But, how do you know if something is wrong? NAPIT, a Government approved Competent Person Scheme operator for installers across the building services sector, chaired a sub group of the Electrical Safety Roundtable to produce a set of Home Safety Guidance Documents to help you ensure all the appropriate checks have been made. “We were keen to help create these documents to give householders useful reference tools for checking their home and to encourage the use of competent, registered installers for any work carried out,” said Charlotte Lee, NAPIT’s Public Affairs Manager. “This ensures it will be safe, installed correctly and meets the legally required standards.”

by Phil Bevington, store manager at Pets at Home Rugby With the Easter holidays now over, the back to school blues will be kicking in for many. However, it won’t just be the children who won’t be happy that Easter is over. It may sound silly, but your pet dog and cat can suffer from the back to school blues too! They’ve been surrounded by the family for a couple of weeks, so they will have gotten used to all the hustle and bustle children can bring, and of course having lots of fun, games and attention. But all of a sudden they’re back to being on their own during the day, with less company and less fun. However, just follow our few simple tips to ensure your four-legged friend doesn’t feel neglected. 1. Prepare your pet for solitary time before school starts by leaving them on their own in the house for an hour or two at a time. 2. Keep all arrivals and departures low-key, with no big fuss. For example, when you arrive home, ignore your pet for the first few minutes, then calmly stroke them. This may be hard for you to do, but it’s important! 3. Lessen the feeling of loss by leaving behind an item of clothing, as having your scent around will help your pet relax. 4. Leave the TV or radio on to reassure the pet that someone is at home. 5. Where possible, try to play with your cat or

walk your dog before you leave so they will be more inclined to sleep while you are away. 6. Make sure they’re back to their normal dietary routine. If you’ve over-treated during Easter, now is the time to stop! 7. However, for pets which are struggling to adapt back into a term-time routine, giving one healthy treat as you leave the house can help to keep them occupied while on their own. 8. Don’t punish bad behaviour such as chewing the furniture; make sure they have enough toys around to keep them entertained. Like humans, most pets should get back into their normal routine after a couple of days. If not, come and visit us in-store for a friendly chat. If your dog or cat has an ongoing behavioural problem please seek advice from your vet or a specialist behaviourist.

International Recognition for Local Photographer Local Photographer Ani Evans has gained international recognition by winning a significant award with the Guild of Photographers. The Guild of Photographers is the highly regarded national photographic body whose members are dedicated to enhancing their skills in the art, craft and profession of photography. It runs an image of the month competition, and received around 10,000 entries during 2015. Each image is scored, and the scores from the year are then totalled to determine who wins one of the Guild’s Top 10 Photographer awards. This is clearly a very demanding year long process! Ani Evans was honoured to become a Top 10 Photographer of the Year in the Wedding genre for a second consecutive year (5th in 2014 and 4th in 2015) - a remarkable achievement when one considers the number and standard of the entries.

Ani’s Award was presented to her at the Guild’s Awards night at Crew Hall on 6th February 2016. Lesley Thirsk (Director of the Guild) said that she is “both proud and delighted that Ani Evans has achieved this recognition after 12 months of submitting the highest quality images. The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds, so Ani Evans quite rightly should be delighted with their extraordinary achievement”. Members of the Guild are committed to achieving the highest standards of professionalism and to a journey of continuing professional development. www.photoguild.co.uk www.anievansphotography.co.uk

The essence of your pictures is Bernd’s passion!

Bernd Moore is an experienced and professional photographer based in Rugby, with a relaxed friendly approach specialising in stylish modern professional photography at popular Rugby locations and venues. For Bernd, capturing the essence of a picture is his passion. He always works with his clients to capture the image that they want, but will also be looking for those pictures that capture the shoot and give the memories that last. With weddings, Bernd has always felt this to be a complete day and that is why he offers to photograph the complete day from getting ready to the first dance. This allows him to capture all key events during the day from exchanging the rings to the speeches, the formal group shots to the informal shots of the Bride and Groom as well as their family and friends. His favourite

20

moment of any wedding is when the music starts, the doors open and the bride is just about to start walking down the isle. Bernd’s fascination with photography had early roots and after being asked to shoot a friends wedding he decided to enrol in the full wedding photography course with the Trained Eye where under the expert tuition of top Wedding Photographers Mike Gerrard and David Morgan he learned how to shoot Weddings from start to finish. His work has now featured in wedding magazines including Your Surrey Weddings, Starting Together and Stratford Living magazines. Bernd has experience in photographing all types of weddings including church, registry office, hindu, chinese, buddhist and asian weddings. Along with continually critiquing his own work, Bernd is also using the guidance of renowned portrait photographers Mark Cleghorn and Kenny Martin to learn and develop different techniques to add to his reportiore of styles. Moore Weddings and Portraits offer complete “all inclusive” packages, as well as a range of quality prints and products available for individual purchase.

APRIL WALKS Sunday 3rd 09.00 Lowsonford (A.Gormley statue)

The last few months of walking with the Ramblers could be viewed with a certain amount of déjà-vu after such an extended period of wet weather. A recent walk lead by Lorna and Chris offered a break from the winter blues; with bright skies and even the occasional glimpse of the sun presenting a fine day for walking. Commencing at the surgery car park in Brinklow, the walk followed an established path skirting the works at Ansty before heading off through the grounds of Coombe Abbey where a mid morning coffee break was enjoyed at the Visitors’ Centre. Continuing along the trackway directly opposite the country park, the group continued through the wood to the outskirts of Brandon before emerging by the stadium. Moving on through the edge of the village to the inter-connecting road to Wolston; lunch was taken in the garden of the Rose & Crown pub, a most welcoming establishment. Leaving the village past the priory, the swollen Avon bore testament to the previous week’s heavy rainfall with standing water evident in the surrounding fields. While pausing to observe the area affected by the flooding, the party was fortunate to enjoy the sight of a complete rainbow on the distant horizon. After proceeding along the Fosse Way a detour was taken to avoid the saturated fields on the direct pathway ahead. Taking the alternative lane route toward King’s Newnham, a few moments were taken to view the free standing church tower and the area of the long since demolished (middle

of the 18th century) church. From this point the path was taken on a north east heading over rain sodden fields in a relatively direct line back to the outskirts of Brinklow. Here the prominent motteand-bailey castle crowning the hill, just south east of the village, confirmed the conclusion to this interesting and lovely countryside walk. February also saw the first foray of the year into the Cotswolds with the promise of a varied walk with wonderful views, no stiles and no ploughed fields. With the natural charm of the Cotswolds, yet another memorable day’s walking with the Ramblers lay ahead.
