PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I am sure you may be wondering why this month you are not seeing the photo and letter from Sharon Covington who served as President of the RBCC Board for the past couple of years Sharon’s term as Board President concluded this weekend at the Annual Meeting. At the first meeting of our new Board, I am happy to share that I was elected to serve as your Club President for the next year I’d like to thank Members of the Board for their vote of confidence in electing me I would also like to thank Sharon for her leadership over the last two years as the Board and Club took on a number of important initiatives Sharon also instilled in all of us here at RBCC the importance of kindness and compassion We are fortunate to have Sharon continue to serve on the Board for another two years.

For those of you who don’t know me I wanted to share with you a little about myself I was born and raised in New York just outside of the city in Westchester County. I retired from the Walt Disney Company after a 40-year career working at ABC which is part of Disney I started as a college intern working my way up through the company to serve as Senior Vice President of Disney ABC Sales. I led the strategy and sales efforts of the sales team in New York. I was fortunate to truly love my job, the company and the people I worked alongside

My wife, Beth, and I have been Members of RBCC since 2003. RBCC has been part of our life for almost 40 years. We had our wedding reception in the Bayview Room in 1988 and my wife’s parents were RBCC Members Long before I became a

Member, I took golf lessons from Ron Barrows and Butch Holtzclaw when they were on the golf staff. It was Ron who encouraged us to become Members; I am most appreciative to him for that!

Beth and I officially became Delaware residents a few years ago – we live in Dewey Beach on the same street where Beth spent her summers as a child She has a lot of family in the area We still have a place in New York for us to visit our family and friends there. We have two grown children – Carolyn who lives in Boston and Michael who lives in New York City

Over the past few months there have been a number of events celebrating RBCC’s Centennial culminating with the Gala on Saturday, August 2 which was nothing short of spectacular It was an extraordinary night throughout the entire Clubhouse from the décor, food, acrobatic performances, a band that had everyone dancing and even an appearance by Elvis wrapping up the night with a fireworks display and drone show! The Talon Tribe out-did themselves by hosting a night we will always remember.

As we wind down our centennial celebrations and move into the next 100 years of RBCC, the Board and management team will continue to stay focused on the great member experience we all enjoy. In the next couple of weeks, the Board will be getting together for a one-day retreat to set our agenda for the next few years As you heard at the Annual Meeting, one of our priorities is to address the

long-term impact of water and drainage issues on the golf course. You will be hearing more from the Board about this in the coming months as we gather additional information The Board is also updating the Club’s Strategic Plan; many of the initiatives in the 2024 plan have been achieved and we will be adding in new initiatives Reviewing our governance procedures and updating the Club’s Bylaws have been an ongoing priority for the Board; it is our hope to finalize those documents this year. In all that we do as a Board, we will remain committed to maintaining good communication with Members and strong fiscal responsibility as we address the current and future needs of the Club.

I look forward to serving as your President and building on our successes

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE

memories); the Clubhouse will maintain current hours, though we’ll shift from bustling summer nights to a packed wedding calendar. September and October are set to be filled with celebrations sometimes one, two, even three weddings in a single weekend!

across multiple committees to her leadership of the Centennial Committee, Karen’s contributions have left a lasting mark.

FAREWELL TO A REMARKABLE SEASON & HAPPY LABOR DAY!

As summer winds down and Labor Day is here, we want to take a moment to reflect on what has been one of the busiest and most unforgettable seasons in RBCC history Thanks to your continued support, we not only reached new heights in Member engagement and activity, but also broke several records along the way.

From the buzz of summer camps with laughter from children reunited with “old” friends and making plenty of new ones, to the Frances Tiafoe’s event and the unforgettable Centennial Gala that brought us all together in celebration of 100 years of community, tradition, and progress, this season was truly one for the books

As we transition into fall, a few seasonal changes are on the horizon: Golf Course Aerification will take place in early September, requiring a brief closure to ensure the continued health and quality of our greens; the Pool will close for the season in mid-September (we hope you’ve enjoyed every sunny day poolside and made plenty of splash-worthy

This summer also marked significant milestones within our community. We celebrated Terri’s retirement, honoring her 10 years of dedicated service to our racquets program Under her leadership, the racquets community has flourished creating friendships that extend far beyond the courts. Though she's stepping down, Terri will continue to be part of our RBCC family as an Honorary Member. We’ll share more reflections on her remarkable decade in the coming months.

At the Annual Meeting this past weekend, we shared the Club’s strong financial position and reviewed year-to-date successes We also previewed initiatives for the months ahead, including a refreshed Strategic Plan, a deeper look at Operational Dues, prioritization of upcoming capital projects and more.

The Golf Course Architect, Joel Weiman, concluded the meeting with a thoughtful presentation on the course’s current challenges and long-term preservation strategies. Stay tuned for upcoming focus groups and town hall meetings as your input will be vital as we move forward

We also confirmed the new Board. A heartfelt thank you to Karen Schneiderman, who concluded six years of dedicated service From her work

We also extend gratitude to Sharon Covington, who passed the gavel to incoming President John Caruso She will continue to serve on the Board, and I’m personally thankful for her advice, patience, and collaboration over the last two years, especially her patience.

Lastly, we’re thrilled to welcome Stephen Fennell to the Board. He has already provided thoughtful (and legal!) guidance behind the scenes, and we look forward to working more closely with him in his new role

There will be no Coffee with C this month, as the Annual Meeting served as our indepth seasonal update. However, the Annual Survey will be sent out soon. As always, your feedback is invaluable it helps us measure success and guide improvements.

Keep an eye out for new events as we enter what we lovingly call “The Locals’ Season” a quieter, cozier time now that the summer bustle has passed, and traffic is finally moving faster than 10 mph.

Thank you for making our Centennial Season such an extraordinary one Let’s keep the momentum going and write the next great chapters together.

Wishing you and your family a safe, restful, and joyful Labor Day.

SUPERINTENDENT’s UPDATE

The run out to the end of the summer has been great, and even though they don’t look as good as they can, the greens have consistently been stimping over 12ft every day and exceeding the USGAs requirements for its championship conditions. It’s hard to believe that it is aeration time again! The fall aeration is scheduled right after Labor Day. Over the last three years I have been testing the physical characteristics of the greens rootzone to see how they are performing and to see how comparable they are to each other. The goal is for consistency – if one drains less than another or say has more organic matter, it means it will play softer than ones that are good and therefore need different management practices to try and keep them consistent. The more consistent we can make the soil, and the turf as mentioned above, the easier it will be to maintain consistent healthy turf all season, not just on one hole but across the entire property.

Right now, the plan for aeration is similar to last fall and spring. We plan to use the same size tines as we did for those. This will be followed by Dryject (to disperse sand through the profile and firm it up), topdress and then brush it all in. We will be overseeding with 007 bentgrass which will help fill in the bare spots. If all goes to plan, they should be fully back up to speed within a couple of weeks and provide excellent surfaces for the remainder of the season.

All discounted Member category restrictions end on September 15.

LOTTERY

The last weekend for the tee time lottery system was Labor Day weekend.

BEING A STEWARD OF THE GOLF COURSE

We are asking our membership to be sure that they are fixing their ball marks, replacing their divots, and raking the bunkers. Over the second half of the summer, we have noticed a lack of consistent course care for standard practices. Please help us to keep the course is great shape for all of the Members.

FLOODING FROM STORM ERIN

There was flooding on Hole 16 from Erin from the tides alone which come in from the culverts on the streets.

HOLE 19 WORK

We are adding new bunker sand to match the course and removing the tall fescue around the green and replacing it with low cut bermudagrass.

ART SHOW ADDITIONAL ARTIST

RBCC’s very on Talon Tribe Member will now be featured at the Art Show!

Dwayne Johnson

My name is Dwayne Johnson and I am from Jamaica in the Caribbean. I am a still life, land and seascape artist. Using oil and acrylic paints, I started to paint in the year 1995, and I've been practicing on my own ever since. In my community I've been painting randomly on t-shirts, fishing boats, signs etc. Painting comes naturally to me because it runs in my family. My inspiration for painting these is to develop my artistic skills after only receiving my high school degree. I currently work in the back-of-house at RBCC in the summer season.
