THANKSGIVING DAY
We all know the story about the Pilgrims and how they first celebrated Thanksgiving back in the early 1600s. But actually, native peoples in North America held dances and rituals long before that as a way to welcome in a good harvest for the season. As the years progressed, many forms of these autumn harvest celebrations took place and it wasn’t until 1863, when Abraham Lincoln was president, that November 26 was officially proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day.
Today, Thanksgiving is a time to gather with friends and family to celebrate all we are grateful for. And while we may not be welcoming a harvest, seasonal foods and recipes are definitely the stars of the show with a cornucopia of traditional dishes and flavors gracing the tables of people all across the country.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients: 2½ lbs potatoes (Yukon gold or russet) peeled and cubed, 2 tbsp garlic powder, 1 tbsp garlic salt, 1/2 cup cooking cream, 4 tbsp butter, Himalayan salt and pepper to taste
Instructions: Boil potatoes until soft. Drain, mash (with electric hand blender), and add butter, cooking cream, garlic powder, garlic salt, and himalayan salt and pepper.
