Enojo to reconsider resignation---if

hould he get his family’s consent and comes to terms with Governor Roel Degamo, Atty. Richard Enojo may be prevailed upon to remain as Provincial Administrator and Provincial Attorney just days after his abrupt departure caused the rumor mill to go overdrive.

To correct all speculations, Enojo addressed the media on Thursday pointing out that he resigned last week to fully prepare for his candidacy in Zamboanguita and to return to the more lucrative private practice. No more, no

less!

However, following the repeated requests for him to reconsider, Enojo has asked for two days to make a final decision. If he resumes his duties in the Capitol tomorrow, he might no longer pursue his plan to run for a seat in the Municipal Council of his hometown Zamboanguita.

If he decides to leave the Capitol, it does not mean he will abandon Governor Degamo altogether as he could still extend legal aid especially in connection with the two cases pending before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Public Law No. 5, “An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of Our Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Islands,” was enacted on September 19, 1900, marking this year as the 115th annual celebration. The Civil Service Commission (CSC), as lead agency, has lined up events and special treats this upcoming month-long celebration designed to encourage and inspire servant-heroes nationwide, in line with the theme: Kayang Kaya Mo, Lingkod Bayani!

Besides, PNoy can save his neck with plunder cases as VP since he shall be immune from suit for the next six years.

But he is not immune from suit when he steps down in June, like Arroyo , Noy could be a deja vu.

So our calculated guess is that the best assurance of an anti-corruption administration beginning in 2016 is a PNoy vice presidency. Short of that, Roxas will have a hard, hard climb before, during and after the polls. Sounds like a reality check, meaning, “sa totoo lang.”

veryday when I go to Robinson’s mall, I see another victim. Usually their left arms and hands are crippled, the left side of their face is often paralyzed making speech difficult and they usually have trouble walking. They seem almost lost; bewildered at the devastation that has suddenly destroyed their normal life. The real tragedy is they could have probably avoided this silent killer. Hypertension or high blood pressure is called the “silent killer” because you have almost no symptoms until it is too late. Hypertension is a major factor for hypertensive heart disease, stroke, aortic aneurysm, peripheral artery disease, kidney disease, cognitive impairment and even dementia. Several of these problems can kill you or you could , like my mother, simply wake up not being able to recognize your own children.

The Philippines is currently SECOND in the world for hypertension deaths ( a small country in Africa is first). One in every four people in the world has hypertension and most of them do not know it. The condition is more common in men, post menopausal women and those in low social economic status. The risk for developing hypertension increases with age but can strike even children. Hypertension is the MOST important preventable risk factor in premature death. Thankfully, the risk of hypertension problems can be significantly reduced with a few simple dietary and lifestyle

changes.

Lifestyle changes to help prevent hypertension: • Maintain a normal healthy body weight (a mass index of 20-25 kg/m) • Reduce dietary sodium ( 2.4 g daily) • Engage in regular aerobic exercise (a brisk 30 min walk pwer day minimum) • Limit your consumption of alcohol( 2-3 units per day) • Eat a diet rich in fresh vegetables / fruit (at least 5 portions per day) • Reduce your caffeine consumption and maintain your daily dose of Vitamin D. • Consumption of excessive licorice, certain prescrip-

tion medicines, herbal remedies and illegal drugs can also increase your hypertension risk. Be careful what you put in your body; arsenic is a natural organic substance but that does not mean you should eat it.

Beyond these recommendations, we in Dumaguete City are in a unique position to reduce our hypertensive injuries and death to a fraction and also provide enhanced training to our local medical students. The local academic community could join forces with Robinson’s Mall and have a monthly free blood pressure test for all patrons. Not only would this give our medical students real blood pressure testing experience but also help mall patrons prevent injury and death from hypertension.

Other people’s opinion is out of our control, but sometimes, we can also learn from them.

n today’s promise, we read the Scripture passage where the Apostle Paul is speaking to some Greek philosophers on a place called Mars Hill. In this place of pagan worship, they had many false gods that they erected statues and monuments to.

Paul, being the relevant kind of guy that he was, stopped at a simple monument created for ‘the unknown god’. It was there that Paul began to reveal some of the mysteries about who the ‘unknown god’ actually was. Paul went on to preach the good news to these philosophers and revealed that the unknown god was actually the only true God. I love how Paul creatively shared how God does not need to be worshipped through statues and idols because He is the very One that gives life and breath to all things!

The truth is that our God is not unknown and nameless. If we want to know what He is like, all we have to do is look at His Son, Jesus Christ. In John 14:9, Jesus says that anyone who has seen Jesus has seen the Father. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father’s being.

The wonderful news about today’s promise is that the God and Father of all creation (Ephesians 4:6) continues to be very involved in everything He created. He is not distant and unconcerned, for every heartbeat and every breath comes from His goodness.

Nothing wrong with sports or even having a time out to enjoy life. People are busy with their school, job or in many cases their hobbies. Again, nothing wrong but when it takes up your whole life and you do not have time to think of things that are serious in life, it is too much. People get baptized as babies and confirmed when they are 12 years old, then they feel that is all they ever need to prepare for Eternity. So, they do not really take life serious assuming these rituals will be enough to go to heaven. Most people do not realize how short life is until they become 50, 60 and even in the 70s. I heard of a mother talking about her children having grown up.

She said with tears in Her eyes, ‘how short that time with my children was’. One thing people need to realize is that time does not stop for anyone. Psalms 90:10 “The days of our years are three score years and ten (that means score equals 20 years and that would be a total of 70 years). Psalms 103:15 “As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field..” If man’s life is so short, it would seem wise to prepare to die. Death is something people like to keep their thoughts away from. Yet, everyone of us was made by God and will return back to Him. Yet, Jesus Christ provided us a way of escape for our sins and punishment from them, when He died on a cruel cross in our place. As Jesus is dying, He forgives the thief and Jesus told him, ‘today shalt thou be with me in paradise’. Do you believe what the Bible says? Unbelief is what keeps people out of heaven. Jesus Christ states, ‘Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” Will you come?

Some products of these redef initions are now the often-touted concepts of responsible parenthood, reproductive health, feminism, samesex marriage, etc., that can contain many valid concepts but mixed with wrong ones.

Even God, faith, religion, love and nature itself are now subjected to purely subjective interpretations with oneself or some consensus as the ultimate authority to define them.

There’s now a lot of confusion, and obviously some sectors with hidden agenda are taking advantage of the situation.

This is now the time to reclaim the truth about things, to go back to their original, objective basis.

This definitely is not going to be an easy task, but it certainly has to be done, and done without bitterness and hatred, but with patience, charity and utmost fidelity to the very source of truth. The ideal to reach is to attain the exclusivity of truth together with the inclusivity of love.

Let’s settle first the question of who is the ultimate source of truth. Is it God who has revealed himself in full through his Son who became man and left us with the Church, or is it ourselves, personally and collectively?

This point is crucial, because if we are not clear about this, then we can launch into a goose chase of looking for the truth about us and things in general.

Many of us often ignore this question, much less, take the effort to resolve it. And so we can have a Tower-ofBabel effect—a lot of confusion, with errors masquerading as truths.

It’s indispensable that we study the doctrine of our faith very well, employing the appropriate human tools of the sciences, arts and even the technologies and other human systems like our laws, customs, culture, etc., to bring out the wealth of truth contained in our faith.

This obviously would require a personal conversion, since proclaiming the truth is not simply an intellectual or cultural affair. It is, first and last, a personal relation with God.

Not preparing enough just results in worry and anxiety, both of which distract me from the beauty and joys of the journey.

We desire changes in our lives but are often unwilling to make the small sacrifices necessary to make these changes happen. The preparation for life takes a lifetime

Ramos also underscores that justice and equity was not served after he was not furnished the complete records containing the allegations so he could be properly guided in his defense.

Thus, in his appeal to the LTO dated July 20, 2015, Ramos is seeking the “outright dismissal of the charges for being bereft of legal and factual bases and for suffering severe cause of technical infirmities.” He is also requesting for the lifting of the 90-day preventive suspension, which is not a penalty by nature.
