Once the eggs have been set for 18 days and transferred, the setter trays they were delivered on are returned to the parent stock farm. For obvious reasons, the setter trays must be very thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.

Even a tiny flake left behind in a setter tray is a potential source of infection. So, this tray is not cleaned well enough. Sometimes corners are difficult to clean, and certainly if the batch of eggs included bangers. So, a post-cleaning inspection is necessary. This setter tray was not washed well enough.

Rotten eggs can easily explode during transfer. These bangers cause a great deal of cross-contamination.
Trolleys are not likely returned to the same breeder farm they came from. But the trolleys are cleaned and sampled to check for infections. 128
After transferring the eggs to hatching baskets, egg residues are sometimes left in the setter trays. The content of a banger is sticky, and it dries more while in the setter. This can make the residue difficult to remove.
