America in the early 18th century. Fleeing religious persecution, these Protestant & Catholic Irish landed in Boston, bringing their faith and traditions with them. The first North American observance of St. Patrick’s Day was recorded in 1737. In the decades following, this emerging IrishAmerican community in New England pledged to aid the new waves of Irish immigrants fleeing economic hardship and famine plaguing their homeland.
