Ramey Fostering a Positive Experience Success Story
Antwone Román, 18, is a participant in the Youth in School program of our Local Area Conexion Laboral Noroeste.
In May 2021, Antwone visited our offices (Conexion Laboral Noroeste), interested in receiving our services. During the initial interview, Antwone shares that his Academic Progress report was deficient in basic skills and that he had to repeat the tenth grade. Our team identified specific skills where the youth needed reinforcement. Antwone successfully participates in a work experience activity, which provides direct links between academic learning and job learning.
However, his story does not end there. Thanks to the follow-up efforts of our staff, we realized that Antwone did not return to school. Quickly, we oriented him on the importance of completing his secondary education and referred him to the Ramey Job Corps Center of Aguadilla. Antwone enrolls in Job Corps in the Auto mechanic Trade and resumes his high school education.
In September of 2022, Antwone met all the necessary requirements and earned his High School Diploma and Auto Mechanic Technician Diploma at the Ramey Job Corps. Today, the young man is in the process of fulfilling his dream of working as a mechanic.
That is what our work is all about. To give our fellow citizens the necessary tools to open the way towards that long-awaited future. To open channels of communication between workers and employers, to create connections that promote the economic development of our region and Puerto Rico.
