THE CANDLESTICK OR LAMP-STAND

There is a correspondence, or connection, in the giving of the law which is celebrated by the feast of Pentecost, and the crucifixion of Jesus (the Lamb of God)
which took place at the Passover, and the descent of the Holy Ghost which happened at Pentecost.

3. BAPTISM. A BURIAL - “And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and the sea; (1 Corinthians 10:2). they were baptized into the covenant of which Moses was the Mediator; and by this typical baptism they were brought under obligation of acting according to the Mosaical precepts. Christians receiving Christian baptism are said to be baptized into Christ and are thereby brought under obligation to keep the precepts of the Gospel. “Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” (Romans 6:4).
4. RESURRECTION - “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection”, (Romans 6:5).
5 THE TABERNACLE IN THE WILDERNESS - Exodus 34- Moses is again on the Mount.
He had been on the mount 40 days and nights the first time, (Exodus 24:18). Exodus 34:28 - lie now returned for another 40 days and nights. The first time he had received the two tables and the specifications for the Tabernacle Now the two tables are remade and the covenant renewed.
Exodus 35 -40 - The Tabernacle built according to the directions given in chapters 25 - 31, are here repeated.
6. THE COURT. This was the fence around the Tabernacle - 150 feet long and 75 feet wide facing the East. Hangings of fine twined linen 7-1/2 feet apart with fillets and hooks of silver and in sockets of brass. The gate, 30 feet wide, was in the center of the East end and made of linen - blue, purple, and scarlet.
7. ALTAR OF BURNT OFFERINGS. The great altar was for the sacrifice of the animals. It was 7-1/2 feet square, 4-1 2 feet high, built of Acacia boards covered with brass and it was hollow, to be filled with earth. There was a ledge around it about half way up for the Priest to stand on. It was placed East of the Tabernacle, near the entrance of the Court. The fire of it was miraculously kindled (Leviticus 9:24) and never went out (Leviticus 69). Its position at the threshold signified that sacrifice stands at the entrance of man’s approach to God, and a “shadow” of the sacrificial death of Christ.
8. LAYER. A giant brass bowl, to hold water, for the Priest to wash their hands and feet, before ministering at the Altar, or in the Tent. ft signified cleanliness, literally and from sin. “Shadow” of the cleansing from sin by the blood of Christ, perhaps also of baptism, the initiatory rite of entrance into the Christian life
