Dear Parishioners,

“Let the one without sin cast the frst stone.” (John 8:7)

On this Fifth Sunday of Lent, Jesus directs our attention to two places in today’s Gospel. First, He addresses the accusers in their anger and desire for vengeance. In simple yet compassionate language, He asks that the one who thinks himself perfect and without any sin be the frst to carry out the prescribed punishment. Jesus doesn’t say that the sin is not wrong or against the law of God, but He challenges them to look at their own lives. In that introspection, Jesus wishes them to see in the failings of that woman, a refection of their own lives and to refect on the times they themselves have sinned. In seeing or remembering their personal sins, they are to realize that to sin is part of the human experience. And if common to each person, then the question becomes to a rational person...what is the response when we encounter another sinner?

Te second direction our minds must turn to is Jesus’ treatment of the woman caught in adultery. When all around her were quick to condemn and seek out a vengeance, this woman, scared and alone, now encounters probably what she never could have imagined...a voice of compassion. Jesus doesn’t minimize her sin, but rather ofers her a hope for a new life. Tat hope is based on a willingness to embrace a new life. In those words of Jesus, “neither do I condemn you, go and from now on do not sin anymore” must have been joy to her ears. It is a challenge to live a new life and to realize that the God we worship in Jesus is not one that wishes us to die in our sins, but rather to live in the freedom that Jesus came to ofer us. By the words of Jesus, she has been given a second chance to live faithfully in God.

So what does this mean for us? Very simply, be careful how we judge the sins and failings of others. Because if we look closely at our own lives, we realize that we too fall short of the expectations that God has for us. As much as God is merciful to us, so we must, in turn, share that compassion with the sinner in our midst.

We also learn that God wants very much to forgive our sins so that they do not weigh heavy upon our hearts. But for that to happen, we must be willing to acknowledge our sins and to hear the voice of Jesus as He forgives them. What better way than to take advantage of the Sacrament of Reconciliation? Do not be afraid...come to the Sacrament and hear and feel the healing that Jesus so much wants to ofer to you. Do not let pride or FEAR keep you from this wondrous Sacrament.

Please see the bulletin from the third week of Lent and the parish website for information and explanation for the covering of the statures and crucifxes in the church. Also see the information about the invitation to begin this practice at home.

A reminder that Stations of the Cross are prayed each Friday evening at 7:00 PM in the church. You are invited to walk with Jesus in this ancient prayer form.

DESPITE OUR BUSY DAY AND TIME, SAINTS JOHN PAUL II AND MOTHER TERESA KNEW THAT THE QUICKEST WAY TO BECOME A SAINT IS THROUGH A RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR BLESSED MOTHER, MARY. MARY LEADS US TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS.

If you are looking for a simple way to be spiritually renewed, develop a deeper relationship with Our Merciful Savior through His Blessed Mother, and grow in holiness, join us for a 33-day do-it-yourself retreat in preparation for Consecration to Jesus through Mary.

We will use the book 33 Days to Morning Group Retreat and Study Guide, by Father Michael Gaitley, to guide us through the retreat, which begins April 24 and continues for six weeks. Participants commit 10-15 minutes daily to spiritual readings and prayerful ponderings at home. Father Michael’s book, based on the writings of St. Louis de Montfort and updated to include the modern perspective of Saints John Paul II, Mother Teresa, and Maximillian Kolbe, offers readers a new dawn and a fresh start for one’s spiritual journey.

Our retreat will culminate on May 31, 2025, the Feast of the Visitation. For those able to attend this consecration day ceremony, we will make our consecration at St. Mary’s after 9:00 AM Mass. Participants may also be consecrated privately at home or at any Church. (We also invite those who have already completed the Consecration to Jesus through Mary retreat to join us for any or all of our programs and to participate in our May 31 consecration ceremony.)

What is a Knights of Columbus Family?

We are Catholic families building a bridge to our faith.

Our lives, time, eforts, and resources are dedicated to these values: Charity. Unity. Fraternity. Patriotism. We come from diferent places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world. It’s one thing to say who you are. It’s another thing is to live it. Put your values into practice. Become a Knights of Columbus family.
