THE HISTORY OF

RETIREMENT UNLIMITED, INC. (RUI) WAS FOUNDED, IN 1982 by two spirited entrepreneurs, Horace Fralin and Elbert Waldron. The close friends started out in construction, building single-family homes, when they saw a growing need for senior housing. They loved their families and saw a unique opportunity through their craft, to help provide the very best options for them as they aged. In the 1970s, Mr. Fralin and Mr. Waldron began to develop and run nursing homes. As their knowledge and love of taking care of seniors grew, developing assisted living communities also became a natural fit. RUI continues to be a family run business, deeply rooted in the values and traditions set forth by Mr. Fralin and Mr. Waldron’s dreams of providing the best for our loved ones.

DEAR TEAM,

On behalf of Retirement Unlimited, Inc. (RUI), we are proud to share the first edition of RUInsights, a company-wide team member newsletter. This quarterly publication will keep you up-to-date on the tools, resources, and opportunities available to you as an RUI team member. It will also highlight some of the amazing work that each of our communities are doing with our residents, families, and teams. As part of the RUI family, we encourage you to stay in touch with our communities by following all our social media pages and liking and sharing our posts. By doing this we not only increase the reach of RUI, but we are also able to derive ideas from and celebrate the successes of our sister communities. I would

like to personally thank each one of you for the hard work and dedication that you provide to our company and our residents each and every day. I, along with the entire RUI leadership team, am excited to embark on this next step in our journey with each and every one of you on our team. WHAT IS NALW?

National Assisted Living Week® provides a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to offer a variety of events and activities to celebrate the individuals they serve, as well as to help educate members of the public about this distinctive aspect of long term care.

RESIDENT PHOTOSHOOT:

Smiles all around at Ashleigh at Lansdowne’s fall photo shoot for National Assisted Living Week! Residents and their loved ones enjoyed a beautiful day capturing special memories!

TASTE DOWN MEMORY LANE:

Heatherwood took a delicious trip down memory lane with a tasting of iconic foods from the 1920s to the 1970s, courtesy of Taste of RUI! They celebrated with photos of their residents from these decades and grooved to retro tunes. It was a nostalgic feast for the senses.

INSPIRITÁSFAMILY PHOTOSHOOT:

The Barrington at Hioaks hosted a heartwarming family photoshoot for residents, team members, and their families to create lasting memories together. A picture is truly worth a thousand words as the feeling captured in the photo lives on for many generations to come.

PETTING ZOO:

Generations came together for a heartwarming National Grandparents Day brunch filled with laughter, delicious food, and cherished memories for National Assisted Living Week!

RUI FIT – GENERATIONS OF DANCE:

Lots of lively moving, twisting, and energy dancing through the decades! Great workout for older adults to improve their lower body muscle endurance, balance, agility, and gait.

APPRECIATION:

Dresher Estates celebrated their team with an afternoon of fun and relaxation! Each team member received a goodie bag of treats and a travel mug to decorate with their favorite positive quotes.

APPRECIATION: Residents explored vintage beauty items, including classic perfumes, hair brushes, and styling products, representing the 1930s to the 2020s to.

PETTING ZOO:

The Hidenwood hosted the Teeny Tiny Farm Petting Zoo to kick off NALW! Their residents, team, and family members had so much fun attending the petting zoo.

PETTING ZOO:

Inspiritás-Memory Care residents celebrated National Grandparent's Day with a petting zoo from Flat Creek Farms. They brought all of their precious animals to celebrate with the community, including their alpaca, George! The residents and their families loved seeing these farm friends!

INSPIRITÁSFRAME DECORATING: Inspiritás residents and their families got creative decorating picture frames with photos they captured together.

TEAM APPRECIATION:

Woodland Hills leadership “donut" know what they’d do without their incredibly team. They had a blast celebrating together and enjoying some sweet treats!

VIRGINIA TECH SUSTAINABILITY INTERNS:

In this program, Dr. Russell from Virginia Tech brings selected students on-site to several RUI communities to complete an energy and waste audit, report findings, and suggest actions for improvement to increase RUI's sustainability efforts. In its fourth year of the program, students are attending Woodland Hills, Heatherwood, and The Wellington at Lake Manassas to complete their on-site audits. This initiative has proven to be a beneficial experience for both RUI and the Virginia Tech students involved presenting an incredible opportunity for students to get real life experience in their field of study and further the education on sustainability beyond the classroom.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR IN TRAINING:

Join us in congratulating Catie Abbott on her new venture as Administrator in Training at Bay Lake. Catie has been at Bay Lake since 2008 and currently serves as a Senior Life Enrichment Director. We look forward to seeing Catie's growth in her new role!

All Community RUI Team Members are eligible to enjoy one meal per shift prepared by our Taste of RUI Culinary team. Select your meals from our Always Available Menu, providing a consistent range of options to meet various preferences and dietary needs.

As a team member of RUI, you have the unique opportunity to work within the Care Impact department, on a full-time, part-time, or PRN basis as a companion (no nursing certification required) or as a caregiver (caregiver training required). Please contact your Community Executive Director, Director of Clinical Services, or Human Resources Manager if you would like to pick up extra hours in this department or express your desire to do this on a full time basis, should there be a need.
