From Fear to Fire

Pentecost Sunday

Today, we rejoice in the Solemnity of Pentecost: the glorious day when the Risen Lord fulflls His promise and sends the Holy Spirit upon the Church.

As we hear in today’s Gospel Reading (John 20: 19-23), the disciples were in Jerusalem, gathered in the Upper Room behind locked doors. Into that space of fear and uncertainty, the Lord enters, bearing not reproach but peace: “Peace be with you.” Ten, breathing upon them, He imparts the Holy Spirit and sends them forth for the sacred work of reconciliation: “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.”

Pentecost is not only the birthday of the Church. It is also the divine moment when fear is dispelled by fre, and human weakness is transformed by grace, as we saw in today’s First Reading (Acts 2:1-11).

Te same Holy Spirit who descended upon the Apostles two thousand years ago comes to us anew today. Trough Baptism and Confrmation, each of us has received this same Spirit and, with Him, His sevenfold gifts. Tese gifts are not abstract or distant; they are living fames that shape our daily discipleship:

1. Wisdom helps us see with the eyes of God.

2. Understanding opens our minds to the truths of the faith.

3. Counsel directs our choices toward the good.

4. Fortitude empowers us to face life’s challenges with strength.

5. Knowledge leads us to discern God’s presence in all things.

6. Piety deepens our love for God and His Church.

7. Fear of the Lord instills reverence and awe before His majesty.

Let us wholeheartedly embrace these wonderful gifts. In a world often flled with confusion and unrest, the Church must serve as a beacon of clarity, peace, and holy courage. Just as the disciples were sent forth, we, too, are called to witness to Christ with boldness and joy within our families, workplaces, and communities.

May this Pentecost renew in each of us a deep love for the Church and a willing spirit to be led by the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life.

Let us open our hearts wide, that He may breathe into us again the fre of His love.

Come, Holy Spirit, fll the hearts of Your faithful, and kindle in them the fre of Your love!

In Christ, our Lord, Fr. Anthony

Novena of Masses for Father’s Day 2025

Help Tose in Need Believe in the Mystery of God’s Love for Tem

Today as we celebrate Pentecost the Holy Spirit wants to make us advocates of God’s presence to bring new life to others, especially those who do not know the love of God in their lives. Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul Poor Box will help the poor to believe in the mystery of God’s love for them.

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516-746-8250. Tank you for your continued support.

THE SCHOOLS OF ST. MARY

Performing Arts Alive and Well at St. Mary’s

Many schools are facing program cuts that impact the arts, but at the Schools of Saint Mary, we continue to thrive. Last weekend, our Middle School and High School Performing Arts students collaborated to present the musical “Annie,” showcasing exceptional quality through four outstanding performances. Under the direction of Mr. Brian Stalter, the cast and crew delighted audience members of all ages with their incredible talent. With show-stopping music and scenes, we couldn’t be prouder of these students who share their God-given gifts with us.

Each school offers a Performing Arts Program that encompasses the entire learning experience, including set design, sound, acting, choreography, and dance. As students develop their talents, they have increasing opportunities to immerse themselves more deeply in the programs.

This summer, St. Mary’s is excited to offer a three-week intensive Theatre Camp open to all students rising to grades 5-9. Whether your child is a novice eager to explore their skills or a returning student looking to enhance their theatre knowledge and performance, our camp is the perfect opportunity for them. Adoration Prayer to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ

PRAYER: O loving Jesus Christ, Whose mercy is endless, we adore Your Agonizing Heart which bears great pains and sorrows for the salvation of man; gentle Lamb of God, Son of God and Son of the Virgin Mary, God and Man. You allowed Your Sacred Body to be tied and scourged at the pillar in order to free us from sin and bring salvation to mankind. We adore Your Most Precious Blood from the numerous wounds in Your sacred body. We pray for the conversion of unrepentant sinners in the whole world. May You allow a drop of Your Blood to fall on their hearts, so that through the intercession of the Cherubim and Seraphim and all angels of heaven, all men will turn to You. Amen.

Our Father*…Hail Mary*…Glory Be*…

(If possible, bow)

May the most Precious Blood that pours out from the Sacred Head of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Temple of Divine Wisdom, Tabernacle of Divine Knowledge, and Sunshine of heaven and earth, cover us now and forever. Amen.

R: Adoration and praise be Yours forever. Amen.
