PRO 8, OTHER AGENCIES JOIN FORCES IN A COMMUNITY OUTREACH IN CATUBIG

amp Ruperto K Kangleon, Palo, Leyte – In line with the objective to strengthen the institutionalization of sustainable peace and development, Police Regional Office 8 (PRO 8), together with the different National Government Agencies and other partner stakeholders joined forces in the conduct of a community outreach program at Brgy. Hitapian, Catubig NorthernSamar on January 13, 2021.

Notwithstanding the ongoing weather disturbance in the area, the seven (7)-hour drive from Palo, Leyte to Catubig, Northern Samar; 30 minute-sea travel via motor banca; another 30 minuteland travel via dump truck, and a two-hour walk in a muddy rice field before reaching the aforementioned remote barangay, PBGEN RONALDO F DE JESUS, Regional Director, PRO 8, took part in the said activity, which is also in relation to the conduct of Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP). In partnership with the Office of Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, represented by Ms. Marjorie Jaranilla, Presidential Consultant; Dir. Karl Caesar R. Rimando, CESO III, Regional Director, Department of the Interior and Local Government 8 (DILG8); Dir. Lord Byron Torrecarion, Regional Director, Office of the Civil Defense 8 (OCD8); the endeavor aims to bring government assistance closer to the communities and foster stronger ties with agencies working inter-relatedly towards the same vision. A total of 450 relief packs, 400 Jollibee food packs; 450 face shields and masks; 300 boxes of hygiene kits; one (1) box of Vitamin C; ten (10) iPod tablets; and ten (10) bicycles were distributed to 300 recipients of the said activity. More and more rebels are now becoming aware of the opportunity to get back to the fold of the government away from deception and lies,” RD DE JESUS said.

Rocky Bontog, a 44-year old fish vendor, married and a resident of Tagos, Matalom, Leyte, fell in an encounter with the operatives of Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office (PPO), in coordination with Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)

The subject tried to evade arrest but was cornered at Brgy Tawid, Maasin City. Bontog was pronounced dead after engaging in a shootout with the operatives. PBGEN RONALDO F DE JESUS, Regional Director, confirmed that 12 pcs of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu were seized from the suspect amounting to Php10, 000.00. Meanwhile, Lucio Abarcar y Abadiano, listed as High Value Individual (HVI), was neutralized in a buy-bust operation at Brgy. 2, Salug, Catbalogan City Samar, launched by the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit 8 (RDEU8); Catbalogan City Police Station, Samar PPO; PDEUSamar PPO; and Regional Special Operations Group 8 (RSOG8). The suspect opened fire against the arresting team which eventually led to an armed confrontation and resulted to instantaneous death of the subject. Recovered in the crime scene were one (1) unit of cal. 45 loaded with four (4) pcs of cartridge and one (1) chamber load; 18 pcs of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu, weighing around 30 grams, with an estimated value of Php 300, 000.00. “Our anti-illegal drug campaign remains to be a topmost priority. We will see to it that these operational efforts we consistently launch against the identified drug personalities will result to the elimination of the drug menace in the region,” RD DE JESUS said.
