INSPIRING WOMEN TO FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE

Inspirational Women, Mortgage Express and Centre for Women’s Economic Safety joined forces earlier this month to support Australia’s inaugural Economic Abuse Awareness Day by hosting an educational webinar. Irene Green opened the event with a passionate plea for women to create independent wealth via investing in real estate. “I bought my first property when I was 18 and always knew it would be my journey to financial independence. I often speak at Inspirational Women events about starting young to build independent wealth. If you have your own money you have choice. Where you live. Who you live with. What you do with your life.” Australian Mortgage Express CEO Vicky Divine shared practical budgeting tools to start saving and how to navigate the world of finance and get into property investment. The final address was a powerful one by CWES Founder, Rebecca Glenn, which included some of these powerful remarks: • “Experiences of economic abuse have immediate and long-term consequences for survivors. In Australia, 63% of women in high financial stress have a history of economic abuse. • A lack of financial means is one of the main reasons women stay with an abusive partner, or return to them. • Without economic safety, it is very hard to maintain any other form of safety or wellbeing. It is therefore essential that we address economic abuse as part of broader efforts to reduce and prevent domestic and family violence.” Showcasing our Inspirational Women live event in Tasmania followed by our online Real Life Recipe we had the pleasure of hearing Selena Elphinstone of Harcourts Burnie speak. Selena told us how to “accept the help of others as it is a gift to both and when you are about to give up, try one more time”. These events continue to remind us how the lessons learned by our own people are so relevant and powerful for us all. Thank you to every one of our speakers for having the courage to share their personal journeys. We look forward to having more of these events in 2022. It’s that time of year again - to holiday and have fun with family and friends. Due to popular demand Pauline will be releasing our annual Inspirational Women Holiday Season Guide, this year with a few new twists! It’s our way of saying thank you for all the support you have shown us this year. Stay safe and we will see you in the New Year.
