Pinwheels for Hope

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month— a time to reflect, to remember, and most importantly, to act. Each blue pinwheel you see planted this month represents a reported case of child abuse in our local area. It’s a sobering visual reminder that behind each pinwheel is a child who needed protection, support, and healing. The pinwheel has become a national symbol of hope.

We are deeply grateful for Raising Shasta and their unwavering dedication to building safe, nurturing environments for the children of our community. Their advocacy, education, and prevention efforts are changing lives — one child, one family at a time. In solidarity and support, the Redding Rancheria Tribal Office and Win-River Resort & Casino have turned their lights blue for the month of April — a beacon of awareness and commitment to protecting our most vulnerable.

Let the sea of blue pinwheels inspire us not only to acknowledge the problem, but to be part of the solution:

• Learn the signs of abuse and neglect

• Speak up when something feels wrong

• Support organizations like Raising Shasta that are on the front lines

• Build strong families and safe communities

Together, we can turn pain into prevention, and awareness into action. Let’s make sure every child has the chance to grow up safe, loved, and free from harm.

United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Peoples Forum

As a Pacific region representative for the National Congress of American Indians, Chairman Jack Potter Jr. had the honor of attending the 24th annual United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Peoples Forum in New York City driving meaningful connections and fostering collaborative growth with the Assembly of First Nations and many other indigenous nations.

Thank you Chairman, for proudly representing Redding Rancheria and the National Congress of American Indians everywhere you go.

But the festivities didn’t stop there! Each of our classes also took a special field trip to the Week of the Young Child Event hosted by Far Northern at the Win-River Resort & Casino’s Event Center. The place was transformed into a giant playground of discovery and adventure — packed with dinosaurthemed activities, races, scavenger hunts, and so much more! It was a non-stop celebration of creativity, learning, and pure childhood joy. This is always one of the most anticipated events of the year, and it definitely did not disappoint. We are already counting down the days until next year’s celebration!
