October is Economic and Community Development month

Rotary supports investment in people by improving their incomes and creating sustainable and long-term economic development in the community.

Rotary's contribution begins in the community, and each community has unique needs and concerns. While we serve in a variety of ways, we focus on Seven Key Areas to maximize our impact. These areas encompass some of the world's most critical and widespread humanitarian needs. Rotarians planning new service projects are encouraged to consider these areas and the many opportunities for innovative projects within them. Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation have adopted Seven Key Areas as priorities in their organizational action:

• Peace and conflict prevention/resolution

• Disease prevention and treatment

• Water and sewerage

• Mother and child health

• Basic education and literacy

• ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

• Environmental support

Economic and Community Development is a key area that Rotary has suggested all clubs focus on, especially during the month of October. Today, close to 1.4 billion people – nearly half of them employed – live on less than $1.25 a day.

What projects and activities will your Rotary club develop during the month of October? There are countless ways Rotary clubs can address these issues both locally and internationally. You can find some of these ideas below:
