Una xarxa de la genòmica de l’adaptació
Jordi Segura rep la Medalla de Bronze de la Real Orden del Mérito Deportivo. Aquesta és la distinció més alta que s’atorga a l’esport a Espanya. Segura ha estat al capdavant del Laboratori Antidopatge de l’IMIM des del 1985 fins la seva jubilació al 2015. Aquesta medalla reconeix la seva lluita contra el dopatge en l’esport.

daptNet és la primera xarxa espanyola d’excel·lència que tracta de desentranyar els mecanismes genòmics de l’adaptació i la generació de la biodiversitat. Recentment finançada pel Ministeri d’Economia i Competitivitat amb 40.000 euros, està formada per 24 laboratoris d’11 centres de recerca, en els quals treballen investigadors del PRBB: Josefa González, Elena Bosch, Iñaki RuizTrillo i Tomàs Marquès-Bonet de l’IBE (CSIC-UPF) i Toni Gabaldón del CRG. Les tècniques de seqüenciació de nova generació (NGS) permeten abordar qües tions evolutives a gran escala, però comporten problemes de gestió, anàlisi i interpretació de grans volums de dades. AdaptNet impulsarà la col·laboració dels grups per unificar metodologies i augmentar l’intercanvi de dades i promourà la divulgació
dels avenços científics a la societat. La xarxa inclou grups que treballen en organismes model i no model i en disciplines com la genètica, la biologia evolutiva, la zoologia, la botànica, la biologia molecular, l’estadística o la bioinformàtica.
Adaptation genomics network

daptNet is the first Spanish network of excellence that tries to unravel the genomic mechanisms involved in generating biodiversity and in adaptation. Recently funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness with 40,000 euros, it is made up of 24 laboratories from 11 research centres, including several scientists from the PRBB: Josefa González, Elena Bosch, Iñaki Ruiz-Trillo and Tomàs Marquès-Bonet from IBE (CSIC-UPF), and Toni Gabaldón from CRG. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) allows tackling large-scale evolutionary questions, but it presents challenges related to the management, analysis, and interpreta tion of such huge volumes of data. AdaptNet will drive forward the collaboration of the teams, unifying methods and increasing data and knowledge sharing, as well as promoting the dissemination of scientific advances to society. The network includes groups that work on model and non-model organisms and in fields like genetics, evolutionary biology, zoology, botany, molecular biology, statistics and bioinformatics

Jordi Segura receives the Bronze Medal of the Royal Order of Sport Merit. This is Spain’s highest distinction in sport. Segura led the Antidoping Laboratory at IMIM from 1985 until his retirement in 2015. This medal recognises his career-long fight against doping in sport. El Consell de Ministres autoritza la subseu de l’EMBL al PRBB. El 23 de desembre, el Consell de Ministres ha autoritzat la signatura de l’acord entre el Govern espanyol i l’EMBL per establir una subseu d’aquesta institució a Barcelona. S’ubicarà al costat del CRG, dins de l’edifici del PRBB i se celebrarà un acte per formalitzar l’acord. The Spanish government authorizes the EMBL Outstation at the PRBB. On December 23rd, the Council of Ministers authorized the signing of the agreement between the Spanish government and the EMBL to establish an outstation of this institution in Barcelona, next to the CRG within the PRBB. There will be an official ceremony to formalize the agreement. Rafael Maldonado al Vaticà. The DCEXS-UPF professor of Pharmacology was invited to speak at a seminar on the problems of and solutions to narcotics, organised by the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican on 23 and 24 November.
