Jolts and vibrations Rough handling and excessive jolts and vibrations in the period from fertilisation to the first days of the incubation process can disrupt embryonic development. The embryo may die or show abnormal development. Congenital malformations are generally seen at the extremities of the embryo. This can present as an extra leg or an opening in the skull (exposed brains). This is a particular risk with eggs from an old parent stock (> 45 weeks).
A simple solution has been used here to prevent movement and jolting. A number of paper trays have been clamped between the pallets of eggs to minimise movement during transport.

Take extreme care to limit jolts and vibrations as much as possible when transporting eggs at the breeder farm and also at the hatchery. An electric pallet truck can help.

These inflatable bumpers are deflated before the trailer is loaded. After loading, the bumpers inflate and create a soft cushion that securely holds the trolleys in place.
Remember that a trailer moves in various directions during transport. From front to back, left to right and up and down.
Always move the trolleys of eggs gently and calmly. Ensure smooth transitions between surfaces to avoid jolts and vibrations.
