Kim’s Corner Home. Not in our lifetimes has our home been more important to us. It’s always been our sanctuary, but now it’s our workspace..daycare..school…gym. Living rooms have become classrooms and exercise studios, dining room tables double as office space and video conference rooms, and kitchens are restaurants serving 3 meals a day. Some bedrooms have become quarantine rooms where we care for our sick loved ones and try not to get sick ourselves. Home is where we shelter in place. Home is the best place to be to keep ourselves, our families, and our communities safe. Our home has become everything to us, and we’ll never look at them in the same way again. COVID-19 has also tested the mettle of our communities. It’s brought out the best of us with front porch happy hours, afternoon car parades, sharing of food and supplies, organizing food delivery for our front line health care workers, and making sure our elderly are safe. It’s also brought out the worst in some folks…I’m looking at you toilet paper hoarders.. As I write this, I am warm and dry, and my family is safely sheltered. I can’t help but think of those who aren’t. I hope you’ll consider a donation to helping the more vulnerable among us with a contribution to Jewish Family Service. You can find them online at jfssd.org, or see the link in my website blog. Lastly, I want to touch on the real estate market. Believe it or not, it’s alive and well right now. Homes are going on the market and selling quickly. Agents are doing virtual showings, and carefully orchestrating in-person showings to adhere to the strictest physical distancing guidelines. All aspects of real estate transactions, from sales to inspections to closings, have been deemed essential by the State of California, and as of this writing are permitted by the City of San Diego. All of that said, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. If you’re thinking of buying or selling in the time of COVID-19, let’s talk about it. A thoughtful evaluation of whether or not you really need to act now is more crucial than ever before. From my family to yours, we wish you peace, health and safety.
FEED Your Neighbors Eclipse Chocolate 2145 Fern, South Park Another of our local favorites stepping up to help out the community with basic groceries
Restaurants can be the backbone of a community. They're more than just places to grab a bite; they're gathering places. Restaurants and bars are spots we go to connect, to socialize, to celebrate. Sometimes it's a special treat, and sometimes our local haunts feel as comfortable and comforting as dining in our own kitchens. Not only is it important to support our neighbors in this crazy time, but we also need to help out our local restaurants. This month, we've teamed up with North Park News in a new way and donated space here and on page 17 to area restaurants who are staying open to feed us all. I thank them for giving us a break from cooking at home, and I look forward to the days when we can gather in celebration.
Matteo Corner Juniper and 30th, South Park Not only is Matteo serving food, but they're also selling basic groceries! Thanks, Matteo, for keeping us out of the supermarket as much as possible.
