Takes two generations

resident Aquino who means well is too naïve to believe that reforms and changes in the system of governance, particularly the pursuit of the straight path (daangmatuid) will occur under his term. No. If serious, it should take at least two generations to get a breed of honest ,committed , and transparent public servants. And it starts with today’s children, not with the old folks. Unless we seriously train our periscopes to the new generation or two, the present one is a hopeless case. It was good that PNoy started it. He was the guy because he did not need the money and, he was not used to stealing money because he is a rich boy who has been provided everything by Mom since Day One. In a note before his assassination, Ninoy, the father, already told PNoy the son to be ready to take over and take care of Mom. He did not know that the son

was destined to take care of the nation, not just Mom. The president cannot do all things at the same time. Since he is not used to multi-tasking , then he has to bungle along the way. He could be branded as the most incompetent, inexperienced leader, but for many such an (un-adulterated ) kind is the best since he only has goodwill. If a crook takes the place of PNoy in 2016, then he better kiss his dreams goodbye because things will just go back to the old ways once a dishonest and corrupt leader takes over. So look around and see who will take over. And finally don’t forget the children and the next because they are our only hope—so long as they are oriented and reared in the proper manner. Happy New Year guys!

Helping in politics P

Dateline Manila by Bingo P. Dejaresco

OPE Francis in his September 16 homily which is given daily at Santa Marta has called the faithful to be actively involved in politics. Of course, there are volumes of Church documents saying so, especially after the Second Vatican Council—and even hereabouts, the Philippines bishops said the same but rather more categorically in their Pastoral Exhortation on Philippines Politics and in the Second Plenary Council of the Philippines (PCP-II). But Pope Francis in all trine of the Church, he said stressing the need for humility simplicity and candor said it that politics “is one of the and love. “A leader who seemingly bereft of any theo- highest forms of charity, doesn’t love, cannot govern— logical jargon and rhetoric. because it serves the com- at best they can discipline, they He rejected the idea that “a mon good.” Which is why, can give a little bit of order, but good Catholic doesn’t med- he said, one cannot just they can’t govern… and every dle in politics.” That is not a shrug it off since every citi- man, every woman who has to good path, he said, because zen is responsible for par- take up the service of govern“a good Catholic meddles in ticipating in politics ac- ment, must ask themselves politics, offering the best of cording to his/her ability. two questions: ‘Do I love my Reflecting on the Gospel people in order to serve them himself, so that those who govern can govern…that they about the centurion (Lk 7:1- better? he New Year is a time for optimism. No matter how bleak or how low life sometimes brings us, the New Year always ushers hope for much better, happier days ahead. That is the reason why we greet each other a "happy" new year. Let me offer my prayers for a bountiful new year for everyone. For those wo lost practically everything due to natural calamities, here is a sincere prayer and hope that the new year will allow them to recover and rebuild. For those who lost their jobs this year, here's hoping that in the new year, you find work, or work finds you. For those who oppose the freshly minted law on Reproductive Health, I hope that the new year will provide another opportunity to ventilate and advance their cause in clamping down this piece of legislation, this time, in the courts of law. For those who have felt dissatisfaction on the poor performance of their incumbent political leaders, the new year certainly brings hope and opportunity to re-assess, and if warranted, choose others to run the affairs of government. For those living in the crossfires of war, we hope the new year will bring peace. For those who have been injured, we hope the new year brings healing. As we welcome the new year, let us all be filled with hope that despite the odds, life will be better, happier. I remember my favorite movie, "Shawshank Redemption," when Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) left a letter to fellow prisoner Red (Morgan Freeman): "Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies" There is always good reason to be hopeful. Happy New Year! 40 40
