3 CHEERS TO THE RECYCLISTS
These residents are the example of how we can do better disposing our waste They set the standards for recycling properly .
There are 3 containers: Organic, Recycling and Trash . Each one takes specific items.
There are pictures and descriptions on the receptacles of which items go into which container When residents use the wrong trash bin, someone has to remove and place it in the correct one .

Why is this important? For the betterment of the environment and to avoid fines from the EDCO, our waste management company. No one wants to have to pay more .
Thank you in advance for your continued cooperation .

Food for Thought and Things to Do
Authentic Italian Cuisine in El Cajon

Situated in the heart of downtown El Cajon, Testo Pepesto provides delicious Italian cuisine for our culinary delight Many Villa Novians have savored their delectable lasagna that has been served at some of its functions .
Lasagna is one of the many pasta dishes to choose . The past menu includes a variety: penne, cannelloni, ravioli, spaghetti carbonara, to my favorite, gnocchi . Testo Pesto entices the meat lover with delectable chicken, veal and fish entries.
Open for lunch at 11:00 am, the restaurant offers a diverse choice of

sandwiches and salads accompanying their traditional Italian selections .
The covered patio allows patrons to appreciate a delicious meal and people watch during a beautiful Southern California day while enjoying a myriad of wines and spirits
Testo Pepesto makes it easy for its customers . One may order online, take out or purchase one of their many wonderful sauces .
Located at 221 East Main Street, Testo Pepesto is open from 11 a m to 8:30 pm every night and until 9 p .m . Friday and Saturday . Saluti!

April 10th is opening night of the Cajon Classic Cruise . Vintage car owners transport their timeless vehicles for automobile buffs to savor Music and entertainment complement the enjoyment . Located in the 200 block of East Main and its FREE . A city of El Cajon tradition!
Breakfast in El Cajon
Breakfast is my favorite meal . Since we moved to El Cajon we have sampled every breakfast venue in the city . We have found a favorite, Bonnie’s Café located at 596 Broadway First and foremost, the food is excellent . The bacon in plentiful and thick, not the thin skimpy slices served at the national chain restaurants . Serving sizes are plentiful Our breakfast always turns into three meals . Bonnie’s dining area with the tables and booths generously spread throughout their 1950s motif with golden oldies enhancing the friendly atmosphere Debbie’s is open from 7 a .m . to 2 p .m . serving breakfast, brunch and lunch featuring traditional American fare .

RESIDENT PROFILE
Betty Maurer President, Villa Novia Estates Senior Residents Association
Betty Maurer has lived, and is living, an extraordinary life .
From a high school beauty queen to a ground breaking airline hostess to her current role as President of the Villa Novia SRA, she has enjoyed the opportunity of worldwide travel, meeting exciting and amazing people and making life a little easier for those who followed in her footsteps
Her journey began in Hemet where she was awarded the title of Miss Hemet and the honor of representing her hometown in the Miss California contest . In 1958
Betty graduated with the 3rd class from stewardess school; an event chronicled in Life Magazine . As an American Airlines stewardess, she traveled the globe; met famous people like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Harry Belafonte, Lyndon Johnson, Robert Kennedy, Willie Mays and the entire San Francisco Giant baseball team when the franchise moved from New York .

At American Airlines, Betty bumped hard into the glass ceiling Stewardesses were required to wear
red fingernail polish. Their hair could not touch their uniform collar and girdles were required Perhaps the biggest indignation, a stewardess could not exceed 32 years of age! After leaving American, she joined Continental Airlines where she supervised their stewardess team for the next ten years . Betty’s story continues on back cover . Here picture from these years appears below
Continued on page 12

The love of her life, husband Ron, was a manager for Western Auto in Hilo, Hawaii Island living would eventually end when Western Auto ceased Hawaiian operations . The family transferred to Calexico California until Ron’s retirement lead the couple to Villa Novia .
The enticing brightly lit olive trees at the Villa Novia entrance resulted in Betty and Ron settling here in the fall of September 2002 . She has been active within our community from the onset . She served on the Hospitality Committee for 14 years. Betty was Villa Novia’s first Ambassador, welcoming new residents until Covid interrupted that program She has served on the SRA’s Board of Directors since 2009 and is its current president .
Betty Maurer has lived a life of bountiful experiences. You can find her at the SRA Meeting, every Villa Novia event and the Who’s Who of American Women . Betty Maurer, Villa Novia’s Queen Bee
