(Photo credit: Discovery Center Museum) Local organizations provide engineering fun for youth at Discovery Center Museum: The snowboard, water slides, running shoes, the ferris wheel and virtual reality…all things invented by engineers! Engineers play a vital role in innovating solutions to global challenges that impact future generations. By working together to develop new technologies, products and opportunities, engineers create new possibilities that make the world a better place. Local engineering feats will be showcased at Discovery Center Museum on Saturday, February 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to celebrate National Engineers Week - February 19-25, 2023. Discover Engineering features engineers from local companies, along with members of the local professional engineering societies and high school robotics teams, providing demonstrations, hands-on activities and general information. The event offers elementary and middle school-age children the opportunity to take part in numerous experiments and hands-on activities such as designing and testing bridges, experimenting with circuits and motorized gears, participating in chemistry experiments, building and launching catapults, and much more! So set your brain on “try-it mode” and prepare for some fun challenges! Discover Engineering is sponsored by TAC Rockford, the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers – Rockford Chapter, and the Illinois Space Grant Consortium. Cost is included with Museum admission - $10 adults; $10 children ages 2-17; and free to Museum members and children age 1 and younger. About Discovery Center Museum: Discovery Center Museum is a children’s science museum providing hands-on math, science and art experiences for all ages with over 250 hand-on exhibits and an award-winning outdoor park.
