Welcome to the 20th season at RiverCrest Golf Club!

20 YEAR CELEBRATION

Our celebration back in February was one for the ages! Over 480 members attended and I’m still receiving positive comments on the decor, food, entertainment and how our staff flawlessly executed the event. Thank you to all who attended, volunteered and our first class staff for pulling off such an unbelievable night of festivities!

For those of you who were not able to attend, please click the link in the email that directs you to my speech that evening (promise it is not too long!). Our family is grateful for your support and looking forward to another great 20 years here at RiverCrest together. So be sure to give it a listen!

STEWARDSHIP PLEDGE

Each spring I like to remind everyone the importance of golf club etiquette On the following page is the Club’s Stewardship Pledge Please take the time to read the bullet points and respect your fellow members by playing on pace, repairing ball marks and divots and keeping (our beautiful new) golf carts out of the native grass areas It’s everyone’s responsibility to abide by these guidelines ensuring everyone enjoys their round of golf

PICTURES IN CLUBESSENTIAL

In addition to preparing for the big celebration this offseason, the club also invested in updated Clubessential software modules for just about every department. All of our existing data was transferred into the new system with the exception of member photos. Our staff relies on these photos to best serve you, so if you could please take a minute to upload a face shot photo of yourself to your profile (using either the app or the website) it would be greatly appreciated!

CLUBHOUSE DRESS CODE

A change has been made to the Club’s dress code. New this season, hats will now be permitted to be worn outside under the terrace at all times Hats will still need to be removed after 5pm inside, but now outdoors you can wear hats all night long A few reminders on our dress code policy.

Sweatpants, t-shirts and hooded sweatshirts are not considered appropriate, including children

Flip flops and sport slides are not considered appropriate attire. Dress sandals are considered appropriate

It’s important that all members know and adhere to the following policies. The dress code is the same for young children and please be sure to inform your guests of the dress code prior to visiting the Club. Visit our website for our entire dress code policy

Spring is here! The Crest is rounding into shape for the upcoming 2024 golf season. This winter was one of the wettest winters on record. We did experience a period of cold temps and frozen ground, which is good for the grass and good for our project schedule After a wet winter, spring is starting out dry and mild, which is also giving the team lots of time to get the course ready for the season The agronomy team is busy getting first cuts on all the fine turf, fixing up the bunkers, mulching all the landscape beds and getting chemical weed controls out With the official start of the golf season right around the corner, the team is excited to see our members and guests back out here enjoying the Crest.

WINTER PROJECTS

This winter our main focus was tree work. The past two mild winters had us behind in managing our tree population. The removal of dead ash trees, due to the emerald ash bore, continues to dominate our winter tree work Roughly 80% of the trees work this winter was on dead ash trees or the removal of invasive tree of heaven, the lantern fly host tree. We have replanted trees around the golf course adding oaks and cherry trees to areas where the ash were removed

Adding length to the Crest continues, as we added another tee to the back of #2. We also renovated and enlarged the gold tee on #1 Both of these tees were sodded in mid-March and will be ready to play off of by early May These new tees will increase our teeing ground diversity and hopefully add some new and exciting shot selection for our members and guests

GREENS

The putting greens were opened in the beginning of March They are in good shape for the upcoming season The greens were verticut, topdressed and fertilized in late February in preparation for

the upcoming season. Over the last few weeks, the greens have been cut, rolled and sprayed multiple times starting our process of daily conditioning of the putting surfaces We will not do any spring aeration, and are looking to have the greens rolling smooth for the spring season.

FAIRWAYS

They fairways are in excellent shape coming out of winter. This spring we spiked and verticut the fairways before our first cut to help “wake them up” more quickly Our seasonal staff has already begun a thorough divoting of the fairways and tees With warmer temperatures we will begin our spring weed sprays and increase our mowing frequency

BUNKERS

Spring sand distribution was completed in early March. During that process nearly 50 tons of sand was added to the bunkers around the course The team has begun daily maintenance of the bunkers and we continue to strive for the most consistent bunker experience possible for all members and guests

These early warm days are always such a special time for the team. It is so nice to see people back out on the course and enjoying it! The bulbs planted last fall in the clubhouse landscaping are starting to pop signaling the official start of spring. Many of the golf course accessories are already out, including the new 20 year logo flags. Please understand that the ballwashers and coolers are always the last thing placed on the course, to avoid any damage caused by freezing on a cold spring night Thank you all for your continued support. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

For those of you who have been around for a while, you may remember the beginning of Colby’s Rule of the Month in the fall of 2009 He was two months old when I started writing about his adventures in golf (he’s 14 now!) The truth may have been stretched a little bit, but I had a lot of fun writing the Rules. Back then, we had a monthly newsletter, so there were several Rules every year, to the tune of over 100 Colby’s Rules of the Month Then Rita came along, and Colby wanted the Rule of the Month to be hers, and thus the birth of Rita’s Rule of the Month for the past few years

Well, we have a very big adventure coming up in a couple weeks And it’s all because of Colby He is a Finalist in the National Drive, Chip and Putt at Augusta. So, we’re all heading to the Masters for the first time ever! Here’s a picture from his very first at-

tempt, to a recent picture of him heading to the finals!

Little did we know then where his golf career would lead him (and us). So, I thought I’d stroll down memory lane and revisit his very first Rule of the Month Congratulations Colby! We’re all super proud of you! Good luck in Augusta!

Colby’s Rule of the month (October 2009) Rule – 18 Ball at Rest moved

(Based on a true story, somewhat)

Last week, Colby (my two-month-old son) was playing the 1st Hole (he’s only a One-Holer so far) Colby hit his fourth shot onto the green (he wasted a shot by dribbling his tee shot) As he walked up to mark his ball he stumbled (the whole walking thing is still kind of new to him). His pacifier fell out of his mouth and accidentally caused the ball to move. He started to cry, so I told him there was “No Crying in Golf.”

After he composed himself, he asked me what the ruling was I’ve never been so proud (cue the music), not only was he already talking but he was inquiring about a ruling I told him that when he was really little, I used to read the Rules of Golf book to

him It put him to sleep every time, so he might not remember Rule 18-2a (ii) Ball at Rest Moved by Player, Partner, Caddie or Equipment The ruling states if the equipment of the player causes the ball to move the player incurs a penalty of one stroke and the ball must be replaced Anything worn or carried by the player is deemed to be equipment

Colby wasn’t very happy with my ruling, but he took it like a man, replaced his ball, 2-putted and wrote a 7 on the scorecard. He wrote it in crayon in the wrong spot. I should have given him another penalty, but I gave him a mulligan since he’s only two months old (I guess I have a soft spot for him) I can’t wait until he becomes a Three-Holer and we can deal with the water hazard rulings on Hole # 3
