Euro Auctions raised almost $4 million at the unreserved auction of more than 500 items of used construction equipment

A
ustralia’s strong appetite for quality used construction equipment was on display at a one-day live and online sale held by Euro Auctions at its Brisbane site in November. With more than 500 items up for grabs, the sale generated $3,983,545; attracting 20 per cent more bidders than the same sale last year. The auction attracted an enthusiastic international audience, as well as consignors coming from Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, China, the UK, Italy, Canada and India, though buyers from Australia and New Zealand snapped up the bulk of the lots. Notable lots sold in Australian dollars included two Kobelco excavators and a Doosan (over 20-tonne); another Doosan (under 10-tonne); a Kobelco and two Yanmar mini excavators; a Caterpillar and a Bobcat skid steer; and three Caterpillar bulldozers. About 30 per cent of all bidder accounts were first time registrations, of which 20 per cent successfully bid on and purchased machinery. Event organisers say this suggests that imports of new machinery, which were on hold during
the pandemic, are still not reaching buyers, or buyers prefer the value of purchasing good used equipment for new construction projects. Euro Auctions territory manager for Queensland Craig Hart says equipment had been arriving for the sale since August, but the company had been forced to change its usual approach in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “COVID has dictated a change in the way we conduct the sale, being live, online and behind closed doors, however prices have been strong, and activity brisk,” he says. “A small team of staff from the Brisbane site, plus the local territory managers assisted our auctioneers to make this sale possible.” The company used auctioneers from its sister company Yoder & Frey HQ in Ohio, with the auctioneers working live and real time from their US bases. “This is a really slick technical sale, with our IT teams making the whole sale possible.” As well as being unreserved, Euro Auctions says there are no minimum bids at its events, no reserve prices and no buy backs.
