A “Mercearia Lima”, do sr.

vism, renewal, respect for nature, respect for God, for all divine beings. Including, always, the strength of the forest, the strength of the Queen of the Forest. And this school has been learning by following this teachings for many years now.

Inthe 80s, the Model Community Padrinho Sebastião began, with the aim of creating, materially, the spiritual school of the Doctrine of Papai Sebastião, together with Padrinho Irineu Serra. What originated the beginning of a school of the new world, new people, new system. And, at the time, we created the community form for the segment of the irmandade in the religion, in the improvement of the Doctrine and the Community, in the form of a community life following the project of Padrinho Sebastião – which means union, understanding and brother/sisterhood.

Then, we created the strength, the right path to expand this school through the forest from Acre to Amazonas. And so we can root the Doctrine and the Community, with all the firmness, certainty and conviction of its founder, of its creator. From that prophet who received this mission and has been developing it step by step, thus showing our Community from childhood, adolescence and maturity.

So, it was done at the Rio do Ouro rubber plantation, in that wonderful jungle of Rio do Ouro, almost four years of administration in the papai Sebastião model – which is extracti-

Our community moved to Céu do Mapiá – thanks to God and to all our efforts – and rooted like a tree that has roots, stems, leaves, flowers and fruits. And these good fruits are discerned in everyone who has developed and improved spiritually. In everyone who, today, takes care of some sector of the Community, still in the battle to do everything as said by the one who gave us this legacy, this spiritual and material school.

And so, I see the Community like a baby. Then, like a child already developing and, later, like someone who already has a certain understanding of life, like an adolescent. And going through the difficulties – both for spiritual understanding, as well as for material understanding, for the true and respectful human embodiment of the material part, which is so necessary for the growth, expansion and eternity of this spiritual school of Papai Sebastião and Padrinho Irineu Serra.

So, our Community, today, already within maturity, is more able to understand and receive the gifts that come to us so often - through donations, humanitarian aid, projects, and even jobs and government support, for the balance of the Community.

Certainly, the Community has a lot of perspectives, even though it has not been completed yet, but with maturity, care and respect, with this creative power, this expanding power, which is God in everything. The Community is achieving, at the present moment, many good things in the sense of a well-elaborated life project, a well-established and satisfactory life project within the Masters’ request: listen a lot, speak little, and love God above all things, and your brother and sister as yourself.

So, I see the Community already quite prepared to assume everything that is already coming and more wisdom and more good projects that will arrive – for the community material balance of our people: elders; adults; teenagers and children, the new generation.

So ‘viva’ all these people, ‘viva’ the new generation. So, I point out here, in this discernment, telling something more important that happened, like in the good times, as well as in the moments of suffering, of difficulty, which was not easy and still is not easy. We have to have a lot of resilience so that, over time, in 40 years, everything changes, everything evolves or devolves, depending on how we deal with the project.

Thank you very much for the moment!

CEU DO MAPIÁ BIRTH AND GROWTH

more years, it will be a very prosperous Céu do Mapiá, full of jobs. That we can have our young people all doing something, working, not only through money, but through community work, with great joy, getting us to live more together, to plant, to harvest.

At the beginning, when we arrived, Céu do Mapiá was just a child, right? Being born and growing. So, we were also, together with it, growing up and living a rubber plantation life style: quite naturally, trying to live with what the forest provides, with what the forest has and with what we do, too. To plant and to harvest.

Our beginning was like this. It was always in this intention to work together in unity. It started as a rubber plantation and from a rubber plantation, then we saw the growth of all this and, thank God, it arrived as it is now – a city that Padrinho always spoke to us about. He spoke of the Nova Jerusalem, the city of the Nova Jerusalem. So, for me, this is the city of Nova Jerusalem.

And from now on – and also for the future of our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren – I hope it will always be like this, in this growth, in this search for this understanding of living together, working together and making things prosper; within all that we already have in here.

So, I see it is like this: that our Céu do Mapiá always has good growth. That, in a few

From now on, this is the only way I see it: that we should be more awake and to see that we have to live off our land, have our land – which is our Creator Mother, who supports us. We can rely on it too, with our knowledge, plant what we have to eat, which many are already doing. And we have to keep up, because we’ve always done this and for a while we forgot. But we cannot forget, we have to always be on that front.

So, let us all be more awake for this search for our future. For us, for our children and grandchildren.

OUR SMALL CLAIMS FORUM

TheDisciplinary Ethical Council – CED is a kind of forum for small claims in Vila Céu do Mapiá. Formed by about 12 volunteer elderly residents, CED has already dealt with thousands of cases. It works like this: in the AMVCM there is the Book of Records of Occurrences, in it, the resident or visitor can register their complaint. When there is a considerable number of events, requests for attendance are sent to claimants, defendants and eventual witnesses, for a meeting with the Council.

At the meeting, the claimant details his claim, the defendant defends himself and the witnesses give their version. After

the reports, the members of the council give their opinions and usually advice to the parties involved. In more serious cases: warnings, punishments such as suspension of participation in

church activities, provision of services to local institutions or even suspension of the right to stay in the village.

For its investigation activities and compliance with its determinations, CED has always had a support group, today called Guardians of the Forest – six residents fardados who receive a financial help, thanks to the support of partners. As a result, incidents in the Community have greatly reduced. The CED also managed to develop, together with the Instituto Dialogação, its Internal Regulations and it is now looking for partnerships to build its own headquarters and definitively make its operation and the remuneration of the Guardians viable. There are hundreds of requests already.

AMVCM: THE FIRSTBORN OF MAPIÁ INSTITUTIONS

The Residents’ Association of Vila Céu do Mapiá was born to administrate the Community and today it is almost a city hall.

Founded on April 6th, 1987, the Residents’ Association of Vila Céu do Mapiá (AMVCM) was the first institution born from the mother ICEFLU, at the time still called Cefluris. It was also the first organization created to administrate the Community. Having as its first president Padrinho Alfredo and vice-president his brother Valdete, then Lucio Mortimer, Alex Polari, José Corrente, Antonio Jorge and João Evangelista (Vanja), today it has a woman at its direction for the first time: Roseneide Raulino.

In these 40 years, AMVCM has been fundamental for community organization, from the transformation of the area into a National Forest, the organization of collective efforts,

support to sectors such as health, social assistance, security, the environment etc., relations with public sectors such as city hall, ICMBIO and other governmental and non-governmental institutions.

Today, managing a community with about a thousand residents, which extends from the central village to the riverside colonies, Fazenda São Sebastião and Gregório de Melo and Dom João communities, AMVCM is like a local city hall.

With a modern by-law that is divided into three councils: Administrative (institutional representation), Community (General Secretary and 10 management areas) and Fiscal, the institution is a reference for articulating and managing community and institutional activities.

Therefore, AMVCM has been articulating the Participatory Community Master Plan, in order to plan the land organization, internal regulations, re-registration of residents, survey of socio-economic environmental data, health, education, infrastructure etc. With this, it intends to structure the village for the next 40 years.

Let it come!

THE COMMUNITY SAGA IN THE HEART OF THE AMAZON

Vila Céu do Mapiá completes 40 years building the dream of its founder Padrinho Sebastião of “a new world, new people, new system”.

Vila Céu do Mapiá was founded on January 21st, 1983, with the arrival on its land Padrinho Sebastião and his companions. Behind them, in a large canoe, came the HWG group, the Heavy Work Group, which would soon build a “latada”, a shelter where everyo-

ne stayed in the center of the Community and which would become Padrinho’s house. Coming from Colônia Cinco Mil, the first community founded by them, they aimed to experience human and spiritual development in a new system of community life, fair, in har-

mony, and nourished by the forest, as an experimental alternative for solutions to the current environmental, cultural and socioeconomic crisis.

During and after the pioneering phase of construction of basic infrastructure, plantations and informal agree-

ments, the main organizations that currently operate in the village were created. From the mother institution, the Eclectic Center of Fluent Universal Light Raimundo Irineu Serra (CEFLURIS), today the Church of the Eclectic Center of Fluent Universal Light Patron Sebastião Mota de Melo (ICEFLU), as well as: the Residents’ Association of Vila Céu do Mapiá (AMVCM), the Environmental Development Institute Raimundo Irineu Serra (IDARIS), the Association of Producers of the Lower Igarapé Mapiá (APROBIM), the Forest Medicine Center (CMF), the Cruzeiro do Céu State School and its Association of Community Parents and Teachers, the Madrinha Rita Municipal Kindergarten, the Agroextractivist Cooperative (Cooperar), the

Santa Casa de Cura Padrinho Manoel Corrente and the Basic Municipal Health Unit. In addition to various organized movements such as the Lua Branca Culture and Leisure Center (children and youth), Jardim da Natureza (artists and artisans), Casa de Música Madrinha Júlia, Telecentre, Mário Rogério Library, Radio and Canal Jagube, among others.

These institutions and organizations formed the GTI – Interinstitutional Working Group, a forum designed to advise and deliberate on suprainstitutional matters.

The Community has grown, organized itself and, today, with about a thousand inhabitants, it is facing new challenges, in pursuit of Padrinho Sebastião’s dream: a “new world, new people, new system”.

COMMUNITY MASTERS

In 1945, Raimundo Irineu Serra, founder of the Daime Doctrine, managed to migrate to a rubber plantation, an area of native forest hours away from the city, where he developed his way of life in freedom. Mestre Irineu, always accompanied by these families, for decades, received disillusioned patients who, due to his work, were cured and many of them settled in the community. In the 1970s, Padrinho Sebastião, one of Mestre’s great followers, developed a community in Colônia Cinco Mil. He would still go with his people to Rio do Ouro, before founding Vila Céu do Mapiá, on 01/21/1983 – one day after San Sebastian’s day, and his passage to the spiritual, 7 years later.

OUR AMAZON COMMUNITIES: FROM THE MOTHER TO THE YOUNGEST

The

community saga began at Cinco

Mil and returned to Juruá, where the founder was born.

THE YOUNGEST

THE MOTHER

Padrinho Sebastião met Mestre Irineu and the Daime in 1965 and started going to Alto Santo with his family. Soon he started working at home, with family members, relatives and neighbors. That was the embryo of the Church of Colônia Cinco Mil. On June 24th, 1974 (Saint John) the Church was officially born receiving the name of Eclectic Center of Fluent Universal Light Raimundo Irineu Serra (CEFLURIS).

From that date until 1982, the center received visitors from all over Brazil and began the internationalization of Daime through the thousands of foreigners from 15 countries in the Americas, Asia and Europe who visited the Colônia.

In 1989, the Colônia Cin-

co Mil church emancipated itself becoming the Eclectic Center of Fluent Universal Light Wilson Carneiro de Souza (CEFLUWCS), in honor of Padrinho Wilson who for many years was at the head of it, and in the management of the Colônia.

Today, CEFLUWCS has in its presidency the eldest daughter of Padrinho Sebastião, Maria Gregório de Melo, Madrinha Neves. The spiritual works continue uninterrupted and the door remains open. The fiftieth anniversary is coming up!

In 1996, Padrinho Alfredo returns to his homeland carrying out a request from Padrinho Sebastião: to take the Daime to his family who remained in Juruá. The meeting with the Mota Melo was a historic milestone for the family, as they got to know Uncle Sé’s church.

In the year 2000, Mad Rita returned to Estorrões after 43 years of her departure. She inaugurated the church of Ipixuna – Eclectic Center Raimundo Mota de Melo, Padrinho Sebastião’s brother.

Today we have two churches run by the Mota Melo family: Céu dos Estorrões and the one in Ipixuna, both follow the official Calendar of our Doctrine.

It’s a joy to see that Padrinho Sebastião’s dream came true and the Doctrine is expanding in the Forest.

FROM SERINGAL TO ECOVILLAGE: AN EVOLUTIONARY TRAJECTORY

Over its 40 years, the village has gone through different stages of organization, having achieved many significant milestones.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VILLAGE, A LONG WAY

The search for sustainable development and participatory social organization of the Community went through several stages and plans.

The community organization is a legacy from Colonia Cinco Mil, when Padrinho Sebastião and his followers developed a successful system of common coexistence. The model was transferred to Rio do Ouro and Mapiá. In Mapiá, four years after its founding, in 1987, the Residents’ Association was created.

In 2002, the Community Development Plan (PDC) began, in partnership with WWF/Brazil and other institutions. For two years, residents mobilized together with organized sectors to build bridges between needs and their solutions. This broad participatory process achieved many practical and organizational results.

AmaGaia

Since 2010, a series of participatory and formative meetings on organization and community sustainability culminated in the realization of

AmaGaia, in 2013. The process had the participation of representatives of organizations active in the region, from other surrounding communities, from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), and partners from other parts of Brazil and the world, including the global ecovillage movement.

22
History
Training for sustainable understanding. Forming amagaianos (photo: collection) (photo: Collection)

With direct support from the Socio-Environmental Institute of Viçosa (ISAVIÇOSA) and the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), the objective was to exchange experiences and knowledge, as well as organize Working Groups with action plans for sustainability, in different areas. The process continued in the following years, becoming a program in 2018, with the implementation of several regenerative actions and projects, with the support of the Nova Era Institute (INE).

The Participatory Master Plan (PDP) is an urgent necessity for the consolidation of the Céu do Mapiá ecovillage – built through a broad mobilization in the neighborhoods, in the work sectors (health, education, security, environment, infrastructure , administration etc) and in institutions. Through it, the intention is to regularize land tenure (definition of public and private areas, paths, permanent preservation areas, residen-

tial areas etc.), the creation of our Internal Regulations (laws of coexistence agreed between residents), the indicative of common community policies for sectors and institutions etc.

The PDP was already prepared and started with the re-registration of the population until it was interrupted by the pandemic situation. Now it must go back to the fundraising phase.

OUR NEIGHBORING COMMUNITIES

Fazenda São Sebastião

A Fazenda São Sebastião was acquired by Padrinho Alfredo, with the help of the brother Marcial, at the beginning of the formation of Vila Céu do Mapiá. Francisco Corrente was appointed to manage the newly formed community, with his extensive experience already gained in Colônia 5 mil and Rio do Ouro. In a short time, Fazenda grew and became an important agroforestry production pole, with the implementation of a mini banana processing plant, a lake for fish farming, gardens of Rainha and Jagube and fruit trees.

Today with about 150 residents, the community has its own recently renovated church. And the house of Chico Corrente’s family has been transformed into a Memorial, there is a General Kitchen, a Feitio’s house and a Municipal School integrated with the Cruzeiro do Céu State School (Mapiá). Oh, yes, and it continues to give all the support to the Mapiá’s residents and visitors who stop there, as well as providing food and raw materials for our Sacramento.

Prainha

Experienced farmers used to the Rain Forest life, the founders of Mapiá soon realized the importance of the Purus’ River beaches for planting grains, vegetables and fruits, necessary to supply the village. Again, with the help of the brother Marcial, they acquired an area a little further down the outfall of the Mapiá Igarapé, Prainha Gregório de Melo, starting a colonization there that would make history. Under the leadership of Padrinho Nel, Madrinha Cristina and family, houses, church, school, flour mill and warehouse were built. Good productions were harvested, until a major flood, in 1997, forced a large part of the population to move to Mapiá.

However, the native residents remain in Prainha, next to the neighbors of Praia Dom João. Currently, there are 8 families in the two communities, totaling approximately 35 people. They plant and harvest, supplying Mapiá and surroundings with grains and other foods, without the need for chemical fertilizers or pesticides, taking advantage of the high fertility of these wetlands. Good students, they also do their spiritual work with their own hymns and in-tune singing.

THESE FAMILIES COME FROM FAR

Just like the biblical epics, some families go together, some for more than half a century, becoming one people. The saga of Sebastião Mota’s followers.

In1974, Padrinho Sebastião and his family officially left Alto Santo. After an intense coexistence with Mestre Irineu, he began the spiritual mission to which he was destined, to expand the Santo Daime doctrine, as prophesied by his beloved Mestre. Rita Gregório de Melo, his wife, with a loving temperament and very calm, is the matriarch of the expansion of the Doctrine. They had the children: Valdete, Alfredo, Neves, Isabel, Nonata, Marlene, Pedro, José. Sebastião would

still bring Gloria and form a ‘Corrente’, adopting Iracema.

The colony where they lived was founded by brother-in-law Manoel Gregório da Silva, who together with Cristina Raulino da Silva, would generate: Silvia, Odemir, Antônio Jorge, Rosa, Maria Amélia, Roberval, Rosineide, Rutilene, Carlos Cézar and Sebastião. His sister-in-law Júlia with her children: Maria de Fátima, João Batista, João Evangelista and Maria José Chagas da Silva and

her husband were neighbors. Her sister, Tereza Gregório, Tetê, was also very dedicated to the Doctrine. She was the first to recognize Sebastião Mota as the Padrinho, asking for his blessing. Along with the old patriarch, over half a century, many families would still arrive, not only from the neighborhood, but from all parts of the globe, whose names are being recorded in the books of our history. We visited the community right at the beginning of its installation. Sonia was there in 1983, Susana in January 1985.

Madrinhas Rita, Cristina and Júlia welcomed us with care and attention. They knew that for us southern women, everything was new and challenging. Besides the spiritual orientations, the Madrinhas hosted us in their homes, accepted us as we were, no prejudices, laughing at our ignorance about life in the forest and celebrating our meeting. We were welcomed with firmness and love.

GRATITUDE TO THE WOMEN OF CÉU DO MAPIÁ

Padrinho Sebastião recognized the effort and skills of each one of them. He had profound compassion for their battle, for the violence against them and he valued their dedication. Always working with women and teaching the well living.

With the great transformation that has occurred in Mapiá in these 40 years, these Padrinho’s companions continue to share their strength and dedi-

cation. Today, they occupy positions in the main institutions: Residents’ Association, Forest Medicine Center, Santa Casa (Holy House), General Kitchen, School, Health Center etc.

Women have always performed fundamental tasks for the development of Céu do Mapiá and have built a way of life related to the forest, knowing the nature and its cycles.

THE CATHEDRAL OF THE DOCTRINE OF THE FOREST

Since its resumption, in 2021, the work has been carried out with great care and safety. The transport of more than 137 tons of materials and equipment was one of the great challenges faced in the construction of the Mother Church in Céu do Mapiá.

Viva! This is a moment of great joy and celebration for the community of Céu do Mapiá and all the people of Padrinho Sebastião Mota de Melo. There is very little left for our dreamed temple to be built inside the Amazon Forest. Our House of Prayer, our Holy House, world headquarters of ICEFLU Santo Daime. A grandiose work, full of challenges, and which is being

achieved thanks to the faith and work of many people. A work blessed by our matriarch, Madrinha Rita Gregório, and under the careful eye of Padrinho Alfredo, who regularly follows the progress of each stage.

“Dreaming is a truth, as is daylight”, said Mestre Irineu. And proof of this is the materialization of the community dream of building the

new Mother Church, whose magnitude reveals the size of the spiritual strength that this place, chosen by our Patron, radiates to the entire Planet. “We hope that this church will really be the school of the new world, of the new people, of the new system, and that the youth of this new generation can have another life formation for our beautiful planet Earth”, wishes Padrinho Alfredo.

Care and security

Since the resumption of the work, in August 2021, what has been seen is a work carried out with great care and safety, from planning to execution. ICEFLU hired the Engecampo Engineering company to continue the construction of the cathedral and, after a technical visit to the work, a detailed schedule was established, with four stages – which included inspections and analysis of the condition of the construction, need for structural reinforcements of the “mother ship”, execution of complementary projects, purchase and transport of materials, and an intense period of activities for the construction and assembly of the Church. The forecast is that the construction will be delivered to the community and ICEFLU in the first quarter of this year.

Many natural, civil engineering and logistical adversities

were faced, such as the transport of 137 tons of materials and equipment into the heart of the Amazon Forest: crane, tractors, backhoe, munk truck, lifting platforms, generators, and tons of scaffolding, mortar, cement, paint, sand and gravel. It was necessary to take advantage of the flood season to navigate the Purus River with the rafts and then go up the ravines and take all the cargo to the Fazenda São Sebastião. From there to Céu do Mapiá, a journey of over 43 kilometers on a dirt road. A gigantic operation that involved stevedoring work, freight on rafts and a battalion of people.

The community’s final touch

After the demobilization of Engecampo and external workers, the community will appropriate the work for the final completion, with the application of the artistic and decorative elements of

the Mother Church. A studio was set up in Céu do Mapiá and a young team from the community was formed to develop this work, led and signed by the artist Silvio Galvão.

THE ARCHITECTURAL PROJECT

Find out the details of the architectural design of the Mother Church complex, which, in an aerial view, presents the shape of the Sun, the Moon and a six-pointed Star.

Sun: entrance to the cathedral, where Padrinho Sebastião Mota de Melo, Padrinho Manoel Corrente and Chico Corrente rest. The tombs were resized and covered with marble slabs, special lighting and reflectors were placed, and also a cover to offer thermal comfort. The Flag Square is on the left side and the tombs of Padrinho Manoel Gregório and Madrinha Cristina Raulino, under a decorated metallic gazebo, are on the right side.

Moon: two access ways to the Church, one for men and one for women. The lanes were built in the shape of a new moon. In this area, the handrail and the guardrail were installed and, in the middle, a garden and a space for the bonfire and the gira works.

Star: in the shape of a six-pointed star, the Church is divided into six wings and two floors. It has 5,700 square meters of built area, 18 meters high and capacity to receive more than two thousand people. It gained wide arch-shaped doors on all sides of the building, favoring thermal comfort, in addition to an acoustic system to improve the sound of hymnals.

Wing 1: entrance to the Church, where Padrinho Sebastião’s statue will be installed.

Wing 2 e 6: male and female bathrooms and healing rooms.

Wing 3 e 5: rest rooms for Padrinhos and Madrinha Rita, and storage for chairs and liturgical material.

Wing 4: Daime room and a mezzanine (upper floor) for the band.

Viva o Céu do Mapiá!

Ele, então, desenvolveu cobertura cerâmica protetiva, mantendo a estrela “sempre no brilho”.

THE FIRST ‘SÃO JOÃO’ IN CÉU DO MAPIÁ

Timeruns and the hour passes by, as the hymn says. And more and more we feel this speed in ourselves and in everything around us. It seems like yesterday that I arrived with Sonia at the port of Padrinho’s big house for the first ‘São João’ in Céu do Mapiá, in June 1983. The village consisted of a newly built spacious house, covered with straw. There, at the house, happened the spiritual works and it was also the accomodation for the approximately sixty pioneers who opened the rubber plantation. Beyond that, a warehouse and a few paxiuba houses.

to the whole world. And that unforgettable São João, in June 1983, was the culmination of the installation of the people of Padrinho in what, today, is Vila Céu do Mapiá. The first churches grew and spread across the globe, like the green branches prophesied by Mestre Irineu.

Since then, a lot has happened, many challenges, battles and, also, many accomplishments. We can say that, despite all this, the dream of Padrinho Sebastião is still alive and rooted in the hearts of our people. The difficulties to accomplish it are part of the good fight, material and spiritual, to materialize in our community day to day the learning and discernments of this spiritual school to which we belong.

I remembered that, just the other day, I participated in the making of the magazine for the 20th anniversary of our Vila. Today I’m here sending this little text to its 40th anniversary!

The previous year, it was in Colônia Cinco Mil and Rio do Ouro. The return of Rio do Ouro was the starting point for the expansion of Padrinho Sebastião’s Santo Daime Doctrine throughout the southeast of the country and, later,

All that remains is to thank everyone who started this great work, those who are coming and are yet to come.

MANY BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES

Atthe beginning of Mapiá, Padrinho could hear the roar of the ‘tietê’ engines, hours before the canoes arrive at the village, and we used to set off fireworks along the way to signal to him.

I remember the first church in Mapiá, where the general kitchen is today, and Padrinho commenting with Madrinha Rita that in the hymn ‘Firmeza’ by Mestre Irineu, our doctrine was well revealed.

It was such a joy for me to watch part of the process in which a canoe was crafted from a tree. Padrinho Eduardo had excavated the trunk with an adze. The next phase was the bulging of the canoe and I followed Padrinho Sebastião that day. The canoe was capsized, and a fire was carefully set from below, so that the fire did not lick too much. When the trunk heats up and softens, it is ready to be bulged like a canoe.

The malaria epidemic in which Padrinho Alfredo made a firm decision to heal himself with Daime and herbal tea was a profound and transforming moment, culminating in his healing that paved the way for others to also be healed with Daime.

The Padrinho Mario Rogério’s passage to the astral was a strong moment. He received the first delegations from Mauá and Rio de

Janeiro at his house in Rio Branco and made the first trips to visit the churches in the south of the country, helping to pave the way for all the expansion that followed.

Lucio’s little cottage with a “polyglot” ping-pong table was a reference and gathering point for young backpackers, and it was he who officiated my marriage to Clarice on Saint Sebastian’s day, in 1991, in Mapiá.

In these 40 years, Padrinho Sebastião’s love for the rubber trees, for the Forest and for all of us has been engraved in my heart with many other beautiful memories.

MY MEMORIES OF JAGUBE RADIO

Jagube Radio was inaugurated in 1997, on Saint Joseph’s Day, at one end of the old church. The equipment was a gift from a Spanish brother. Lucio Mortimer soon realized its immense potential and naturally became the “soul” of the radio. With his skills as a good orator, he felt completely at ease in front of the microphone.

With the same enthusiasm, Roberto and Fátima Santágata worked hard to make the radio functionated, especially the operational part.

It was already born an audience leader in the nights of the forest, soon becoming, as Lucio said, “The voice of the mapiense’s integration”.

The program started at 5.30 pm with the “Estação Desembarque”, a program created by Fatima Santágata. At 6 pm, the “Oração” was broadcast directly from the Church. And then came the “Histórinha”, stories told by me and with a wide audience of all ages. Then Lucio, always inspired by the opening of the night program, mixed his words with the “Consecration of the Space” or the “Key of Harmony”.

The nights were very pleasant, you could feel the spi-

ritual force. There were all kind of things: hymnals, calls to organize community work, Friendship Mail, news from the “world” (it was not yet the time of television or the internet), Honesty Campaign, messages. All church works were broadcast live.

Today Jagube Radio is an important information vehicle for ICEFLU, broadcasting in Céu do Mapiá on FM 100.3.

And also, through the website and application, with worldwide reach.

Now is a time for reformulation and alignment of a new team, and we resumed the transmission of works directly from the Mother Church. For the future we have a project to expand and improve the Radio’s operation, always in line with the purposes of our Doctrine.

DIRECT CHANNEL WITH THE FOREST

Canal Jagube is, today, one of the main means of communication in the Community. It was born in 2017, due to the need to connect Mapiá and the world, with audiovisual content in real time, via the internet. With the

support of Arica Film Productions, young apprentices have been recording and transmitting images of community and

religious activities in Mapia all over the planet – through social networks such as Youtube, Facebook, Instagram and SoundCloud. Currently, there are 08 young people being trained and a local coordinator.

JORNAL DO CÉU: COLLECTION OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE VILLAGE

Jornal do Céu was the first publication made in the Vila – at the time, edited by Lucio Mortimer, Maurilio and collaborators (including a cartoon by Glauco). Afterwards, the editions were published when it was possible, becoming an important collection of information and records of community life.

THE LITERATURE FOR OUR IRMANDADE IS STRONGER NOW

Books by Reviver Publishing Company address the universe of Santo Daime.

Inrecent years, Reviver Publishing Company, from São Paulo, launched and relaunched a series of books that supply the Daime community with history and diverse narratives, strengthening the record and memory of this very special Brazilian and Amazonian doctrine.

The Reviver Publishing Company launched Madrinha Maria Eugênia as a children’s author, with her books ‘De Elias a Sebastião’ and ‘A Missão dos Nosso Padrinhos’, with drawings made by young people from Vila Céu do Mapiá and special stories written by our Madrinha from Mapiá. A treasure for children to be able to know the spiritual history of Padrinho Sebastião and the community that formed around him.

that are to be practiced on a daily basis, in our personal and spiritual studies.

And for those who like history, with a chronological narrative that takes us to the moments of the events, the unmissable books ‘Os Incas, as plantas de poder e um tribunal espanhol’ and ‘De Vilcabamba ao Céu do Mapiá” by Fernando Ribeiro, with testimony author’s eye of historical occasions of our doctrine.

Among the re-releases are the famous ‘Bença, Padrinho’ and ‘Nosso Senhor Aparecido da Floresta’, by the esteemed brother Lucio Mortimer; and ‘Santo Daime Cultura Amazônica’, by sister Vera Fróes. Each with its own way of narrating the story they lived alongside Padrinho Sebastião, these are books that should be on the shelf of any daimista.

Another book with an important historic side for the irmandade to learn even more about the spiritual school of Santo Daime is the one by Vó Biná, ‘Costurando os Retalhos’, with special narratives about Padrinho Sebastião, Madrinha Rita, their companions.

The books ‘Pérolas do Eu Sou’ and ‘A Transmutação da Humanidade’, by Isabel Barsé, are excellent guides to understanding the forces that permeate our doctrine and

For 2023, a special reissue of the ‘‘Evangelho segundo Padrinho Sebastião Mota de Melo’ by Padrinho Alex Polari is being prepared. A classic of Daime literature that will have a new design, featuring the words of Padrinho Sebastião.

PADRINHO ALFREDO AND FAMILY REVEAL NOVA DIMENSÃO ON FILM

Documentary produced by Arica Cinematográfica is being recorded since 2018.

From the top of the world...

QThosewho arrive at Vila Céu do Mapiá quickly understand why this place in the heart of the Amazon rainforest is home to so many stories like those narrated in the feature-length documentary ‘Nova Dimensão’.

Mapiá is home to beautiful life stories, of simple people who heard an inner call and, today, brighten the history of the Forest Spiritual School, envisioned by Padrinho Sebastião Mota de Melo. In the film, this story is narrated by his son, Padrinho Alfredo, the main propagator of Santo Daime throughout the planet.

The spectator follows Pa-

drinho Alfredo with his comitiva throughout Brazil and the world. He leads us through words and music, with the testimony of his father’s companions and with the archives of the ICEFLU Documentation Center, which contributes with thousands of photos, articles from newspapers, magazines and videos.

The construction of the Forest Church in Vila Céu do Mapiá is the backdrop for the history of the expansion of Santo Daime throughout the world, led by Padrinho Alfredo and his family, revealing the New Spiritual Dimension. The documentary is produced by

Arica Cinematographic and Reviver Publishing Company, with the support of Nova Era Institute and ICEFLU, directed by Enio Staub and André Pupo, with a script by Ivo Felipe and Giovan Toledo, and photography by Iberê Périssé.

CEDOC – PRECIOUS COLLECTION OF THE HISTORY OF ICEFLU

DSinceI went to Colônia Cinco Mil for the first time in June of 1982, during the trip to Rio do Ouro and the countless trips to Mapiá, I have always been concerned with recording and documenting everything that was within my reach. From this came the documentary of Cinco Mil in 1982, the records of the expedition to Rio do Ouro, the dozens of hymnals and recorded lectures that gave rise to the Gospel of Padrinho Sebastião and the first steps of the first churches.

I started gathering all this collection and also others that have emerged since then.

From the santodaime.org website, we gradually made this material available. The current

collection with thousands of items of inestimable value for future generations in the process of collecting, organizing and making them available. For this we have an important support from Nova Era Institute (INE), and the work of Flávio Ribeiro, Clara Andreozzi and a team of collaborators here in Mauá and in Mapiá.

CEDOC, ICEFLU’s Documentation and Memory Center, with headquarters in Céu da Montanha community, is the culmination of all this work. Today, we have a precious

ICEFLU, THE MOTHER OF OUR INSTITUTIONS

The Church of the Eclectic Center of the Fluent Universal Light Patron Sebastião Mota de Melo is the great hostess of our communities, institutions and organizations.

and, for all these reasons, the confirmation of the Spiritual Matrix of the Church of the Eclectic Center of the Fluent Universal Light.

Itis impossible to talk about Santo Daime without the story flowing into the waters of the Igarapé Mapiá. The process of consolidation and expansion of our Doctrine – from the first works carried out in the Colônia Cinco Mil, the trip to Rio do Ouro and, later, the migration to the place now known as Vila Céu do Mapiá – represents the saga of a spiritual guide incarnated and the people who were inspired by him and, through unrestricted dedication, followed him without looking back.

This epic of the people of Padrinho Sebastião is alive and represented in the rushing waters of the Purus River and in the tortuous paths of the Igarapé Mapiá. Several families who knew the “old Mota” and dedicated themselves, body and soul, to this mission, are repre-

sented on the village’s roads. The families: Mota, Gregório, Corrente, Raulino, Freitas, Brilhante, Nascimento, Nogueira

It should be emphasized that all these spiritual truths contained in the Padrinho Sebastião’s story was recognized by Mestre Irineu when he said: “Sebastião, document yourself”. And only then, in 1974, his spiritual work had its institutional representation confirmed in the foundation of CEFLURIS, renamed in 1997 as ICEFLU. We, represented here as the Administrative Council of ICEFLU, reinforce our deep identity with our headquarters and, on this occasion, we celebrate the opening of visitation to our community, the advances in the construction of our Cathedral and we give Viva to Vila Céu do Mapiá for its 40 years anniversary.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE RAIMUNDO IRINEU SERRA (IDARIS)

The local development agency carries out and supports sustainability actions and regenerative practices in its territory – Vila Céu do Mapiá and communities in the region.

The Village Yesterday, the Dream

The Padrinho’s school has three pillars: the Doctrine, the Community and the Forest.

The Community as he designed it is a field of collaboration and trust with a clear evolutionary purpose: the development of the human being in all its individual and collective dimensions.

Of the three pillars, the Community is the most humane, and it is the balance between the Doctrine and its role in spiritual development and the Forest, our living source of material development.

Padrinho’s vision put our goals at a deep and high level. New human being, new people and new system. The biggest challenge possible, to regenerate the essence of humanity in an individual, collective and systemic way.

For sustainability.

The Village Today, the Reality

The challenge remained for us, to go through the greatest emergency of global systemic crises that threaten the continuity of life, keeping alive the flame of strength and light that our Founder left. With the memory of their practices of respect, care and love for the Creator, for the human being and for the Forest.

Today what the world is asking is how to overcome this dead end that humanity faces. The Padrinho’s answer is clear: Harmony, Love, Truth, Justice, Union and Peace. And for that there must be a profound rebirth of the human being, where the Community is the scenario and the landscape capable of catalyzing the necessary transformation.

The Village Tomorrow, the Hope

Create the conditions and build the capabilities that allow for a path of autonomy and independence. Implement a sustainable and regenerative development process that can reverse the architecture of inequality and exclusion that the hegemonic model of production and consumption imposes on us. A development that places us as caretakers of the greatest divine creation, Life.

The Community’s invitation remains the same as at the origin, to manifest the genuine potential of each one of us, to fulfill the purpose and vocation of the territory.

FOREST MEDICINE CENTER

Research, education and preservation of the health of the forest and its people

The CMF has been developing research into the medicinal use of several native and cultivated species in the Amazon. Currently, the institution has approximately 450 cataloged native species, cultivates around 300 species of medicinal herbs, native and exotic, and has more than 200 herbal medicine formulas based on Amazonian biodiversity and traditional knowledge of the people of the forest.

TheCentro Medicina da Floresta (CMF) originated in 1989, from an initiative by women, always surrounded by young people and children, who focused on the knowledge of the ancient people and the cultivation of their science. In 1997, CMF became official as a civil association. From then on, it expanded its horizons, starting to interact with other social actors, developing partnerships in the Amazon and in the Brazilian and international scenario. Defending the protection of the traditional knowledge and struggling for its legitimization within the society – in order to be able to benefit humanity and guarantee the return of this benefit to the native peoples, according to criteria of equanimity and justice.

From the beginning, the CMF has been dedicated to research, education and preservation of the health of the forest and its people, based on the rescue of traditional knowledge on how to prevent, treat and cure diseases. Always alert to the sustainability of its practices, the CMF prioritizes educational work, training and professionalization of youth. The Center promotes the appreciation and research of nature through popular regional knowledge, notions of permaculture, waste treatment, agroforestry crops (for food sovereignty and production of medicinal plants) and sustainable extraction of native plants (with management plans).

Recently, with support from the Banco do Brasil Foundation, the CMF built a laboratory in its headquarters that complies with ANVISA standards. CMF intends to seek the licensing of the structure and registration for the sale of some of its products, including: sanitizing (incenses, smokers and sprays), cosmetics (clays, repellents and baths) and herbal medicines (with countless possibilities), in order to benefit consumers and contribute to the financial sustainability of the institution.

IN SEARCH OF INTEGRAL, INDIVIDUAL AND COLLECTIVE HEALTH

Since its foundation in 1999, Santa Casa de Cura is the first Spiritual Hospital of Juramidam. It was created in Céu do Mapiá to support healing, both spiritual and material, within the Santo Daime Doctrine. In its 23 years of operation, it has been carrying out its mission of welcoming and charity, not only with people, but also with the many demands of the community: courses, experiences, meetings, assemblies and in recent years it is the space where the works of the Church take place.

In 2019, the Amigos da Santa Casa de Cura Association was created, legally representing the various projects linked to its

activities, in the areas of health, education, agroecology, social assistance, among others.

Even during the construction period, Santa Casa did not fail to serve and welcome the ones in need, often in the house of Clara Iura, one of its founders along with Isabel Barsé and Maria Alice Freire.

The demands are many and to keep this sector running we count on help from the national and international irmandade. With the renovation completed, we will be back to full operation, receiving not only the sick, but also those who arrive to compose the chain of charity and the pursuit of integral, individual and collective health. For this, we rely on the attention of professionals from the local Health Center, and a large network of doctors and

other health professionals who support us.

Our projects for the future are to expand and improve care, sustainability, staff training, home for the elderly, expansion of the Health Center, medicinal garden, agroforestry

and vegetable garden to spread an increasingly better diet as the basis of the health we need for the New World.

SUSTAINABLE AGROFORESTRY PRODUCTION FOR REGIONAL SUPPLY

Agroextractivist Cooperative is based on valuing the standing forest and the people who dwell in it

The Mapiá and Médio Purus Agroextractive Cooperative (Cooperar) was founded in 2003 by residents of Vila Céu do Mapiá. Its objective is to promote sustainable agroforestry production and supply of consumer goods to the residents of the Igarapé Mapiá and Purus River region.

In the first years of its creation, Cooperar implemented a warehouse in Vila Céu do Mapiá, enabling a strong reduction in

the prices of products consumed in the Vila. And also, it developed the production of dried bananas in Fazenda São Sebastião community - later closed due to difficulties of commercialization of the product.

Subsequently, in 2006, wild cocoa production was established in the lowlands of the Purus River, initially exported to Germany and then to other markets. Efforts were also made

to implement a vegetable oil plant in Boca do Acre (AM) and, since 2018, Community Forest Management at FLONA of Purus.

Currently, the Cooperative has 469 members and operates in three Conservation Units and one Indigenous Land along more than 1,000 km of the Purus River. Cooperar represents one of the main initiatives in the region focused on valuing the standing forest and the people who dwell in it.

A SCHOOL IN THE HEART OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

Born as a community school, Cruzeiro do Céu was state-owned and, today, serves all grades.

TheCruzeiro do Céu School, founded in 1986 in Vila Céu do Mapiá, has as its patron Lucio Mortimer – who promoted its implementation in line with the spiritual foundations of the Santo Daime doctrine.

Jungle Club, Instituto Socioambiental de Viçosa, Instituto Nova Era and the irmandade of the United States - which help with the necessities not covered by the state government, such as the construction, in 2018, of four classrooms.

Many generations…

The school was linked to the municipality of Boca do Acre (AM), from 1986 to 1994, and integrated into the municipal network of Pauini (AM), from 1997 to 2001. Its first director was pedagogue Marcos Vicente Trench who, with two teachers, took care of about 30 children.

From 1995 to 1998, the school was maintained through internal campaigns. In 2001, the Secretary of Education of Amazonas established the Cruzeiro do Céu State School (EECC), building a new headquarters.

The school maintains a partnership with institutions of the Daimista irmandade: Fundação Kolibri, Support

Today, the school serves 165 students and offers Elementary School 1 and 2, School Flow Correction Program, High School and Youth and Adult Education. There are 13 teachers, a cooker, two general service assistants, a pedagogue and a director.

Due to its geographical and sociocultural characteristics, the EECC is configured as a rural school. It seeks to increase the offer of comprehensi-

ve education to the community Fazenda São Sebastião, where an annex is located. Its pedagogical organization includes carrying out projects and events in various areas related to education, aiming at improving the quality of teaching and learning, integrating the school with the community and training its educators.

Philosophically, the Cruzeiro do Céu State School is based on a liberating education, in which individuals establish relationships under the aegis of forestry, self-sustainability, and dialogue between education and religion, based on a culture of peace and respect for differences.

RITA: ATTENTION TO THE FORMATION OF OUR CHILDREN

During the pandemic, it was difficult to continue in this room, without sanitary structures and without help from the municipality. Therefore, we had to start to do our school activities in the community places. Currently, the school is operating at Casa de Música Madrinha Júlia.

Our hope for having a school is through the friends and supporters of our community. We already have the project, made by an architect, of a two-room school, simple, comfortable and within the Ecological-Anthroposophical model. This school project will meet our needs.

The campaign for the construction of the Céu do Mapiá Early Childhood Education School will soon be launched - the Jardim da Infância Madrinha Rita!

The Kindergarten Madrinha Rita Gregório de Melo is a Municipal Rural School of Early Childhood Education, for children of four and five years old from Vila Céu do Mapiá –linked to the Municipality of Pauini (AM).

In 2000, through the Vegetal Leather Project, a classroom was built for the kindergarten, on the same grounds as the Cruzeiro do Céu school. Before the stateization of part of the school, there was only one administration, afterwards, Early Childhood Education,

which was left out, continued to belong to the municipality.

The Kindergarten was made official as a municipal school in 2003. In these almost 20 years, the municipality has never built a proper school, although it has already promised to build a small one-room school for over 10 years.

Even so, in a single room, with few resources, both structural and pedagogical, our Kindergarten has always worked and served the various generations of children in our community.

Join our campaign!

Join our construction!

Join our education!

IN SUPPORT OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE VILLAGE

ISAVIÇOSA works through resource mobilization and technical support to enable community initiatives

Sinceits creation in 2007, the Instituto Socioambiental de Viçosa (ISAVIÇOSA) has been supporting sustainable community development in Vila Céu do Mapiá. The origins of this work are even earlier: in 2003, a group linked to the Federal University of Viçosa created the Núcleo de Estudos Pró-Amazônia –NEPAM, with the goal of establishing a bridge between the forest and the university, collaborating with technical support. At this time, Prof. Paulo Stringheta, Pro-Rector at UFV, visited Céu do Mapiá at the invitation of Chico Corrente. On that occasion, Padrinho Alfredo gave his

blessing for the Viçosa group to effectively start their work with the community.

In these almost 20 years of history, there have been many partnerships and achievements, in several areas: collaboration in the FLONA do Purus Management Plan; elaboration and implementation of the Community Forest Management Plan; formation of the Ecos da Floresta learning community (collaborative communication for sustainability); creation of the Amig@s do Chico Corrente Cooperation Network; holding of the AmaGaia course (Education for the Development of Ecovillages); promotion of the

Sustainable Schools course; technical coordination of the AmaGaia Program; mobilization of the meeting of young Heirs of the Padrinho; among others.

Currently, ISAVIÇOSA continues to support various community initiatives in Vila Céu do Mapiá and Fazenda São Sebastião, through the mobilization of resources and technical support, working in partnership with local and regional institutions, in addition to other similar organizations.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL IN INTEGRATION WITH NATURE

The INE develops regenerative projects, supporting socio-environmental actions in the village.

OTheNova Era Institute (INE) is a Civil Society Organization based in Ribeirão Preto, SP. The institution develops and promotes regenerative projects, aiming at a transformation that begins with the development of the individual and the involvement of human beings with nature. The emergence of INE was directly related to the Doctrine of the Forest. Created in 2012, as Instituto Raoni Vilas Boas, in Osasco, the organization changed its headquarters and name in 2019, assuming its current identity.

Consolidating its new format, INE started to directly support socio-environmental community work in Vila Céu do Mapiá. Initially, this happened through the promotion of

projects within the scope of the AmaGaia Program. Participatory and educational processes were then promoted with residents of the community to indicate and carry out priority actions in the four dimensions of sustainability: social, economic, ecological and cultural.

Since 2021, the Institute continued to support institutions operating in the Vila and surrounding area – such as ICEFLU, the Residents’ Association, Cooperar, Santa Casa, among others. It also contributed with projects aimed at sustainability, income generation, food sovereignty, community forest management, social assistance, health, education, communication, culture and memory.

Always seeking to honor the past and nourish the roots of the community, through learning and strengthening its founders and veterans, INE renews its commitment to the future of Vila Céu do Mapiá –represented by young people and children. And it joins forces in the work of building the new world, new people and new era, in this New Dimension.

SHOULDER TO SHOULDER IN THE MISSION OF SAINT JOHN

Churches and Associations around the world have always supported Céu do Mapiá. Some of them tell their story here.

FLORESTA PROJECT, founded in 2009, was responsible for building the General Kitchen, and also supported many other projects and institutions in Mapiá, including: Emflores, AmaGaia, Santa Casa, Centro de Medicina da Floresta, among others. We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to our continued work together.

CEFLURGEM, FHFA and Floresta Project extend heartfelt congratulations to the 40th Anniversary of the Céu do Mapiá, affirming that our spiritual connection crosses the boundaries of time and space.

THE FOUNDATION FOR THE HEALING FORCE OF THE AMAZON (FHFA) has had the honor of supporting the social and environmental projects of Céu do Mapiá for over 25 years. We have joyfully raised funds for Centro de Medicina da Floresta, Cachoeira, Santa Casa, the General Kitchen, CEDOC, the ICEFLU general fund, among others. In the last few years, we formed a partnership with ISAVIÇOSA to support some of these projects and institutions that we want to continue to help.

The ECLECTIC CENTER FOR UNIVERSAL FLOWING LIGHT RITA GREGORIO DE MELO (CEFLURGEM) represents the unification of 38 churches and groups in North America, Canada and Mexico, and recently celebrated its 15th Anniversary. We are grateful to be in the mission of general support to Mapiá community through ICEFLU. We extend specific routine support to Madrinha Rita’s Household as well as the health care and needs of the elders in Mapiá. And, when called upon for fundraising initiatives, we are ready to help.

CONGRATULATIONS, CÉU DO MAPIA!

It is with great joy that Céu da Santa Maria celebrates together with the entire irmandade the 40th anniversary of Villa Céu do Mapiá. It has always been in our hearts and remains there! Our affection for this magical place, that has given us and still gives us enriching experiences of incomparable value.

The value of education and the children are reflected in the Cruzeiro do Céu State School. The Kolibri Foundation was created to collect donations for this purpose. The Santa Casa de Cura is also in our

hearts and we know of the service provided there, with a hand always reaching to help others. The Papai Velho, Mamãe Velha Project: we keep this flame alive to improve the quality of life of the veteran founders of our community in Villa Ceu do Mapiá.

Madrinha Geraldine, known as woman of charity, taught us to plant this ever-growing seed, and now it multiplies, showing its strength!

participated in the associative movement that supports the families of Mapiá. In addition, helps the institutions and projects such as: Santa Casa, the Kindergarten, “Mamãe Velha e Papai Velho”, “Saúde Mapiá” and general campaigns. We wish ever more integration with the forest community, the enchanted place of our spiritual roots and formation. In the hope of organizing again groups of Italians and Europeans to visit our Mother Church.

Since the beginning of the expansion in Europe in the 80’s, the history of the European churches is linked to our Mother Church. Today, the European countries where the Holy Doctrine is more rooted

and spread, are those that have remained faithful to the legacy of Padrinho Sebastião and his community in the forest.

Among them, since the 90’s, the Italian irmandade (gathered in ICEFLU Italia) has always

ASSISTANCE AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AT CÉU DO MAPIA

More than responding to emergencies, the goal of actions and projects is the sustainability of families.

these actions, counting with the project “Papai Velho e Mamãe Velha” developed by Santa Casa, and also with projects supported by the Nova Era Institute (INE). The department also directs attention to the communities Fazenda São Sebastião, Prainha Gregório de Melo and Dom João, where families are in a situation of great vulnerability.

Solidarity Campaign: irmandade’s support

Helping others has always been the aim of Padrinho Sebastião’s Doctrine and Community. Whether through private and collective initiatives of the imandade itself, or through actions organized by ICEFLU, AMVCM, Santa Casa and partner institutions.

Going beyond emergency care is the concern with the social development and sustainability of the families of Céu do Mapiá and surroundings, which, over these 40 years, has been undergoing transformations in the pursuit of fulfilling Padrinho Sebastião’s dream of being a new people, with a new system, which generates the new world.

In this sense, important actions marked this journey, highlighting the Community Development Plan (PDC) which, in 2002, mobilized the entire community in the search for a diagnosis of needs and solutions. And, more recently, the AmaGaia Program put us on the map of Ecovillages, bringing many contributions to community development.

Currently, we are dealing with an aging population, with needs especially in the health area – which consumes a large part of ICEFLU’s resources. And it is through the Social Assistance and Development Department that the institution seeks to better manage

During the pandemic, with the help of the worldwide irmandade, three campaigns ensured food and health care for the population. The search for solutions with public bodies, private institutions and NGOs is constant and constitutes an important goal for the coming years, together with professionals from the third sector.

GENERAL KITCHEN: FEEDING THE COMMUNITY

Anothermapiense institution is the General Kitchen. Present since the days of the Cinco Mil, it has already gone through several headquarters and phases, always providing the meals for the mutirões, the

To the women and men who have always collaborated with our food, our congratulations and gratitude!

COMMUNITY WORK: THE MAPIENSE FORCE

Sincethe times of Cinco Mil, the mutirão (community work) has been the strength of the Community. In these 40 years of the Vila, a lot has been done with the voluntary labor of Padrinho Sebastião’s Monday Mutirão. Men, women, young people and even children participate, improving paths, collecting garbage, building public spaces, planting, harvesting, making the Sacrament, flour and sugar, cooking food, cleaning and preparing the church, taking care of all public and community sectors. Our congratulations and thanks to everyone who has always collaborated!

AGROECOLOGY AND FOOD SOVEREIGNTY PROGRAM

Support for local producers in search of healthy food.

Based on a demand presented by the Community, through the AmaGaia Program, and an articulation of several groups and institutions, the Agroecology and Food Sovereignty Program emerges, which has been developed in Vila Céu do Mapiá and surrounding communities since 2019. Its objective is to strengthen the network of local farmers, enabling greater production, processing and consumption of local products, generating work and income for several families, in addition to the involvement, mobilization and training of young people and women.

The Program has been acting directly in four commu-

nities, through technical support, follow-up in the planning and execution of production activities, transport, processing and commercialization of food produced by the communities, involving more than 40 producing families. Through the Program’s actions, more than 30 tons of different products, including fruits, vegetables, grains and other processed products, have already been produced and sold. The follow-up plan is to increasingly strengthen this virtuous chain of production and consumption of local food, encouraging the local economy, in addition to providing food education, prosperity and health for the communities involved.

Environmental Health Movement

The Environmental Health Movement, born in the early 2000s, is an important form of awareness, education and correct procedures for solid waste management. Today, the initiative is fighting for resources to carry out its project.

Prevenção: a melhor estratégia

“Saúde começa pela boca” – diz o ditado popular. Dra.

BOCA DO ACRE: BRIGHTNESS AND MOVEMENT IN THE IMMENSITY OF THE GREEN

Likeany typical city in the interior of the Amazon, Boca do Acre has its challenges and charms, and arouses interest in many peculiarities, which make it stand out amidst the immensity of the green.

Its emergence on the banks of the Purus River dates back to the last century, when the colonization of the Amazon was driven by the rubber booms and agricultural expansion.

The rubber plantations and the typical way of life of the rubber soldiers gave rise to many habits that last until today. Cattle breeding and rural production also influenced the social, economic and cultural development of the municipality.

It is a region that has, pro-

portionally, the largest cattle herds in the Amazon, and whose economy is driven, in large part, by the export of cattle and trade in dairy products.

A strong trade in the city is supported not only by the urban population, but also by residents of the rural area, and even from other municipalities, such as Pauini and Lábrea, making Boca do Acre a development pole in the southwest of Amazonas.

Beach festivals: leisure and fun in the Amazonian Summer

When the so-called “Amazonian summer” arrives, the beaches become the main leisure option in Boca do Acre. The most famous of them is the “Beach of Cattle”. With the ebb of the Purus River more inten-

se between the months of August and September, the large sandbanks appear, completely changing the landscape along the river.

Some sandbanks measure hundreds of meters, and are used as a public space for beach festivals. A well-diversified program with musical shows, sporting events, food and drinks is set up, attracting thousands of visitors.

The festivals last several consecutive days and the presence of visitors from other municipalities, and even from other states, moves the city. This causes its floating population to increase considerably, with a positive impact on the economy, filling up hotels, restaurants and putting a lot of demand on the service sector.

The city of Boca do Acre grew in the context of the rubber booms and livestock expansion that marked the colonization of the Amazon.

River lake, beauty that nature created

The annual flooding of the Purus River a few decades ago, the erosion of the banks, the silting up of some areas and the change in the course of the river itself ended up forming a lake where the dammed water could no longer leave.

The place soon came to be called “lake of the river” and began to attract the presence of visitors, who went to the place to observe the transformations of the landscape imposed by nature. Soon, someone had the brilliant idea of opening a restaurant on the spot and the river lake became a tourist attraction.

On weekends, many visitors go to the lake, attracted not only by the beauty of the

region, but also by the restaurant’s excellent menu – which includes, among the dishes, the delicious fried Tambaqui fish, a specialty of the house, and the Caipira Chicken, another local delicacy food.

Active nightlife with bars and restaurants

There is also an active nightlife in Boca do Acre, especially on weekends. For those who like to party, there are several options: restaurants, bars and live music.

For big shows, the Caribe nightclub offers the best structure and space for large audiences. Vila Country is another popular club, with live music of various styles, depending on the day of the week.

Main square, meeting place for families

Like every small town, Boca do Acre maintains the tradition of gathering families, friends, and youth on weekends in the main square in the city center – which makes it the spot for the hangouts.

– revelam as sócias.

PRODUTOS CONCEITUAIS

PROJETOS SOCIOAMBIENTAIS E SUSTENTABILIDADE

A ‘Made In Acre’ realiza projetos socioambientais, em parceria com povos originários, comunidades tradicionais e ONGs.

PARABÉNS, CÉU DO MAPIÁ!

(Rayssa e Juliana, sócias da ‘Made In Acre’)

RIO BRANCO - CHALLENGES AND DELIGHTS IN THE WESTERN AMAZON

served hot, which combines herbs such as Jambu and cassava derivatives, the broth is known as Tucupi.

Tacacá: a kind of “soup” of indigenous origin, served hot, which combines herbs such as Jambu and cassava derivatives. The broth is known as Tucupi.

Anyone

who goes to Rio Branco for the first time, whether by car or plane, is somehow surprised. Starting with the fact that getting to the capital of Acre is an exercise for the strong ones, or for those who are really willing to face the challenges and charms of the Western Amazon.

The capital of Acre is also a mandatory stop for Brazilian travelers who want to reach Bolivia and Peru by car or motorcycle. Acre is located in the border region between Brazil and these two countries. From Rio Branco to Bolivia, it’s about 100 km by road, and to Peru it’s about 300 km. The Andean influence on the lives of Rio Branco’s residents is seen in cuisine, ethnicity and even the economy.

City tour escapes the traditional

With a good infrastructure of hotels, a shopping mall, some stores, squares, parks and diverse tourist attractions, the city offers the traditional tour of gastronomy, shopping and entertainment, but it goes beyond that.

If the hot and humid climate for most of the year calls for a cold meal, nothing better than native açaí, with a stronger taste than that served elsewhere in the country, preferably adorned with almonds typical of the region.

But if it’s a night of torrential rain, which is common in the Amazon, Tacacá is the best choice. The meal is a kind of “soup” of indigenous origin,

There is no shortage of places to enjoy these delicacies, but in Praça da República, in the central region of the city, typical food kiosks offer these and other dishes, which can be tasted in a peaceful, wooded and easily accessible environment.

In local markets it is possible to find natural açaí.

The westernmost capital of the country, the city is the gateway to the deep Amazon

Abundant nature, even in the urban area

The abundant nature that permeates the capital of Acre is an invitation to immerse yourself in the green of the forest. Places such as the Chico Mendes Environmental Park, on the outskirts of the city, the Tucumã Park, in the noblest region of the capital, or the Forest Garden, in the central region, are true islands of virgin forest, where visitors can feel the pleasure of being in the middle of the “jungle”, but with absolute security.

Trails in the forest and adventure tourism are gaining more and more followers

For those who want more adventure on the tour, the option of taking a trail in the forest is a good choice. Visiting alternative communities, or even climbing trees with professional guidance are also interesting options. These and other activities can be booked at @destinoacre, where the traveler can count on a company specialized in this service.

Culture and leisure in the central region

Culture and leisure spaces always guarantee a “plus” for tourists. In the central region of the city, on the banks of the Acre River, where Rio Branco was born, the traditional Old Market has a local handicraft fair, several regional food options, musical shows, bars etc. All in a perfect setting, where you can see a large stretch of the river cutting through the city, with its bridges and footbridges that give an air of modernity to the central region of the capital of Acre.

Gateway to the deep Amazon

With an estimated population of around 500,000 inhabitants, reasonable logistics infrastructure, and a relatively advanced service sector for the standards of the North region, Rio Branco has become, in recent decades, a pole of economic and social development.

In this way, Rio Branco exerts great economic, social and even geopolitical importance for the Amazon, being the westernmost capital of the country. The city is a kind of guardian of the border region, in addition to being the main reference for the 17 indigenous ethnic groups existing in Acre.

Céu do Mapiá

ENXERGUE O MELHOR

ZARAY: MODELOS EXCLUSIVOS

Atendimento local, regional e nacional

Parabéns, Vila Céu do Mapiá!

A escolha certa

Victor e Roseany Pontes sabem disso.

Vida longa à Vila Céu do Mapiá!

DIBUTECO PIZZA & CHOPP

Estamos falando do Dibuteco Pizza & Chopp.
