in the late 1800’s. The epic struggle between good and evil brought to life with a score by Frank Wildhorn and book by Leslie Bricusse. The story follows Dr Henry Jekyll, a scientist working on splitting good and evil in mankind so to destroy all bad that happens in the world. However when Dr Jekyll’s proposal for use of a human subject is rejected by the Board of Governors, Dr Jekyll takes fate into his own hands and performs his experiments on himself. But something goes wrong and in the process he accidentally creates an alter ego of pure evil known as Mr Edward Hyde. Now Dr Jekyll has a race against time to find a cure and stop Mr Hyde before he gains full consciousness and control over them both. The show leads you through a mix of emotions, terror and personal torment. Your Will & The Family Home For most couples their home is their largest asset. The thought of it ending up in the wrong hands on our death or our partner’s death is horrifying. Most couples own their homes as ‘Joint Tenants’. This means that when one dies, the survivor automatically becomes the owner of 100% of the property. The majority of couples who have made Wills, have simple Mirror Wills which gift everything to the survivor when the first spouse dies and then onto the children on second death. There is nothing wrong with this type of Will. However, the disadvantage comes should the survivor remarry, suffer bankruptcy or need long term care. If the survivor remarries, then marriage automatically revokes previously prepared Wills. This means that the new spouse would inherit under the Intestacy rules if the surviving spouse did not make a new Will for the benefit of your children. If the survivor fell out with any of the children, there is nothing to stop the survivor cutting them out of the Will after the first spouse passed away. This is particularly relevant when there are children from previous relationships.

Tenants in Common If the way the home is owned is changed to ‘Tenants in Common’ and your Will is changed to include a Life Interest Trust. Then whoever dies first, their share in the property is protected and the interest is ring fenced for your intended beneficiaries. If you would like a free consultation to discuss making a Will, Lasting Power of Attorney or Estate Administration please call 01275 851056 or email nicola@richardsons wills.co.uk

Writing a will is preparation for the inevitable but Lasting Power of Attorney is more of a safety net. If you begin to lose your mental or physical capacity and you’re no longer capable of making your own decisions, the Lasting Power of Attorney ensures that your affairs are looked after by someone you trust. You can nominate friends or family, or someone that you trust to act for you, should the circumstances arise.

The Willows Cats Hotel Open Evening

Open Mornings

The Willow Cats Hotel would like to invite our 2 legged customers to celebrate their 1st anniversary on the evening of 5th July from 6pm onwards. If you don’t know The Willow Cats Hotel yet and you’d like to have a look around it while helping us with a drink or two, munching some nibbles or perhaps having a little kebab from the bbq, do join us! The hotel is owned by Benji the Boss, a shorthair black cat, but managed on a daily basis by his human InJa (with the occasional help from her partner Rob). The hotel is located in their home backyard, which means your furry companions are never ‘alone’ from humans or from their chickens who are laboriously pecking nearby! The TWCH is fully licenced by the NorthSomerset Council and has been granted a rating of 4 STARS, the maximum achievable for premises open for less than three years. Come and join us to celebrate our first year! So, see you on 5th July! Meow for now!

St John the Evangelist Church, Queens Road, Clevedon will be holding Open Mornings on Saturdays – 29th June, 27th July and 31st August 10.00am-1.00pm. This wonderful church designed by William Butterfield will be open the fourth Saturday in every month (as above), so do go along and join them to view the unique architecture of the building, by the same architect as the chapel at the National Trust property Tyntesfield. They will be serving tea, coffee and light refreshments, as well as selling religious gifts and books.

Rabbiting on About Rabbits – Care Advice from W&T Vets 1st to 9th June is Rabbit Awareness Week so we thought we should hop along and let people know some important considerations for bunny owners. Sudden Death in Rabbits There has been a rise in the number of sudden deaths reported in our pet rabbit population. Although we cannot confirm the cause, it may be related to an outbreak of VHD2 (rabbit viral haemorrhagic disease) in the local area. The Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund has released the following advice surrounding this possible disease outbreak: “There are two strains of rabbit viral haemorrhagic disease known as VHD1 and VHD2. Both strains are lethal and you must vaccinate to protect your rabbits. Both strains are spread by direct contact with infected rabbits, or indirectly via their urine or faeces. The viruses can survive for months in the environment and survive the cold very well. Vaccination is very effective and the only way to be safe.” As a practice we currently offer VHD2 vaccination as part of our rabbit ‘Gold

vaccination package’. This package also includes an annual vaccination against VHD1 and myxomatosis. Rabbit Flystrike Flystrike (or myiasis) is a potentially devastating condition, common during the summer months, in which a blowfly lays its eggs on the rabbits skin, usually around the back end. This condition can unfortunately be fatal within 24 hours. Following important preventative actions can help reduce the risk of Flystrike: l Regularly removing dirty litter/bedding to keep the rabbits’ environment clean l Ensuring your rabbit is not overweight so it can clean itself adequately l Keeping any wounds on your rabbit clean and dry l Booking a consultation with one of our vets if your rabbit has any problem with urination or defecation, arthritis or any other problem which prevents it from grooming itself adequately l Thankfully, there is also a product to help reduce the risk of your rabbits developing Flystrike. This can be applied to the rabbits’ backend every 8-10 weeks during the at-risk season and works by preventing the eggs laid by flies from turning into maggots. For more rabbit information please discuss with us – www.watkins-tasker-vets.co.uk

Summer Reading Challenge North Somerset Libraries are looking for volunteers to help with the running of the annual Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge aims to give children aged four to 11 an enjoyable activity to complete during their summer holiday and prevent any dip in literacy that may occur during the long break from school. This is a short-term volunteering opportunity between 13th July and 7th September 2019. This year’s Challenge is called “Space Chase” and is inspired by the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Volunteers talk to children about the books they have read, help children choose books and hand out rewards. Flexible volunteering sessions are on offer and full training will be provided. Anyone aged 14 or over can volunteer and people do not need to have any previous experience of volunteering or working in a library. Further information, as well as an application form, can be found at https://northsomersetlibraryvolunteers.wordpr ess.com/ If you have any queries please email library.volunteers@n-somerset.gov.uk or ring 01934 426 657 / 01275 888 864.

Slimming World Last year, 2018, I experienced post surgery complications and ended up returning to Hospital. My surgeon advised me that my weight was an issue, I would need to see a specialist and would need further surgery resulting in being signed off work for a further 3 months. I felt devastated and frightened. I was so surprised but realised I needed some help so I joined Slimming World. I found a group on a Monday evening 7.30pm which fitted in really well. I was very nervous but the lovely consultant Pauline made me feel at ease immediately and the wonderful members welcomed me. I stayed every week to image therapy and enjoyed having the support of the other inspirational members. I also enjoyed never feeling h u n g r y, being able to

eat so much food and eat chocolate and drink wine and still lose weight. Amazing! When I saw the specialist I had lost one and a half stone and was given the wonderful news that due to my weight loss, I had reversed the damage and would not need further surgery. I told the specialist I loved him, he looked disturbed when I tried to hug him. Losing weight has changed my life, I feel fabulous, I sleep better, my mood is better, I have more energy and I have saved the NHS money plus the icing on the cake, I have dropped two dress sizes. I still have another stone to lose and I would like to give back the suport I have received, I couldn’t have done this without SW. Is Your Body Dealing With Stress? Your body is amazing! It is constantly protecting you from perceived danger by encouraging you to either flee the danger or fight (fight or flight). While historically you needed this response to help flee from sabre tooth tigers, in present day society it is often not the most appropriate response to

the situation! Nowadays we can’t deny the BUSYNESS of life and the constant overloading our senses with info, rather than running from predators! This is a continuous on-going stress that often isn’t triggered by danger or a lifethreatening situation, and is increased by poor nutrition, a less than perfect sleeping regime, or emotional stress. Chronic stress can result in long-term damage in the body, causing physical symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, lower back pain, digestive problems, inflammation, weight gain and hormone imbalance.as well as general wear-and-tear. Did you know that chiropractic can help with your stress levels? This stress causes tension, tension builds and builds, and eventually that results in pain in various parts of the body When a chiropractor aligns your spine, that tension is released, the body is relaxed, and the literal physical stress on the body is reduced. Additionally, when the spine is aligned, the central nervous system is unblocked and can function effectively. This means that your mind can think more clearly, and your body functions much better. Take full advantage of our OFFER below to see if we can help lighten your spine!

Clevedon Hits the Screen Again North Somerset is once again set to feature in the TV in a major new Jane Austen adaptation heading for ITV1. After the award winning Broadchurch, our local area and surroundings will be used to recreate coastal scenes for an eight part adaptation ‘Sanditon’. The Production Company Red Planet are looking for coastal and seaside locations and it seems that Clevedon, Sand Point and Uphill fit the bill to recreate the fictitious resort of Sanditon to set the scene for Austen’s final novel, written months before her death in 1817. Around 50 film shoots take place in the North Somerset area annually, resulting in a significant benefit to the visitor economy. Watch this space for more details.

Waves of Harmony Ladies’ four-part a cappella chorus, Waves of Harmony, have been established in Westonsuper-Mare since 2011 and have sung in public many times. This year they decided to enter

the Highbridge Festival of the Arts and have won the class they entered with a distinction, with the adjudicator impressed by their ‘engaging performance’. The ladies are looking forward to participating at other festivals and venues throughout the year and are extremely excited to be staging their own concert in October. Chorus chairman Sue Jenkins always welcomes new members from the North Somerset area, so if you love to sing, have fun and make new friends, check out their website www.wavesofharmony.co.uk or find us on Facebook or ring 01934 642806.

Tributes Paid to Local Rotarian After Brave Fight Clevedon Yeo Rotary club are devastated by the loss of one of their founder members following his battle with cancer. Chris Morris, passed away recently just prior to a fundraising concert that he had organised to raise funds for Cancer research UK. Chris was well known locally as the owner, with his wife Maggie, of Bay View Nursing home in Clevedon. He was also a past President of the Rotary club that he had been a member of since its formation. He had been awarded a prestigious Paul Harris award by the Rotary organisation for his fundraising efforts. A full and active member of the club, Chris’ latest fundraising idea was a concert by the famous Caerphilly Male voice choir in aid of Cancer Research UK. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and the wider Clevedon Community where he spent so much time and effort raising funds and helping charitable causes.

Toy Soldiers Provide Funds for Charity

build was completed, however, she continues to raise awareness and funds for the charity in his memory.

Charities are often donated some very special or quirky items. During the end of last year, Mandy Parsons from Clevedon saw some interesting Christmas decorations being given new homes and thought that local charity, Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) would benefit from them. The items in question were two life-size soldiers and they used to be part of the Hawthorns’ Christmas decorations during Mandy’s time as Manager of the retirement home. They had been a part of the Hawthorns family for over 20 years and have been beautifully maintained by the team over the years. Unfortunately, due to new management it was felt that a different approach needed to be made on how the Hawthorns Clevedon was to look during the festive period and so they were kindly donated to CHSW to find their forever home. The soldiers were bought back in 2006 by Terry and Marie who were the original managers of the Hawthorns and were taken to CHSW’s shop in Glastonbury where they featured in the town’s Frost Fayre before they were sold for £500. Mandy was first made aware of the charity by her mother and father during the build of Charlton Farm. Mandy’s father died before the
