Puerto Rico National Holiday On November 19, Puerto Rico celebrates the day of its discovery by Christopher Columbus.

Ramey Job Corps also celebrated this National Holiday!

Our students and staff made this holiday an unforgettable one. To kick off the activities, our Special Education Instructor had her students sing the Puerto Rico National Anthem as part of Special Education Month.

Our Culinary Arts Trade students made traditional Puerto Rican food that included Lechon (Pig Rous). Students had on display typical things from Puerto Rico created by them.

Our History Instructor, Spanish Instructor, Driver’s Education Instructor and Math instructor took the lead in the logistics of the activity and event. Our Technical Trade Instructor displayed antique tools like an antique coffee grinder. The participation, preparation and engagement of our students was a site to see. Students dressed up with the traditional Carnival Clothing and to finalize the event, we had a traditional “Batucada” where students and staff participated by dancing to the rhythm of the drums “Bomba y Plena” - “Happy Puerto Rico Discovery Day.”

Exercise and Games Day On November 5th, the HEALS Committee carried out its “Exercise and Games Day”. The socializing between the students and staff was framed by raffles, music and fun competition between teams.

For the first time in a long time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had an outdoor event. It promoted physical health and stress relief for our students and staff. Job Corps promotes a healthy lifestyle and healthy co-existence. Congratulations!

HEALS Centers are required to establish a Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyles Committee to oversee and coordinate by the HEALS program.

Senator Migdalia Gonzalez Visits Center On November 5th, Senator Migdalia Gonzalez visited the Ramey Job Corps Center. Senator Gonzalez chairs the “Western Development Commission,” which has jurisdiction over all matters related to the government programs of the peoples in the region. During her visit, she was given information about our program and the benefits youth can receive. The Senator pledged to be a helping hand to our Job Corps program and to collaborate for the benefit of our students.

RAMEY SUCCESS STORY… When Ricardo Agosto joined Job Corps in 2019, he had a clear and precise goal of becoming a professional on hospitality services and find a job on the mainland.

During his tenure at Job Corps, Ricardo demonstrated to be a dedicated goal-driven individual. As soon as he finished his Culinary Arts

trade, he was referred to the Career Transition Services department for job search who helped Ricardo land a job at the Mountaintop Golf & Lake Club Hotel in the state of North Carolina.

Ricardo has been employed by them for more than seven months now and its very happy and proud of

being able to fulfill his dream.

Careers Begin Here!

Ramey New Arrivals On October 6th, we welcomed a new group to Ramey Job Corps. On this occasion they were received by our staff and Ms. Patricia Lankford, Vice President of Job Corps for Equus W0rkforce Solutions.

Likewise, on November 2nd, new students arrived from the eastern and metropolitan area along with their recruiters/ counselors Waleska Nieves and Rebecca Vega.

Our Students from the Culinary Arts Workshop presented to the community of San Antonio in Aguadilla with their delicious creations in an activity of the “San Antonio Renace” held on October 30th!

BACK TO BACK: RAMEY A TOP PERFORMING CENTER The Ramey Center continues to perform with in the Top Centers in the Nation. This past November, at the Equus Leadership meeting, Ramey Center Director Osvaldo Ubiñas received the top performance award for a second year in a row. “It has been difficult times, but I have been Blessed with one of the best staff, students and leadership teams,” said Ramey Center Director Osvaldo Ubiñas.

On December 2nd, the exam unit of the Department of Education of Puerto Rico was offering the High School Equivalency exam at our center. Seven of our students took the exam. Passing it can earn you your High School Equivalency Diploma. We Know They Will!
