6th Annual Battle of the Brews triumphs with strong community support

The 6th Annual Battle of the Brews was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of over 700 attendees.

This year’s event saw a fantastic collaboration between numerous breweries, vendors, and dedicated volunteers from the Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society and 93.7 JR Country. Their combined efforts raised significant funds for youth initiatives in Surrey, including Athletics 4 Kids, aiming to break down barriers and ensure that every child has the opportunity to engage in sports.

A special acknowledgment goes to the beverage partners who contributed to the event’s success: Backcountry Brewing, Barnside Brewing, Dead Frog, Driftwood Brewing, Five Roads Brewing, Four Winds, Granville Island Brewery, Hoyne, KPU, Locality Brewing, Mariner, Moody Ales, Parallel 49, Red Truck Beer Company, Russell Brewing, Stanley Park, Trading Post, Wayback Brewing, White Rock Beach Beer, and Nude Beverages.

Equally important were the food vendors who delighted attendees with their offerings: The Mad Greek, Taste of Heaven Gourmet Sausages, Cheez², and Crema Ice Cream. Community unites for a remarkable year in the fight against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

Rob Gill and Tanya Gill extend their heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors, volunteers, friends, family, and the entire community for their incredible support in this year’s fundraising initiative for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This annual event, held in memory of their beloved son Azaan and all other infants who have tragically lost their lives to SIDS, has achieved remarkable success once again.

The outpouring of support has been overwhelming, with the community coming together to raise

both awareness and funds for SIDS research at the Pathology Research Institute at BC Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the collective efforts of all involved, this year’s campaign has surpassed its fundraising goal, marking a significant achievement in the ongoing fight against SIDS. As donations continue to be received, the final total will be updated and shared with the community. This success underscores the strength and unity of the community in addressing this crucial cause.

Rob and Tanya Gill express their deepest thanks to everyone who contributed, helping to advance important research and provide hope for families affected by SIDS. Your dedication and generosity are making a meaningful impact.

Surrey Food Bank celebrates success of 2nd Annual Sher E Punjab Food Drive

The Surrey Food Bank is delighted to announce the outstanding results of its 2nd Annual Sher E Punjab Food Drive. This year’s event saw remarkable support from key sponsors and community partners, contributing significantly to its success. The event was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of Applewood Auto Group, which donated $2,000, and HP Singh Chatr Mobile, which provided $1,000. Additionally, Sirka Restaurant played a crucial role by donating 250 samosas and over 250 cups of chai.

In terms of food and financial donations, the drive collected more than 1,000 pounds of food and received substantial cash contributions. This follows a highly successful inaugural event last year, which raised over $3,800 and gathered more than 2,600 pounds of food. The event was energized by the popular Sher E Punjab RJs – Mandeep, Sukhi, and Dr. Romana – whose involvement was instrumental in engaging the community and driving the drive’s success. The Surrey Food Bank extends its heartfelt thanks to all contributors and participants, and looks forward to building on this success in future events.

Surrey Food Bank is celebrating a flourishing new partnership with Guildford Town Centre and MicroHabitat Urban Farming. The shopping centre’s rooftop has been transformed into a vibrant urban farm, bringing fresh produce directly to those in need. Guildford Town Centre’s General Manager, Janna Vohora, shared her enthusiasm: “We are delighted to see our farm blooming with a delightful mix of flowers, herbs, veggies, and fruits. Each week, our harvest will make its way to the Surrey Food Bank and support our local community.”

This innovative project, featuring a 30-pot urban farm, is expected to yield over 300 pounds of produce annually. From Swiss chard and kale to tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, the farm provides a diverse range of fresh, nutritious food. Diego Oliveira, Surrey Food Bank’s Events and Digital Communications Coordinator, expressed gratitude for the partnership:

“Our clients will be thrilled with the fresh produce.
