A Song to Saint Nicholas

John Gabriel Dela Torre

Oh, Saint Nicholas—patron of children, of juveniles, Protect us from those hostile hands, And guard us o’er the menace touch.

Oh, Saint Nicholas, hailed from Myra, a Roman town, Watch us from the divine above, Grant thy relief to the youthful sprouts So, we could flourish with thy tender love.

Oh, Saint Nicholas, To thee, we always heed, we always trust For we beseech thy perpetual guidance.

Behold—our sincere devotions are not enough. Oust—the demons that are lurking us. So, we shalt wake, so we shalt act.

It is the power of society that shalt save a child From the coercion of a dreadful arm.
