TRAVEL GUIDE

TAKE IN NEW SIGHTS, SOUNDS AND FLAVORS THIS NATIONAL TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK!

MAY 19-25, 2024

WHAT IS

NATIONAL TRAVEL & TOURISM WEEK?

From vibrant beaches to serene countrysides, there’s a lot to see in the United States. Not to mention, each state is full of different cultures and cuisines from all over the world. It’s no surprise people love to explore the U.S.! That’s why the U.S. Travel Association established National Travel and Tourism Week in 1983. Since then, May 19-25 has been dedicated to celebrating and educating people about the joys of traveling from sea to shining sea.

National travel enriches everyone, visitors and locals alike. It comprises a $2.8 trillion industry that supports nearly 15 million American jobs, impacting manufacturing, health care, agriculture and nearly every other sector of our economy – including wireless services like Ultra Mobile.

So if you’re headed to one of the great American cities like Los Angeles, New York or Chicago, we’ve got you covered – in more ways than one! Read on to hear our Account Executives’ Ultra-food and entertainment recommendations in major cities across the country.

LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA

With Harout Gezalyan

In Los Angeles, you can find dishes from across the globe just by crossing the street. Many cultures call L.A. home, but no other culture has shaped L.A.’s food scene more than Mexican cuisine. We asked Account Executive Harout Gezalyan about his favorite Mexican food spots as well as his favorite activities to do in L.A.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GO-TO RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MEXICAN FOOD IN LA?

Casa Vega is a classic Mexican staple for L.A. Check it out! 13301 Ventura Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN YOUR CITY?

I love catching baseball games at Dodger Stadium and watching basketball at Crypto.com Arena. But for something more calm, I like to pick up new books at The Last Bookstore. For an artsy night out, snapping photos at Urban Light at LACMA and taking in the views at the Griffith Park Observatory is always a good time. And in the daytime, you can’t go wrong with a beach day! I like Manhattan Beach and the Santa Monica Pier, personally. People-watching on Hollywood Boulevard is also a great way to pass the time.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WISHED OTHER PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR CITY?

The original name for Los Angeles was “El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río Porciúncula.” In English, that means “The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angels of the River Porciúncula.”

NEW YORK

NEW YORK

With Linda Chan & Keith Yeung

From top-floor fine dining to underground street vendors, New York has something for everyone’s taste. Across the city, stoves fire up recipes from far away; and in Chinatown, chefs prepare hand-pulled noodles and other traditional dishes passed on for generations. With the largest Chinese population outside of Asia, New York has the best Chinese food in the world. We asked Linda and Keith for their favorite spots.

WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHINESE FOOD IN NYC?

LINDA: Y Space BBQ

KEITH: Growing up in a Chinese household, I’ve never found a restaurant that serves Chinese food as good as homemade cooking. I guess love is a secret ingredient. However, I do enjoy going out and eating other Asian cuisines, such as Khao Soi from Pad Thai House (Brooklyn), Korean Fried Chicken from Mad For Chicken (Queens), Spicy Miso Paitan from Zurutto (Manhattan), or Korean BBQ from San Soon Kap San (Queens), just to name a few. NYC is a melting pot, so every train stop will transport you to another country!

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN YOUR CITY?

LINDA: Going to dim sum on the weekend or walking in Central Park with my dogs.

KEITH: One of the advantages of living in NYC is that something is always happening. I really like to take advantage of the seasons. In the summer, the beaches are nice for lounging around and soaking in some sun. In autumn and springtime, the mountains are picturesque for enjoying scenic hikes. And the winter months are great for skiing. But no matter the season, I enjoy hitting local breweries with my friends!

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WISHED OTHER PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR CITY?

LINDA: How good the food is!

KEITH: New York has the best hockey team in the NHL. Let’s go Rangers!

CHICAGO ILLINOIS

With

Oscar Roman

What does Chicago have in common with Poland? Winters are cold, and lots of Polish people live there – two million to be exact! Eating Polish cuisine is part of living in Chicago. There’s no shortage of places in the Windy City to get an order of freshly made perogis. Traditional Polish dishes always draw a crowd, so we reached out to Oscar to learn more.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GO-TO RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR POLISH FOOD IN CHICAGO?

Staropolska Restaurant! Located at 3030 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618. I always recommend the delicious Sampler for 2, the potato pancakes, an order of pierogi, the stuffed cabbage, any sausage, the bacon-wrapped dates and the chicken.

Podhalanka is also worth a mention. Located at 1549 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60642. The potato and cheese perogies are hearty and delicious.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IN YOUR CITY?

Stand outside one of the world’s tallest buildings at The Ledge! It’s an all-glass balcony at Willis Tower’s Skydeck Chicago. You should also splash alongside the larger-than-life Chicagoans at Millennium Park’s Crown Fountain. And don’t forget to take a selfie with Cloud Gate, a.k.a. “The Bean.” And of course, eat Chicago pizza… and lots of it! Decide for yourself between deep dish and tavern-style. You need to pile at least seven toppings on a Chicago-style hot dog… it’s the only way.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WISHED OTHER PEOPLE KNEW ABOUT YOUR CITY?

Chicago’s nicknames include The Windy City, City of Big Shoulders, The Second City, The White City and The City That Works. In 1933, Major League Baseball’s first All-Star Game took place at Chicago’s Comiskey Park.
