I. THE FIRST PENTECOSTAL DAY - In 1491 BC. Moses was grazing the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, at the foot of Mount Horeb, or Sinai. An angel appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush and ordained him to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. Pharoah rebelled against the mission of Moses and great trouble came to Egypt. God sent ten (10) plagues upon Egypt by the hand of Moses, one following the other. When the proper time came for Israel to leave, God gave Moses full instructions for making preparation to leave Egypt. They were to kill a lamb. “And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts, and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it”, (Exodus 12:7). The angel passed over the houses where the blood was sprinkled, but in the houses of the Egyptians that did not have the blood, the first horn was slain. “For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night and will smite all the first born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and against all the gods of Egypt. and the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you”, (Exodus 1213,14). 2. THE PASSOVER - This feast was instituted by God to commemorate the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and the sparing of their first-born when the destroying angel smote the first-born of the Egyptians. The Passover only applied to the Paschal Supper. The Passover as a Type. The Passover was not only commemorative, but also a type. The Paschal Lamb must be regarded as the leading feature in the ceremony of the festival. The lamb slain typified Christ the “Lamb of God”, slain for the sins of the world, (1 Corinthians 5:7). Forty-seven (47) days after Israel left Egypt, they were camped at the foot of Mount Horeb, or Mount Sinai “And the Lord said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people might hear when I speak with thee and believe thee forever...”, (Exodus 19:9). “.. Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes”, (Exodus 19:10). “And be ready against the third day, for the third day the Lord will come down in sight of all the people upon Mount Sinai”, (Exodus 19:11). “And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and Iightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled”, (Exodus 199:16). In Exodus 20 God gave Israel the ten commandments.
