Tarang Towards a better future Edition - 3

Dear Readers, It gives us immense pleasure to put forward to you, the September issue of ‘Tarang’.

We know it is a bit weird to get the September issue in the month of November. We are late by a month and we sincerely apologize for that. We have taken efforts to regularise our monthly magazine and hope it will be back on track from the next month.

In the current issue, we have covered all the events organized by our club in the month of September, which includes letterhead exchanges with different clubs across the globe. Events like these build up a strong bond between the clubs functioning in different geographies. This month had many wonderful and impactful projects from all avenues. We encourage all our members to take part in our events and projects!

As you know, we have introduced a new feature called "RCB's Got Talent".

We encourage all of you to send your entries for this feature in forthcoming issues, as and when we send out word to everyone on our WhatsApp groups. Give us an opportunity to show off your achievements and creations!

May we also take this opportunity to remind everyone to get vaccinated, wear a mask properly, and follow all COVID-19 guidelines in public. We hope you will enjoy this issue like you enjoyed our previous issue.

Events Of September

Letterhead Exchange with RaC Kadawatha RID 3220 The letterhead exchange with Rotaract Club of Kadawatha was conducted on 3rd September, 2021 as part of the International Service Avenue, aimed at building peace and harmony, taken up by Rtr. Ria Jain, the ISD and Editor. The meeting started with an introduction of each other’s clubs and cities aided by videos and each of the members introduced themselves. Then, the clubs exchanged letterheads and discussed a joint project that can be done. For fellowship, a game called ‘Memory Game’ was organized and the winner was Rtr. Chaula Dixit. In the meeting, there was a representative from each of the parent Rotary Clubs and they mutually agreed to get in touch and collaborate for a project. The letterhead exchange was a successful project and both the clubs made great progress with breaking the ice and building a bond.

Orientation for New Members The Orientation for new members was conducted by Rtr. Narmada, head of Human Resources. The new members were spoken to about Rotaract, Rotaract Club of Bangalore, the BODs, the Avenues of service, the nature of projects and events conducted in the club, and how the new members can contribute and take initiative.

Teacher’s Day We celebrated the occasion of Teacher’s Day at Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya, with the Interact Club of RBV, on 6th September 2021. We organized a greeting card making session for students of 6th, 7th and 8th grade. The most creative and well written cards were selected and the winners were announced for both. The winners were felicitated by Head Mistress Sudha and Rtn. Meera Shankar. All teachers and staff members were celebrated by cutting a cake and felicitated by mementos and greeting cards. Group photos and interactive sessions followed. This programme boosted the enthusiasm and bond between teachers and students.

Shubha Soukhya Shubha Soukhya which embodies wellbeing and happiness for all, covered menstrual health and sanitation practices for adolescents and teens alongwith distribution of sanitary pads. The project was curated as an inclusive awareness project on menstrual health and sanitation practices. It was conducted for boys and girls of 9th and 10th standard. It included an interactive awareness session on menstruation, its significance and practices for physical, mental and social menstrual wellbeing. We curated a special guest talk by Rtn. Meera Bai Shankar who added her invaluable insights and importance of healthy menstrual practices.

It was followed by a Q&A session discussing concerns and common myths followed by entertainment activity. We also distributed sanitary pads to female students. It was a fruitful event.

Ganeshotsav Ganeshotsav, held on 11th September 2021, was a spiritual and fun based event which brought along plenty of students, teachers and members to be part of this event. The day was started by Ganesha Pratistapana, followed by pooja. Right after the pooja we released an amazing lunch by socialising with all the students.

After lunch, to entertain the students a few games were organized. We played cricket, football, tug of war, volleyball, basketball, Lagori and so on. The day was concluded by Visargan Pooja and distribution of prasadam. Project Head Rtr. Rakshith did a wonderful job along with his team.

General Body Meeting The General Body Meeting was held on 11th September, 2021 at RHF. This meeting helped all the members get to know each other. President Nandan passed some by-laws regarding attendance, meeting, discipline, etc., where all the members agreed to adhere to the rules of RCB. The Avenue Directors presented their project ideas and gave the members some updates for their Avenues. The meeting was attended by some alumni, which gave us the opportunity to meet them and they gave us their suggestions for the betterment of the club. The suggestions were taken wholeheartedly and have also been implemented. The meeting was adjourned, followed by fellowship.

Vaccination Drive A free vaccination drive was conducted on 17th September 2021, partnering with Rotary Club of Bangalore and BBMP at RHF. A total of 240 vaccines were administered. Our very own Rotaractors, Rtr. Joseph, Rtr. Pujashree, Rtr. Syed, Rtr. Shreyas, Rtr. Hari, Rtr. Uday, Rtr. Jagadeesh, Rtr. Rakshith and Rtr. Veeresh ran the whole vaccination drive smoothly and systematically.

Peace O Peace The initiative was taken by the District where they gave an opportunity to all the participants to be a part of the final event. ‘Peace O Peace’ was an event, conducted on 21st September, 2021, whose central theme was World Peace. Our Rotaractors, Rtr. Rakshith and Rtr. Sadhwika represented our club. Rtr. Rakshith went to the finals and Rtr. Sadhwika represented RCB.

Computer Education As a Professional Development initiative, Rtr. Ajith conducted a Basic Computer Education for 10th Standard students of Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya on 25th September 2021. Our club collaborated with our sister club, Rotaract Club of Bangalore Seshadripuram. Rtr. Ajith covered the basics of computers and explained online security and precautions that need to be taken to avoid frauds. A quiz was conducted in the end to increase the fun and learning quotient. The session concluded with distributing chocolates to all students and teachers.

General Body Meeting at ICGF ICGF was held on 26th September 2021 and our club had 16 representatives at ICGF. The meeting was to understand the expectation of new members and getting their inputs for future projects. The venue was amazing and the members enjoyed the premises. The monthly achievers and quarter winners were also announced. Everyone had a great time at ICGF.

Water Conservation As a part of the Professional Development Avenue, on 29th September 2021, our club collaborated with Rotaract Club of BMSCW, Rotaract Club of Marthahalli, Rotaract Club of Banashankari, Rotaract Club of SSMRV College, Rotaract Club of Bangalore East and Rotaract Club of Nagarbhavi on a webinar on the topic of ‘Water Conservation’ conducted by Mrs. Bhavana N. She spoke about the following- drinking water quality parameters - information about the RO technology and how to identify the utility of RO and working.

-Discussion about the impact of water pollution -Need for conservation for current and future generations.

-UDAK foundation - projects undertaken -Impact of the projects -Opportunities for internship and projects -Internship opportunities in the UDAK foundation It was an impactful and informative webinar.

Letterhead Exchange The International Service Director, Rtr. Ria Jain conducted a letterhead exchange with the collaborating clubs for Talking Titans, a Professional Development interdistrict debate competition, Rotaract Club of K G Reddy College of Engineering and Technology RID 3150, Rotaract Club of Coimbatore Main RID 3201, Rotaract Club of Satyabhama RID 3232, Rotaract Club of Guntur Main RID 3150, Rotaract Club of Mysore East RID 3181, Rotaract Club of Mangalore City RID 3181 & Rotaract Club of Venugram RID 3170. It was held on 30th September 2021. The meeting started with an introduction of each other’s clubs and cities aided by videos and each of the members introduced themselves. Then, the clubs exchanged letterheads. Rtr. Sadhwika, Associate Professional Service Director, spoke about Talking Titans and released the brochure. The letterhead exchange was a successful venture. An added bonus to this project was our ZRRs Rtr. Kiran and Rtr. Tarun, and DRR Rtr. Anurag Patwary attended the meeting and congratulated our club for taking up this project and letterhead exchange.

Canopy of Hope ‘Canopy of Hope’ is an amazing initiative taken by the District team that provided the canopies of hope and we distributed “canopies” – beds with mosquito nets for toddlers of construction site workers. Rtr. Pujashree, Secretary of Operations, headed this on our club’s behalf. The canopies help in protecting toddlers from climatic conditions and insects and provide a safe shelter, especially when their parents are at construction sites. We were happy to collect and distribute six canopies to babies/toddlers of construction site workers. It was heartwarming to not only be part of such an amazing social initiative, but also to see smiles on the faces of toddlers and their parents.

The Sapling Initiative As a Club Service Initiative, on any of the Rotaractor’s birthdays, the club gives them a sapling for them to plant on their birthday. This initiative was taken up for a green environment and it was also taken up by our ZRRs to be implemented district-wide!

- Rtr. Pujashree K S (Secretary, Operations) Bisibele baath- Literally translating to "hot lentil rice" is a comforting and popular dish in Karnataka, bursting with rich aromatic flavors of ground spices combined with the goodness of rice and dal. Pair it up with khara boondi and or chips, add a dollop of desi ghee and savour its wholesome goodness!

The Lady This is a piece that hasn't been named yet, it's just called the lady.

It is my first piece made with molding on canvas.

It is a dancer posing with grace, the mold is a part of a 3D sculpture put on a 2D frame.

It doesn’t have a glass on top but is coated with dust proof coating. The materials used include eco-friendly clay and canvas board. @xzarties is my Instagram page which has a video with step by step description of how it is made.

1. Bindushree K Rtr. Bindushree K. She is pursuing her B.E. She plays throwball and badminton. She loves dancing, traveling, and reading. She began her Rotaract journey in 2021-22 at the Rotaract Club of Bangalore.She is looking forward to work actively in the club.

2. Gogineni Geethika Rtr. Gogineni Geethika earned her PGDM (Finance). She plays badminton and basketball. She loves coloring, cooking, solving puzzles, gardening, and traveling.

She began her Rotaract journey in 2021-22 at the Rotaract Club of Bangalore. She is looking forward to work actively in the club.

3. Amala R Rtr. Amala R has earned her MBA and PGCTL, and she currently freelances as a soft skills and communications trainer. She loves swimming. She began her Rotaract journey in 2021-22 at the Rotaract Club of Bangalore. She is looking forward to work actively in the club.

4. Karthik D S Rtr. Karthik D S is a civil engineering student. He plays volleyball and he loves to dance. He began his Rotaract journey in 2021-22 at the Rotaract Club of Bangalore.

6.Aiyappa C V Rtr. Aiyappa CV currently works at Grant Thornton as a tax associate. He completed his MBA. He plays hockey, table tennis, and football. He started his Rotaract journey in 2021-22 at the Rotaract Club of Bangalore and he is eager to learn and grow with the club. He is looking forward to work actively in the club.
