Methodology

We developed our own 6 Step model based of the IHI Model for Improvement

Tools

For our 6 Steps to QI, we have a toolkit containing information and templates to guide Staff along the methodology…

We have been exploring ways to reach more colleagues across our Trusts 3 sites by developing digital resources and having more of a physical presence on all sites…

Barriers…

• The big bad C word…. COVID!

• Team redeployment (regrouping)

• Morale (compounded by current political environment)

• Exhausted workforce

• New ways of working (remotely and no physical location)

• Constant conflicting priorities

• The “NHS” pace

Lessons Learnt

QI MOMENTUM TAKES TIME!

• Networking is incredibly useful and key to learning!

• You must appeal to hearts and minds

(More time than you could imagine!)

• Go with your grass roots workforce! They have the passion, knowledge, experience…

• It helps to have Executive backing and/or involvement to keep the QI agenda front and foremost

• Start small and achievable!

• Make yourselves available! (no matter the challenge – engaging with anyone interested helps promote QI and your offer)

So, what's next for us?

• Internet and Intranet sites

• Patient Safety Framework

• Patient Involvement

• System QI and Collaborative Working

• New ways of reaching colleagues and developing resources (podcasts, videos, digital resources)
