America on Main Street

America on Main Street is a celebration of the American spirit through appreciation and respect of the many diverse ethnic and historical groups in the community. Highlights include multiple stages of live entertainment, American and ethnic food booths, rides, arts, crafts and display booths, a petting zoo, bounce houses and more!
This year’s event is on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Admission and most activities are free of charge. Entertainment events are scheduled throughout the day culminating with a Laser Show at 8:45pm.
This entertaining and exciting event is held every year in Downtown El Cajon, on East Main Street and Rea Avenue, between Magnolia and Claydelle Avenues.

Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the victory on May 5, 1862 by the Mexican troops under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza, who defeated the French forces of Napoleon III at the Battle of Puebla, located southeast of Mexico City.
The city, which was later renamed Puebla de Zaragoza, is the site
of a museum devoted to the battle and the battlefield itself is maintained as a park.
While it is a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States, Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a commemoration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations.

Unofficially, it marks the beginning of summer.
