A conversation with Founder’s, Dan & Raj Chugani Q: Where did you start and where does the name Kay’s name come from?

A: We are a family owned and operated business in the Caribbean for 30+ Years. We founded the business in 1989 on St.Maarten. When deciding upon a name, we wanted to incorporate the blessings of our parents. Kay was short form for our Dad’s name and our Mom’s name started with S, hence Kay’s. We truly believe their blessings are with us as we have grown to 6 Islands, 9 retail stores, along with our production factories and wholesale division.

Today we are blessed to have a successful business with our many loyal clients and have a legacy that will be continued by our children. Number 2 is to ensure that we make our communities better. We hope to inspire by giving back and to create a lasting legacy and a better community and world for the many generations after us.

Q: When you chose to expand, Why Grand Cayman Islands?

A: We believe in a saying that we repeat to each other often, Expansion with Integrity! When we choose to expand, we ensure that first and foremost, that we have the right team in place to pass on our mission statement of “Luxury with a Family Touch”. We also ensure that our production factory and family design team can handle the correct sourcing for another family store. Our quality of product and commitment to customer care can never be compromised.

Q: In your 30 years of business, can you share with us one special experience with a client that you recall?

A: I remember this one like it was yesterday (though it was almost 25 years ago). A client was referred to us from another client from the state of Wisconsin. As he introduced himself and his wife, he handed us his Credit Card and walked away. We recall asking him “where are you going, we have your credit card?” His reply was “whatever she wants and I know you brothers will take care of the price. You came highly recommended based off trust and family values and I know you won’t guide us wrong.” Up to today, we repeat this story in our sales meetings and evaluation. It made realize that in this business all we have is trust and our family values.

There you can rent kayaks, paddleboards or wave runners to use in beautiful Simpson Bay. Watersports hours are from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Before using any of the watersports a safety briefing is provided. Usage of all watersports is at your own risk. For your own safety, kayak and paddleboard usage is not permitted beyond the reefs. You must be over 18 to drive a wave runner and the area where one can take the wave runner is limited to the bay.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. A credit card deposit is required upon booking.

SCUBA DIVING COURSES This service takes place by Aqua mania Adventures right off the beach and offer guests the chance to experience diving for the first time.

Let me tell you a story that’s like mixing Indian spices in the Caribbean sun – a bit of a geographical mishmash! Picture this: a dude, born and bred in India, lands smack dab in sunny Sint Maarten. How’d I get there? Long story short, what was meant to be a chill vacation turned into my crash course on island life.

So, here I was, 17, basking in the Caribbean rays, and guess what?

I fell head over heels for all things Dutch! Totally unexpected, right? Now, helping my uncle, who was already a big shot with a bunch of jewelry stores on the island, was where my journey began.

I got sucked into the world of glitz and glam—sparkling rocks, shiny watches—the whole nine yards!

And then a light bulb moment struck! A tiny spot at Princess Juliana International Airport screamed, “Hey, set up shop here!” That’s when I decided to take a leap, backed by my dad’s wisdom and expertise.

Speaking of dad, he used to call his mom “ama.” Now, wanting her blessings for this adventure was a nobrainer. It felt right to honor my grandma, so guess what the store’s called? You got it! On a shiny September 1st in 1986, AMA was born, and boy, did we hit the ground running!

Dad’s business mojo and values were the wind beneath our wings. AMA soared, spreading its sparkle to more spots around the island. But, life’s a rollercoaster, right? 1993 hit hard when we lost my dad. It was gutwrenching, but I vowed to keep his legacy alive – honest dealings and genuine values.

Turns out, those values became the secret sauce! Our customers became more like pals, coming back for more bling and watches, some even after 30 years! Can you believe it?
