It is precisely this blood that is the most powerful source of hope, indeed it is the foundation of the absolute certitude that in God’s plan life will be victorious.” - Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium vitae © 1995, Libreria Editrice Vaticana

St. Mary’s Respect Life Ministry meets monthly, exploring ways to promote our Respect Life mission:

Our mission is to build a civilization of love and life which upholds the dignity and inviolability of all innocent human life, seeks objective moral Truth, embraces the value of redemptive sufering, and yearns for the fullness of life in eternal communion with God the Creator.

If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior through His Blessed Mother, and grow in holiness, consider joining us for a retreat in preparation for Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan House is considering conducting a consecration retreat for college students home for summer and for high school students. If you would be interested in joining us in this retreat, please reach out to Kathleen Kosciusko (kkosciusko@stmary.ws). If there are enough interested young adults, we will begin the retreat mid June. The schedule would be finalized once we have a listing of attendees.

Participants will use the book 33 Days to Morning Group Retreat and Study Guide, by Father Michael Gaitley, to guide us through the retreat. Participants commit to 10-15 minutes a day for spiritual readings and prayerful ponderings at home. Father Michael’s book, based on the writings of St. Louis de Montfort and updated to include the modern perspective of Saints John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and Maximillian Kolbe, offers readers a new dawn and a fresh start for one’s spiritual journey.

Our retreat will culminate on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (If you will leave town prior to August 15, you have the option of consecrating on your own at your own school.) For those able to attend this Consecration Day Ceremony, we will make our consecration at St. Mary’s after the 9:00 AM Mass. Participants do not have to be present at the Ceremony to consecrate.

COST: $20 includes the book and materials

CONSECRATION DAY: August 15, 2025

To register or for more information, please scan the QR Code in the top right corner or visit tinyurl.com/StMarysYAConsecration

In addition to the 10-15 minutes per day of reading, participants will meet weekly for 1.5 hours (days and times TBD) to ask questions, share insights and watch informative videos by Father Michael Gaitley. The group sessions will provide encouragement and support during the journey. These are not necessarily required but beneficial.

Dear Parents:

The ministry of St. Mary’s Religious Education Program centers on the growth and development of a lived experience of our Catholic faith. We assist the parents of baptized children as they carry out their responsibility to raise their children in the Catholic faith.

Our catechetical programs do the vital work of formal religious education. Through classes, special events, sacramental liturgies, adoration and prayer, students and their families are brought to a deeper understanding of our Catholic faith.

If you can believe it, it is already time to register your child/children for the 2025/2026 Catholic Formation year! To register now, simply scan the QR Code or visit saintmarysmanhasset.org/registration. The “Register Here” button is at the bottom of the page (follow all prompts to complete registration).

Good Samaritan House Announces Fall Bereavement Group

A weekly support group for the bereaved and those struggling with unresolved loss will begin on September 9, 2025.

The session will run for ten consecutive weeks on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30 PM. The primary goals of the group are to help the participants learn about the grief process, develop skills to manage their grief, and help them adjust to living in a world without the deceased.

The group is open to anyone who has lost a spouse, partner, parent, child, or sibling – including non-parishioners and people of other faiths. It should be noted though, St. Mary's bereavement sessions are faith based sessions that at times refer to bible verses or prayers to assist in the healing process.

We come from diferent places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world.
