Redding Rancheria’s Discover Health Fair

On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Redding Rancheria turned the Win-River Resort & Casino Events Center and Redding Rancheria Community Center into a lively hub of wellness, learning, and community spirit for our Annual Discover Health Fair!

Nearly 100 health and wellness vendors, arts and crafts creators, and food artisans filled the space with color, energy, and inspiration. Guests took advantage of free health screenings offered by the incredible staff of the Redding Rancheria Tribal Health System, everything from diabetes prescreens and blood pressure checks to body fat analysis and more. We also partnered with Vitalant for an on-site lifesaving blood drive, collecting 11 pints. Thank you to every donor who rolled up a sleeve to help save lives!

But it wasn’t just about checkups, it was about celebration! Native American dancers graced the stage with vibrant performances, KIXE brought beloved characters-Clifford the Big Red Dog and Elmo to spread smiles, and the crowd cheered as the Stormtrooper Ranch marched in with galactic style.

By the end of the day, more than 300 guests had received health screenings, and hundreds more left with new knowledge, fresh inspiration, and happy memories. The 2025 Discover Health Fair was more than a success, it was a celebration of health, community, and the joy of discovering new ways to live our best lives!

Dr. Mohamed Khan, MD

Cardiologist

Dr. Mohamed Khan, an Interventional Cardiologist and Peripheral Arterial Specialist with an interest in hypertension, was born in South Africa. After graduating as valedictorian, he was awarded a full academic United Nations Scholarship to pursue a career in medicine at the esteemed University of Alexandria in Egypt, where he graduated in 1983.

Dr. Khan’s mother, who had diabetes, lost her battle to heart disease at a young age, only 52 years old. Motivated by this personal experience, Dr. Khan focused his attention to cardiovascular disease. He received his cardiovascular fellowship training at the UC Davis Medical Center. Along with his colleagues at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South, Dr. Khan pioneered a “hands-on” fully accredited peripheral arterial disease interventional training program. Through the program, he trained over 1,000 physicians in the art of intervention and peripheral arterial disease.

In 2001, Dr. Khan was one of only 194 physicians throughout the United States and Canada to be designated as a clinical hypertension specialist. He is recognized as a lifetime member of the American Registry of Outstanding Professionals.

Amongst numerous academic and humanitarian awards, his proudest accomplishment was in 1991, when he founded a free medical clinic in honor of his mother, which is now affiliated with the UC Davis Medical Center.

Tribal Member HighlightTyler Hayward

Tribal Member paramedic, Tyler Hayward, was recently awarded a field save pin for his recent work in saving a patient’s life. Hayward was able to successfully resuscitate the patient that was in cardiac arrest.

A Field Save pin, awarded by American Medical Response (AMR), is a recognition given to paramedics who achieve what is known as a “field save.” A field save occurs when paramedics respond to a patient who is technically dead, unresponsive, not breathing, and without a pulse, and are able to bring them back to life using their advanced life support training. Field saves are rare events, but when they do happen, they highlight the critical value of having well-trained paramedics on the scene.

The Field Save pin serves as both an honor and a symbol of the lifesaving difference these professionals make in their communities.

Tribal Member HighlightMichael Potter

Tribal Member Michael Potter has been awarded a CILA (California Indian Law Association) scholarship! He is a law student at UC Davis and serves as Vice President of NALSA and a board member of the Tribal Justice Project. Michael and his wife are raising their two children with intention and care. He is building a career grounded in Tribal sovereignty, cultural preservation, and intergovernmental advocacy.
