Dear Members,

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
James (Jim) McClymont
As we come to the close of 2024, I’m sure many of you, like myself, are wondering where the time has gone. It’s been a whirlwind year, both professionally and personally, and like our team here at Ryde Eastwood Leagues, you may feel like you’ve been juggling many priorities. Despite the pace, we are proud of the progress we’ve made together as a club, and we remain focused on both the day-to-day strategic management and the exciting opportunities that lie ahead for our future.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve refined our vision and sharpened our focus on ensuring the club’s future for the benefit of our members and the community. For over 60 years, Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club has been a vital part of the West Ryde area, and we are committed to continuing that legacy. As we look ahead, our aim is to grow and diversify, ensuring that we remain a key player in the development of the West Ryde/Meadowbank precinct. Our members, along with the wider community, rely on us as a trusted destination for safe and affordable recreational activities, and we are working closely with Local Council, State Government, and community organisations to strengthen those ties.
Your feedback has been instrumental as we embark on this journey of transformation together. Both as we move forward with our Seniors Living planning to commence building in 2025 and our Master Plan vision moving to the Planning Proposal latter in 2024. We understand that members want to see tangible outcomes, not just plans, and we are committed to
delivering just that. With over 650,000 annual visits to Ryde Eastwood Leagues and Club Thirroul, we have a solid platform to build on for future growth and development.
As a Board, we recognise that some of the decisions we make today may not bear fruit immediately, but we are guided by the same long-term vision that our predecessors had when they first established this club more than 60 years ago. Their foresight has given us the thriving institution we enjoy today, and we are committed to growing and enhancing that legacy for future generations. Every time you visit the club, whether for entertainment, leisure, health and wellbeing services, dining, or social activities, you are supporting a vibrant and diverse community hub that benefits all our members.
This is your club, and we are honoured to have your ongoing support. Our vision ‘To be a place at the heart of the community for everyone to everyone to enjoy’ remains true and it’s thanks to you that we continue to grow and provide value in so many ways.
Thank you once again for your loyalty throughout the year. If I don’t see you around the club before then, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Safe New Year.
James (Jim) McClymont PRESIDENT
CEO’S REPORT

Dear Members
I would like to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to all of our members—both those who have been with us for many years and the many new faces who have recently joined us to enjoy the wonderful activities our club offers. It’s been particularly inspiring to see the growing engagement from local community groups that share our values and commitment to serving the wider community.
As we recently finalised the 2023/2024 financial year, we are proud to reflect on a period of great achievement and success. With a continued focus on expanding our offerings and maintaining steady growth, we’ve seen fantastic results that we’re excited to share with you.
Our final profit for the year reached a welcoming $4,058,719, a strong increase from last year’s $3,159,073. This growth was mirrored across all our core operations, and we were thrilled to welcome nearly 5000 new members, bringing our total membership to a vibrant 40,026. To keep up with the changing needs of our members and the broader community, we have implemented strategic measures aimed at enhancing and diversifying our services.
Throughout the year, we’ve continued to make significant improvements to ensure our club remains a welcoming and modern space. This includes updates to our food and beverage offerings, the introduction of new furniture and fittings in our lounge areas and upgrades to our functions and events spaces. Most notably, we’ve refreshed our main gaming floor and lounge, with plans for even more enhancements in the coming year.
Looking to the future, we’ve made exciting progress on key projects, including our Seniors Living development, which is set to begin development in 2025. Additionally, our master plan for the club’s longterm vision will move forward with a Planning Proposal in 2024, ensuring Ryde Eastwood Leagues continues
to make a meaningful impact on West Ryde and the wider community by delivering services and facilities that meet the need of the members and community.
Community support remains at the heart of what we do. This year, we proudly contributed $709,490 in donations and in-kind support through ClubGrants, with over $600,000 in cash donations going directly to charities and organisations that benefit our local community, including many of our own members.
As we approach the festive season and the exciting start to 2025, we have a range of fun and engaging events lined up for you! December will be packed with Christmas draws offering over 800 prizes, from hams to kids’ draws and more. Our Australia Day and Chinese New Year Members’ Cash Draws, along with fun holiday activities for the kids, are just a few highlights. Don’t forget to check out our Christmas Day Banquet and the new menu at Crystal Jade— perfect for celebrating with family and friends.
Lastly, I want to express my thanks to our Board for their unwavering support and vision. Their belief and trust in the staff and management has been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals. A special thank you to our leadership team whose dedication ensures that we have a strong, focused team to deliver the best experience and memory to you, our valued members. And, of course, a big thanks to all our staff, who work tirelessly and are the key to create a fantastic environment and exceptional service for everyone to enjoy.
I wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a safe, joyous New Year as we welcome 2025 with open arms!

COMMUNITY Update
It has been a busy and rewarding time for Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club as we continued our involvement with key community initiatives throughout 2024. Below are some of the fantastic organisations we’ve had the privilege of working with during this period.
LOCAL BUSINESS AWARDS SUCCESS

Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club is proud to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Local Business Award (Northern Districts) for Most Outstanding Hotel/Bottle Shop/Bar. This recognition is a tremendous honour for our Club and a reflection of the ongoing commitment we have to excellence.
We are deeply proud of our hardworking team, whose dedication to supporting our local community has been instrumental in achieving this accolade. Bringing people together has always been at the core of what we do, and it is gratifying to have these efforts acknowledged at such a distinguished level.
Additionally, we are delighted to share that our CEO, Carl Pozzato, was named Business Person of the Year. This well-deserved recognition highlights Carl’s exemplary leadership and his forward-thinking vision in guiding the Club into the future.
This award is a testament to the passion, hard work, and dedication of the entire Ryde Eastwood Leagues family, and we look forward to many more years of fostering a strong and connected community.

R U OK? DAY

GRANNY SMITH
FESTIVAL

On R U OK? Day, the dedicated staff and members of Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club came together, dressed in yellow, to raise awareness for this vital cause. The day was a powerful reminder of the impact that a simple conversation can have in supporting those facing difficult times.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated in and supported this initiative, showing once again the strength of our club’s spirit. Your contributions and involvement helped to spread an important message that checking in with friends, family, and colleagues is a small step that can have a lasting, positive impact.
On Saturday, 19 October, Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club was thrilled to join the vibrant community celebration at Granny Smith Day. As proud sponsors, Ryde Eastwood Leagues was right in the heart of the festivities, with a vibrant stall where locals had the chance to learn more about our club, enjoy engaging activities, and take advantage of an exclusive Free Membership Day!
It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with local residents and showcase the amazing benefits of being part of our club. Thanks to everyone who visited us—it was a day filled with fun, local pride, and celebration of this beloved event!

PINK WEEK
ESCABAGS
Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club is a proud corporate sponsor of Escabags, an incredible Australian charity that provides free “Escape Bags” to those fleeing domestic and family violence.
As part of our commitment, we are stockists of these essential bags at both Ryde Eastwood Leagues and Club Thirroul, offering immediate support to those in need. The Escape Bags are filled with necessities to help individuals in crisis, ensuring they have access to critical resources in difficult times.
Pink Week at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club was a heartfelt initiative in support of the McGrath Foundation, dedicated to raising awareness and funds for breast cancer care. Throughout the week, the club hosted numerous fundraising events, and staff and members proudly wore pink to show solidarity.
With the proceeds going directly to the McGrath Foundation, the week was filled with community spirit and generosity. We thank everyone who participated and helped make a meaningful contribution toward supporting breast cancer patients and their families. Together, we made a difference!

FOOTBALL Report
Another season has come and gone, and what a fantastic one it has been for our Club! This year, we had five teams out on the field –two Under 18s, our A Grade (Open Men’s), and our two major competition teams, the Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup. And here’s the exciting part: four of those teams made it into the finals! While we didn’t manage to bring home the big trophy, we certainly didn’t walk away with the wooden spoon either – a pretty good result, I’d say!
In all seriousness, it’s been a brilliant year for the Club. The effort, grit, and determination shown by everyone involved has made us incredibly proud.
Our season wrapped up in style with the gala presentation at Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, where some of our standout players were recognised for their efforts. Congratulations to:

U18s White Player of the Year
Dougie Tuala
A Grade Player of the Year
Brad Kelly
Sydney Shield Player of the Year and Players’ Player: Nev Verevakabau
Ron Massey Cup Player of the Year
AJ Raheb
2024 Club Person of the Year
Graham Condon
A huge congratulations to all our award winners, and a heartfelt thank you to every player who proudly donned our jersey this year. We’re equally grateful to the staff who made the 2024 season one to remember.
A special shout-out to Ron Massey’s coach for the past four seasons, Jarred Farlow. Jarred has taken up an exciting coaching position with the Wests Tigers, and we couldn’t be more appreciative of the time and dedication he’s poured into our Club. We wish him all the best in his new role.
On that note, we’re thrilled to announce that former NRL player David Gower will be stepping into the role of Ron Massey Cup head coach for 2025. David brings a wealth of experience, having been both a player and a member of Jarred’s coaching staff, and we’re excited to see what he’ll bring to the team next year.

A big thank you also goes out to our sponsors, especially our Major Sponsor, Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club. Your unwavering support keeps us ticking along smoothly, and we are truly grateful.
Finally, I’d like to wish all our Football Club members, players, and Committee a very Merry Christmas. To our players – you are the heartbeat of this Club. Your passion and dedication are the reason we are where we are today, and we couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to another great season ahead!

Ryde Eastwood
UPDATE ON OUR MASTER PLAN
We’re excited to share updates on our master plan, which will shape the future of our club and community. This vision reflects our commitment to continuous improvement, and we appreciate your support.
Over the past few months, we’ve gathered your thoughts and feedback through our online survey and focus group sessions. Thank you for your input!
WHAT WE’VE HEARD:
We wanted to share with you some insights from these activities
Our expansion should be deeply rooted in our Club’s values, ensuring we maintain the warm, familyoriented atmosphere that defines us.

The club’s renewal should focus on welcoming and intimate spaces where friends and family can gather and socialise.
Connecting our Club to streetscape, especially Ryedale Road. This includes large windows, landscaping outdoor seating and pedestrianising access to ANZAC park.
As the Council sets its sights on transforming Ryedale Road, our Club is poised to lead the renewal and set a new standard.
Our growth should cater to all ages and backgrounds. This includes toddlers, young adults, seniors, and our diverse multicultural communities.
NEXT STEPS:
Support for our plans to provide homes for people to rent, and Hotel accommodation.

Our plans will be lodged with the City of Ryde in November 2024. We expect the planning and assessment process will take approximately two years. Construction will take several years, and we will be operational for the whole time.
We’re thrilled about enhancing our Club and role in the community. Through this, we can create a more vibrant, inclusive, and viable future for the West Ryde area. Thank you for your continued support and engagement, and stay tuned for more updates

Explanatory notes regarding the First, Second and Third Ordinary Resolutions
1. These notes are to be read in conjunction with the proposed Ordinary Resolutions. The First, Second and Third Ordinary Resolutions are put to members for the purposes of section 10(6) and 10(6A) of the Registered Cubs Act 1976 (NSW) (Registered Clubs Act) which require members in General Meeting to approve certain benefits granted to specific members or classes of members not provided to other members of the Club.
2. The First Ordinary Resolution is to approve honoraria to be paid to Directors of the Club until the next Annual General Meeting.
3. The Second Ordinary Resolution is to approve benefits which have traditionally been provided in the Club but which are not equally available to all members.
4. The Third Ordinary Resolution is to approve an amount no greater than $140,000 for the expenditure by the Club in relation to duties performed in or about the Club by directors and expenditure for directors to attend seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events including the Clubs NSW Annual General Meeting and to visit other clubs to enable the Club’s governing body to be kept abreast of current trends and developments which may have a significant bearing on the nature and way in which the Club conducts its business. This resolution also includes an option for directors to participate in organised intrastate, interstate or overseas trips to view and assess facilities. This option has been included in our Annual General Meeting Agenda for the last twenty years and has been used only twice. However prior approval is required by members to ensure the club complies with relevant legislation. Part (i) of the resolution to include reasonable expenses of partners of directors is to allow the availability of directors to attend meetings that are expected or required for their development and knowledge and are often held in distant locations.
NOTICE OF SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS
Notice is hereby given that at the Annual General Meeting of the Club, members will be asked to consider and, if thought fit, pass the following resolutions which are proposed as Special Resolutions:
1. FIRST SPECIAL RESOLUTION
That the Constitution of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited (Club) be amended by:
• Deleting rule 28(a) and inserting instead the following new rule 28(a): "(a) Any visitor whose permanent place of residence is in New South Wales. Subject to any minimum distance as may be prescribed from time to time by the Registered Clubs Act, the Board by By-Law may from time to time determine a minimum
distance of residence from the Club's premises for a person to qualify for Temporary membership under this Rule."
Explanatory notes regarding the First Special Resolution
1. The New South Wales Government has announced that the deemed rule contained in section 30(3B) of the Registered Clubs Act (and which applies to all registered clubs) that persons are only eligible to attend as temporary members of a registered club if they reside a minimum 5 kilometres from the premises of the registered club they are attending will be abolished in October 2024.
2. Existing rule 28(a) of the Constitution is consistent with the current provisions of section 30(3B) of the Registered Clubs Act and requires temporary members to live outside a radius of 5 kilometre from the Club's premises.
3. Proposed replacement rule 28(a) of the Constitution will allow the Club to admit persons as temporary members who live within a 5 kilometre radius, but only if the Registered Clubs Act is amended as announced by the New South Wales Government. If the changes to the Registered Clubs Act are not enacted, then the new rule will still require temporary members to reside a minimum distance as prescribed by the Registered Clubs Act (presently 5 kilometres radius).
2.
SECOND SPECIAL RESOLUTION
That the Constitution of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited be amended by:
• Adding the following new rule 45A immediately after rule 45:
"ADDITIONAL DISCIPLINARY POWERS OF SECRETARY
45A (a) If, in the opinion of the Secretary (or his or her delegate), a member has engaged in conduct that is unbecoming of a member or prejudicial to the interests of the Club, then the Secretary (or his or her delegate) may suspend the member from some or all rights and privileges as a member of the Club for a period of up to twelve (12) months
(b) In respect of any suspension pursuant to 45A(a), the requirements of Rule 45(a) shall not apply If the Secretary (or his or her delegate) exercises the power pursuant to Rule 45A(a), the Secretary (or his or her delegate) must notify the member (by notice in writing) that:
(i) the member has been suspended as a member of the Club; and
(ii) the period of suspension;
(iii) the privileges of membership which have been suspended; and
(iv) if the member wishes to do so, the member may request by notice in writing sent to the Secretary) the matter be dealt with by the Board pursuant to Rules 45(a)
(c) If a member submits a request under Rule 45A(b):
(i) the member shall remain suspended until such time as the charge is heard and determined by the Board; and
(ii) the Club must commence disciplinary proceedings against the member in accordance with the requirements of Rule 45(a);
(iii) the determination of the Board in respect of those disciplinary proceedings shall be in substitution for and to the exclusion of any suspension imposed by the Secretary (or his or her delegate)
(d) This Rule 45A applies to Full members only and it does not limit or restrict the Club from exercising the powers contained in Rule 45(c) of this Constitution and the powers contained in section 77 of the Liquor Act
Explanatory notes regarding the Second Special Resolution
1. The Second Special Resolution proposes the introduction of new rule 45A to the Club's Constitution. The proposed new rule will allow the Secretary/CEO of the Club or their delegate to suspend a member for up to 12 months if the member engages in conduct unbecoming of a member or conduct which is prejudicial to the interests of the Club. However, if the member wishes to challenge such a decision by the Secretary or their delegate, the member can request that the matter be referred to the Club's Board of Directors or Disciplinary Committee for review, in which
case a notice of disciplinary charge will be issued to the member for hearing and determination by the Board or Disciplinary Committee.
2. Under the proposed new rule, the Secretary or their delegate cannot expel a member.
3. The amendment is proposed so that less serious disciplinary matters can be dealt with more expeditiously and not take up Board or Disciplinary Committee time. The period of suspension that can be imposed by the Secretary is limited to up to 12 months and members can still have the matter referred to the Board/Committee.
GENERAL NOTES REGARDING THE ORDINARY RESOLUTIONS AND SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS
1. Pursuant to rules 24 and 98 of the Club’s Constitution, only Life Members, financial Foundation Life Members and financial Club Members who have at least 5 years standing as Full Members may vote on the Ordinary Resolutions and Special Resolutions.
2. To be passed, the Ordinary Resolutions must receive votes in their favour from not less than a simple majority of those members who, being entitled to do so, vote in person at the meeting.
3. Pursuant to sections 9 and 136 of the Corporations Act and rule 98 of the Club’s Constitution, to be passed the Special Resolutions must receive votes in their favour from not less than three quarters of those members, who being entitled to do so, vote in person at the meeting.
4. As a result of the special resolution provisions of the Corporations Act, the Special Resolutions must be considered as a whole and cannot be altered in substance by motions from the floor of the meeting.
5. Members who are employees of the Club are not entitled to vote.
6. Proxy voting is prohibited by the Registered Clubs Act.

SENIORS CLUB
As we approach the final months of 2024, it’s wonderful to see the Ryde Eastwood Leagues Seniors Club continue to grow, with many new members joining. Supported by Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, the Seniors Club enjoys regular meetings and activities. The REL Seniors Social/Morning Tea takes place on the first Thursday of every month from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, providing a welcoming space for seniors to connect. The REL Seniors General Meeting is held on the third Thursday of each month, both meetings taking place in an upstairs function room where morning tea is provided. Doors open at 10:30 AM, and the meetings run from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
In August, September, and October 2024, our members enjoyed various walks, lunches, and exciting bus trips, including visits to the Bargo Dingo Sanctuary, a two-day trip to Canberra, and a day trip to Lucas Heights. As the year winds down, we still have some activities to look forward to, including a trip to the Baha’i Temple in November, with lunch at Palm Beach RSL, and our Christmas Lunch on 5th December, followed by our last morning tea for the year.
monthly Fishing Club meeting held on the third Thursday of every month (except December) at 8:00 PM. The fishing spots are located approximately 5 km east of North Head at depths of 40-80 meters, with common catches including morwongs, flathead, snapper, sweep, and pigfish.
Recent trips have seen great results: June: 13 members caught 85 fish, weighing a total of 34 kg.

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s exciting to see our photography competitions heating up. Supported by Ryde Eastwood Leagues Club, the REL Camera Club hosts regular meetings and activities. November’s competition will be an open category, and members should prepare entries for our end-of-year contests, including the Club Outing Competition, Print End of Year Competition, Digital End of Year Competition, and Football Digital Image Competition.
Our Christmas Dinner and Award Presentations will take place on 9th December 2024—a perfect chance to catch up with fellow members and view the year’s best photographs. Regular meetings are held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7:30 PM, combining competition nights, presentations, and informal discussions. We also organise three club outings each year, giving members opportunities to explore new locations and techniques.
In February 2025, our first event will be the Annual General Meeting on 10th February, where we’ll outline plans for the year ahead. We are always eager to welcome new members, so if you’re passionate about photography, join us to improve your skills and make new friends.
