We are gathered today to fulfill our collective promise to Never Forget, to take part in active remembrance, and recognize how we are all connected to one another underneath the same big sky.

Two decades have passed from September 11th, 2001, a new generation has been born and grown up, 9/11 is no longer just an experience lived, but history learned. Many things have happened, both in our personal lives and in the world around us, and yet at the same time, 9/11 still feels like yesterday. We only have to mention the date, and people instantly flash back to that date in 2001, 21 years ago. History will always be divided into the world before 9/11 and after it.

New York City is almost 7,400 Km far away from Peja, but on that particular day, September 11th, 2001, it felt closer, because tragedy unites people. Today an authentic steel beam from the Twin Towers is in Peja, in this memorial and it will always stay here, to remember the tragic loss of innocent lives and to remind us of the connection between our two nations.
