May 2025
In May, Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System proudly hosted the 25th Annual Mildred Rhoades Diabetes Prevention Walk, a milestone event marking a quarter-century of raising awareness and building community around diabetes prevention. This year’s walk brought together families, friends, and advocates from across the region to honor lives affected by diabetes and to reaffirm our commitment to healthier futures for all.
As participants walked the familiar route, many wore ribbon pins in blue, yellow, or white—each color representing a personal connection to the cause: living with diabetes, supporting a loved one, or remembering someone lost. These powerful symbols served as a reminder of the purpose behind every step taken.
The walk continues to stand as a tribute to Mildred Rhoades, whose personal battle with diabetes inspired the very first event 25 years ago. Her legacy lives on in the strength and unity of our community, which remains dedicated to both supporting those living with diabetes and preventing new diagnoses through education, access to care, and wellness initiatives.
We are grateful to all who joined us for this special anniversary walk. Your presence and continued support are helping pave the way for a stronger, healthier community—one step at a time.
The Redding Rancheria had an incredible time at the Chicks N Chaps Breast Cancer Event on Friday, May 17, 2025. We proudly support such a noble cause. Chicks ‘N’ Chaps Redding is an amazing organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families in our local communities who have been impacted by breast cancer—all while celebrating the spirit of rodeo and the western way of life. We are honored to stand alongside them in this mission.

We celebrated Win-River Resort & Casino’s 32nd Anniversary in style with both the Anderson Chamber of Commerce and the Redding Chamber of Commerce, as we hosted their Greeters Meetings. We are truly appreciative and grateful for the support that the Anderson Chamber and Redding Chamber bring to our home. We have collaborated with them for a majority of our existence! From sharing and supporting our causes, and doing, whatever it takes to serve those in need. They provide value to local business with their expertise and passion for serving the community! Thank you for collaborating with us to build a better future for our home! Here is to another 32 years of celebrating together.
On Monday, May 12, 2025, the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System proudly participated in Project Homeless Connect, held at the Redding Civic Auditorium. Our Case Managers, Kasey Martindale and Dove Jeude from our Recovery Department joined more than 60 other agencies in offering support and vital resources to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in Shasta County.
Our team distributed informational materials about the wide range of services available at Redding Rancheria, along with harm reduction supplies, like Narcan, Fentanyl test kits, Xylazine test kits, hygiene kits, and blankets. These items, while small, represent the larger goal of empowering individuals with tools for wellness and dignity.
Project Homeless Connect is a one-stop, collaborative outreach event designed to connect individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with essential services. This annual event brings together local providers to offer onsite support such as ID assistance, housing referrals, employment and education resources, legal aid, children’s services, medical and dental care, food, hygiene supplies, and more—all at no cost to participants.
In past years, Project Homeless Connect has helped over 1,000 community members take meaningful steps toward stability and long-term housing solutions. Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System is honored to be part of this compassionate initiative and remains committed to serving our community with respect and care.

In recognition of Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women (MMIW) or Murdered and Missing Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Day on May 5th, Redding Rancheria wore red as a unified show of support and remembrance. Redding Rancheria also sponsored the MMIW/MMIP Walk organized by Tribal Member, Danita Quinn that started at Redding City Hall and went to the Redding Rancheria Community Center, to raise awareness about the cause. Many gathered on this long trek along 273 holding signs and painting their faces with a red handprint, a symbol of this movement.
This day of recognition shines a light on the epidemic of violence that disproportionately affects Indigenous communities, particularly Native women, girls, and Two-Spirit people, who experience some of the highest rates of assault, abduction, and homicide in the United States and Canada. Many of these cases go unreported, unsolved, or overlooked. By wearing red on this day, we join a growing effort to raise awareness, advocate for systemic change, and honor the lives and legacies of those who have been lost. Thank you to all who stand in solidarity and help keep this issue visible in our community.
National Scribe Week is May 18th – 24th. You may wonder what a scribe does while your provider is focusing on you during your doctor’s appointment. Scribes allow the provider that one on one time with you as the patient, so you feel heard and understood. Thank you to our scribes for all that they do to help patient care run smoothly.
On Wednesday, May 14, Redding Rancheria hosted the third annual Native American Heritage Night at the Redding Rodeo Grounds—an evening that brought culture, community, and celebration together under the arena lights.
This annual tradition, made possible through the continued sponsorship of Redding Rancheria Tribal Council, honors the deep roots of Native peoples in the region and the Tribe’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships with the broader community. The event was open to the public, and Redding Rancheria was deeply grateful for the overwhelming support from the crowd.
Tribal Chairman Jack Potter Jr. offered an opening prayer, followed by Tribal Elder and Councilman Leon Benner proudly carrying the Redding Rancheria flag into the arena. Dove Jude of the Mono Lake Paiute Tribe delivered a stirring rendition of America the Beautiful in her Native language, setting a powerful tone for the evening.
Miranda Edwards Favorite welcomed the audience in her regalia and served as emcee for the cultural dance demonstration, which featured over 50 dancers. The music and dancing were incredibly well-received, offering the crowd a vibrant and respectful display of Indigenous culture.
Native American Heritage Night not only celebrates culture but also strengthens community ties. Redding Rancheria is proud of its continued partnership with the Redding Rodeo Association, which has also graciously hosted the Stillwater Pow Wow in recent years. The dance demonstration at the rodeo serves as a preview and invitation to this year’s Pow Wow, scheduled for Friday, October 3– Sunday, October 5, once again at the rodeo grounds.
We are thankful to everyone who joined us for this memorable night, and we look forward to seeing you again in October!
Happy 32nd Anniversary to Win-River Resort & Casino!
What an incredible journey it has been! We had the honor of celebrating with our Tribal Members—sharing laughter, delicious food, and the excitement of so many fun drawings. It was more than just a party; it was a reminder of the strong sense of community and history we’ve built together over the years.
From our humble beginnings to where we are today, it has been a privilege to grow alongside this amazing team and our Tribal family. Here is too many more years of success, memories, and shared traditions. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this legacy.
The Head Start students got the chance to run wild as cowboys and cowgirls at this year’s annual Stick Horse Rodeo! In order to prepare for this event, children worked alongside their families to create their very own stick horse. Ready to show off their mighty steads, each child got dressed in their best western attire for a lively parade down Redding Rancheria road. Afterwards, the students got to show off their fancy foot skills by running barrel races on the Head Start campus! A fun highlight for spectators was the “wanted poster” wall, which displayed all of the kid’s photos and a silly reason behind why they were an “outlaw”.
Stick Horse Rodeo is not just about having a good time; it is also a wonderful opportunity for family involvement and creativity to take place. As families headed home, our school cook treated everyone to a delicious BBQ pulled pork sandwich, making this day a perfect start to summer. We are so thankful to everyone who was able to share in the laughter and camaraderie that this event inspires. We cannot wait for next year’s rodeo – yeehaw!
