Did you know World Refugee Week begins June 18? Each year the Refugee Week Organization chooses a theme to highlight an aspect of the refugee experience. 2024’s theme is “Our Home”. In a time when many are displaced, “Our Home” aims to make others feel welcome within new communities. Here’s how you can join in the worldwide celebration to honor the contributions and resilience of refugees.
Let’s tap into the powerful connection of food. Recipes are intertwined with personal stories, giving us a taste of a culture’s history. The Refugee Week Organization recommends trying new recipes to deepen our connection and appreciation of cultures besides our own. And you can always aid those temporarily displaced by donating to a food bank. Find your closest one here
The Refugee Week Organization encourages people to seek out refugee stories. Whether through books, poems, podcasts or films, exposing ourselves to new stories is a powerful way to understand the refugee experience. We linked a great resource for you to discover powerful fiction and non-fiction refugee literature and media.
Posting about World Refugee Week on social media is simple, yet impactful. The Refugee Week Organization encourages you to raise awareness with the orange heart emoji “ ”, along with the hashtags #RefugeeWeek, #SimpleActs and #OurHome. Starting these conversations with your friends creates a deeper, personal connection to this important cause.

Meet the Activate Crew!
Have you ever wondered what goes into creating an Activate edition? From researching engaging topics to designing custom illustrations, our creative team focuses on making each Activate as Ultra as it can be. Meet Grady Raymer.
Grady will walk you through his inspiration behind this June’s Activate.
I’m Grady Raymer, the Senior Director of the National Field Team (the people who visit our amazing Retailers). I’ve had this position for almost 8 years. My favorite thing about my job is that it enables me to travel across the United States and experience various cultures in different cities.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not working on Ultra Field Sales?
Traveling with my wife. We go to a lot of different music festivals, Regional Burns, while being out in the AMAZING outdoors, available right here in the U.S.
What inspired you to choose “World Refugee Week” for Activate?
I think more people need to understand the bravery that’s required of someone to leave their home country. I was inspired by the stories of the families who arrived at Ellis Island at the beginning of the 20th century. Risking the unknown, they came with nothing but a few belongings. Often, they didn’t even speak English. It’s important to share refugee stories like these and understand that they persist to this day.
What does the World Refugee Week theme “Your Home” mean to you?
Home is wherever you are proud of and feel safe enough to establish your roots.
Is there a food that reminds you of home?
MAPLE SYRUP!!! Being from Canada, I think maple syrup goes with everything. One can even pour maple syrup on snow and eat it like a popsicle.
