ONE GOD, THREE PERSONS, PERFECT LOVE

Solemnity of the Holy Trinity

Today, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity - one of the most central and sacred Mysteries of our Catholic faith. Simply put, the Holy Trinity means that we, as Catholics, believe in one God who is a communion of three Persons united in perfect love: the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.

God revealed to us this Divine truth through Jesus Christ. In today’s Gospel Reading (John 16:12–15), Jesus speaks of the unity between Himself, the Father, and the Spirit: “Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason, I told you that He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is mine and declare it to you.” Tis means that the three Persons of the Trinity are always working together:

• Te Father: created the world and loves us as His sons and daughters.

• His Son, Jesus Christ: came into the world to save us by His life, death, and resurrection.

• Te Holy Spirit: lives in us, strengthens us, and guides the Church.

St. John of Damascus (AD c. 675 – c. 749) – a monk, a priest, a hymnographer, and an apologist – compares the Holy Trinity to “a river” to help us understand better the greatness and the profoundness of this Mystery:

• Te Source: the river originates from a source, which can be likened to the Father, the ultimate origin and beginning of all things.

• Te Flow: the water fows from the source, representing the Son, who is the Word of God, the expression of the Father’s love and wisdom.

• Te Life-Giving Power: the river’s fow brings life to all it touches, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, who empowers and sustains us all.

We refer to the Holy Trinity as a “Mystery,” a term derived from the ancient Greek word μυστήριον (“mustérion”). In this context, the term “Mystery” does not imply “a puzzle” to be solved but it signifes a hidden truth that God himself reveals to us, as we see in today’s Gospel Reading. And at the heart of this Mystery is Love: the Father loves the Son, the Son loves the Father, and the Holy Spirit is the Living Love who proceeds from both, uniting the three Persons in perfect communion. Tis Love is divine, therefore perfect, complete, and never-ending. And what is most amazing is that God invites us too into that love. Terefore, through Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we are all drawn into the life and love of the Holy Trinity.

On this Holy Trinity Sunday, let us give thanks for the great love God has shown us by revealing Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Tis love is a source of joy and fulfllment in our lives, a love that is always there, never failing, and always ready to embrace us. May we all grow in our relationship with each Person of the Holy Trinity and live in the unity and love that God Himself shares.

+ Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit! +

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Anthony

THE SCHOOLS OF

Eucharistic Pilgrimage Comes to Campus

Catholic Cheerful Academic mpus

On Thursday, June 5, 2025, the Schools of Saint Mary community joyfully welcomed the members of the Nassau County delegation of the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage to campus to participate in the continuation of grace-filled visits on Long Island that week, where the Holy Eucharist was the focal point of the journey. The pilgrims, who traveled from points east and west, north, and south, covering Long Island well across both counties on foot – even by boat were met with much support by our community with handmade posters, songs, and prayers. The significance of our participation in these processions and adoration demonstrated our passion for the Catholic faith leading up to the culmination of the Diocesan Eucharistic Congress on June 8, Pentecost Sunday. Saint Mary’s Elementary, Middle, and High Schools were blessed to be a part of this historical event. Walking with Jesus, proclaiming our love and devotion to Christ, who sustains us with the bread of life, was palpable.

Father Bob

Saint Mary’s Bids Farewell to Fr. Bob Romeo

Parishioners and members of the school community gathered this past weekend to participate in the bittersweet Farewell Weekend for Fr. Bob, who returned to celebrate Pentecost Sunday with us.

Installed as the twelfth pastor of St. Mary’s in 2015, Fr. Bob has been our tireless shepherd for the past decade. Throughout his tenure, he guided us through both good times and bad, helping us find hope during the grief and despair that weighed on our spirits during the pandemic. With challenges also came triumphs that showcased our resilience as the faithful community of St. Mary’s.

Under his leadership, we achieved significant milestones, including the reimagining of our campus, which opened the doors to our unique stand-alone St. Mary’s Middle School serving students in grades 6-8. Additionally, we revitalized our Social Ministry programming with the establishment of the Good Samaritan House, enhancing our outreach to underserved neighbors.

In 2023, Fr. Bob received a promotion to Ufficiale in the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus of The American Foundation of Savoy Orders. This was a proud and significant recognition of his unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church and his service around the globe, as well as an honor for his tireless efforts.

As a community, we are better people of God living our Catholic faith by following Fr. Bob’s example. May God bless him and guide him every step of the way on the next part of his journey. With our gratitude, prayers, and best wishes, we wish you many happy years ahead, Fr. Bob!

If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior through His Blessed Mother, and grow in holiness, consider joining us for a retreat in preparation for Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

St. Mary’s Good Samaritan House is considering conducting a consecration retreat for college students home for summer and for high school students. If you would be interested in joining us in this retreat, please reach out to Kathleen Kosciusko (kkosciusko@stmary.ws). If there are enough interested young adults, we will begin the retreat mid June. The schedule would be finalized once we have a listing of attendees.

Participants will use the book 33 Days to Morning Group Retreat and Study Guide, by Father Michael Gaitley, to guide us through the retreat. Participants commit to 10-15 minutes a day for spiritual readings and prayerful ponderings at home. Father Michael’s book, based on the writings of St. Louis de Montfort and updated to include the modern perspective of Saints John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and Maximillian Kolbe, offers readers a new dawn and a fresh start for one’s spiritual journey.

Our retreat will culminate on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. (If you will leave town prior to August 15, you have the option of consecrating on your own at your own school.) For those able to attend this Consecration Day Ceremony, we will make our consecration at St. Mary’s after the 9:00 AM Mass. Participants do not have to be present at the Ceremony to consecrate.
