World Space Week Report 2020

With great succes, inspiration and dedication from all participants the World Space Week Benelux (Belgium, Luxembourg and The Netherlands) was finished sucessfully. As we as National Coordinators from those 3 countries, decided to join-forces and collaborate with eachother working on those events (mostly online). Experts we engaged with ranged from students, teachers and entrepreneurs in the Space industry. Next to that also in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is an upcoming industry in many aspects of our lives, think in terms of data transfer, navigation, communication and security.

In total we had about 150 attendees who where participating online at our event.

NASA Space Apps Challenge Since its inception in 2012, NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge has become the world’s largest global hackathon, engaging thousands of citizens across the globe to use NASA’s open data to build innovative solutions to challenges we face on Earth and in space.

Space Apps inspires local communities to come together, think intensely, and create solutions to important problems. Each year, Space Apps engages thousands of individuals in cities around the world to work with NASA’s open source data in a 48-hour sprint. Teams of technologists, scientists, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, and others collaborate to answer some of the most pressing challenges on Earth and in space.

On October 2-4, NASA is inviting coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists, and technologists to come together in a global, virtual hackathon.

During a period of 48 hours, participants from around the world will come together to create virtual teams and solve challenges using NASA’s open-source data. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of our global community’s health and safety, this year’s hackathon will be an all-virtual event. In other words, all local events will be moved online. In this unprecedented time, the Space Apps community exists as a reminder that we have the tools and talents to tackle the challenges that face our planet, as well as the ability to unite across boundaries and borders of all kinds.
