ANOTHER AMAZING SEASON OF GOLF IS COMING TO A CLOSE AT THE CREST.

2024 was one of driest years on record and with that we had a firm and fast golf course most of the year. The team cannot remember a year with this much hand watering! It is strange to see the course “green up” as winter is closing in, but with these much needed November rains, that is what is going on As we move into winter the staff is busy preparing the golf course for the coming cold, and making sure

that next season will be an even better one Thank you all for a wonderful season I wish all of you the happiest of holidays and a joyful new year! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns

WINTER/SPRING AERATION

This November and December we are completing our winter/spring aeration To date the greens, tees and approaches have all been core aerated, topdressed and fertilized. The fairways will be solid deep tined in the coming weeks We delayed this process because the fairways were too dry to aerate, I can not remember that ever happening before. Again, we will not be doing any aeration in the spring. In mid-June after all the member events we will do a round of light venting to let the soil breath during the heat of July

FALL MAINTENANCE

Leaf cleanup is a big part of our fall process This season the team has been aided by our brand new Wiedenmann super sweeper 600. This added equipment has us weeks ahead of our normal fall cleanup. The waterfall pumps and many of the accessories have been taken in for winter refurbishing The much needed rain has allowed us to blow out the irrigation system and soon we will be closing the bathrooms on the course Finally, as we move deeper into December, the golf course will be set up for winter Only a forward and back set of tee markers will be left out, we will place two cups in the greens for rotation, along with the option of temp pins in the approaches, and the many of the high volume tee boxes will be covered.

PROJECTS

Fall and winter are a great time to make changes to the golf course The first tee renovation has already been completed and we are looking forward to having it ready to go early next season. Creating a bigger space for our blue tees on the opening holes will enhance the experience for our members and guests. The team has also added a new landscape planting on the front drive by the pool building, improving the curb appeal of our driveway. This winter we will be working on our usual areas of improvements: tree maintenance, fairway drainage, and bunker repairs
