Artist Spotlight

Hubbard was born on January 31, 1987, in Monroe, Georgia. By the time he was in high school, he was leading the worship service at church and spending his free time learning to play the guitar. Hubbard was introduced to Brian Kelley at Belmont University in 2007 by a mutual friend in a campus worship group. The two became great friends, and began writing songs and playing guitar together. The duo, known as Florida Georgia Line, released their first studio album on December 4, 2012, with Republic Nashville. The first single on the album, is also the best selling country digital song of all time, with sales of over 10 million. Both members of the duo decided to venture into solo careers while maintaining the duo and remain steadfast in support of each other. Tyler Hubbard released his solo album, “Miss My Daddy,” with the single of the same name that was never intended to be heard. The song is his most personal lyric, a ballad about his late father with the words meant only to capture the moment. Roy Hubbard died on Feb. 24, 2007 in helicopter crash, he was just 43 years old. Tyler Hubbard has referred to that life shaping moment many times with fans. The album offers Hubbard's full testimony and rose to the top of the Power Source Christian Country Chart for October 2023!

VETERAN VETERAN Barbara Sim was born in Wisconsin, but has roots in Scotland, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, and South Carolina. A traveler her whole life, her love for music began while listening to her mother sing gospel songs and singing harmonies with her two sisters. Barbara served as a Landing Support Specialist in the Marine Corps from 2005-2009. She was stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 2006-2008 and served one tour in Iraq. During her tour in Iraq she volunteered with Lioness Task Force - a female engagement team that were tasked with searching females and children in order to maintain cultural sensitivities. She was honorably discharged in June 2009. After leaving the Marines, she continued traveling. She hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2016 with a Martin backpacker guitar, learning to play and write songs as she hiked. In 2017, she began doing solo acoustic gigs in Denver, CO and the surrounding area. She currently travels the US in her self-converted camper van playing solo acoustic shows. Her music tells the story of resilience, perseverance, vulnerability, and strength. A story of a woman finding her way in the world, delivered with raw and powerful, yet gentle soul-lifting vocals. Barbara is an Operation Encore Artist, a non-profit collaboration of singer-songwriters and musicians from across the veteran and military communities. Connect at www.barbarasimepk.com 9

Operation Song® empowers veterans, active-duty military members, and their families to tell their stories through the process of songwriting. Those we serve need no musical or writing skills, only a willingness to share their stories and, with the help of professional songwriters, transform them into song Grammy and Dove Award-nominated Nashville songwriter, Bob Regan, had the inspiration for Operation Song® in the 2000s while performing on Armed Forces Entertainment Tours at military bases in the Middle-East. On those tours, Regan met many service members with very compelling stories and thought that pairing them with songwriters — natural storytellers — might create some very compelling music. He was also made aware of the large number of service-related injuries, issues, and illnesses related to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that some service members were having challenging transitions back to “normal” life. The idea was that transforming their story into a song might help them process seemingly random and chaotic events and emotions of their service and give them some order, perspective and validation. In 2012, the program started with weekly sessions at the VA Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN under the supervision of a music therapist. Groups of as many as eight veterans would tell stories about their military service and professional songwriters would transform them into song. The format gradually evolved from writing group songs to focusing on the individual veterans or service members and their experiences. Operation Song® soon began sponsoring weekend retreats in Ft. Benning, GA, Chattanooga, TN, Little Rock, AR, Pensacola, FL, and New York City, NY. To date, Operation Song® has written nearly 1,500 songs with veterans of WWII to those currently serving. Our reach has extended nationwide with onsite retreats, charitable events, and on-line virtual retreats. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a charge to any veteran or family member for our services. It is our honor to serve those who have served.

Music for Veterans brings Veterans together to enjoy social interactions with fellow Veterans who may be facing the same issues of reintegrating into civilian life...all through the fun activity of playing a musical instrument!

But even if Veterans are not facing such issues, they can experience a healthy environment of camaraderie at our weekly music sessions, socializing and building friendships with fellow Veterans through music. The program also allows Veterans to build confidence and demonstrate the skills they've developed through live performances throughout the community. We partner with the VA, VFWs, American Legions, local sports teams, and nonprofits who invite us to participate in events and fundraisers. Many Vets are reluctant to seek help because they worry about the “stigma” of PTSD following them throughout their lives, making it difficult to find a job and provide for their families. Veterans freely participate in the Music for Veterans because it's totally confidential and no records are kept on their participation in our program. THE THERAPEUTIC OUTCOMES OF PLAYING A MUSICAL INSTRUMENT INCLUDED * Improved Self Image * Increased Motivation * Reduced Muscle Tension * Better Communication Skills * Improved Emotional Release * Increased Verbalization Skills * Decreased Anxiety & Agitation * Enhanced Physical Rehabilitation * Enhanced Personal Relationships

As I wrote last month, tragedy is something most of us experience at one time or another. Many times death is unexpected and shocking. When a younger person dies it's always harder to deal with. Grief is part of the healing process. It's necessary to walk through the grief in order to come to a place of healing. It seems normal that everyone processes grief differently or in their own way. Usually, grief is constant at first but as time goes by it will come and go in waves. There is an old adage that says, "time heals all wounds." Immediately after the tragedy it's hard to believe that, but it's generally true. When our daughter died a decade ago it seemed like the pain and grief would not end but with the passing of time and our trust in God's goodness, it has. Scars don't go away but grief does. When death comes to our loved ones regardless of their age, it's only the body that dies. The spirit lives on and simply moves to heaven. The apostle Paul said, "the time of my departure is at hand." Death is simply the departure of the spirit into eternity. When you go to an airport, incoming flights are arrivals and outgoing flights are departures. When a child is born it's an arrival. When someone dies it's a departure. The important thing is that we fight a good fight, finish our course and keep the faith. Life is not always smooth, there are always challenges but we keep the faith. There are things we don't understand but we don't have to understand to trust. The thing that must remain constant is to keep the faith and trust God. We should remain thankful. Thankful for all the hours we got to spend with our loved one. When we're thankful and focus on the good things it helps relieve the grief. An attitude of thanksgiving solves and soothes many hurts and pains. The other thing we must focus on is how our loved one is fulfilled in heaven with Jesus. Their problems are over and we must be thankful for that. We grieve for them but they are not grieving for us. They are with Jesus and that's all they are consumed with. One of the many benefits of heaven is reunion with our loved ones but that isn't the main focus there. Heaven is all about Jesus! He is everything there. Our relationship with our spouses and our children and relatives will have a different priority there. Jesus will be our most important relationship and we won't be disappointed about that. Heaven is real and we will be shocked to find when we get there that it is greater than we've ever imagined here! Walk through grief, then move on from it. Run your race, finish the course and keep the faith! Cogitate on this....

JIM HUDDLESTON Jim Huddleston, a Christian country singer-songwriter and disabled veteran, had a journey to music that is packed with inspiration. A childhood exposed to a variety of music through his father’s involvement with local country bands. His story gives match to the lyrics of the greatest of all country songs...there is the small mobile home park in the heart of Texas, jamming sessions after school in his father’s barbershop, military enlistment, faith, family, love, heartache, and hard work. In fact, it won’t fit into a single country song, rather it would take many and best defined as Christian Country music for the Gospel is present in every note of his life. Most unique to this United States Marine Veteran is how music shaped his service to this country and how service shaped his music. “Without compromise,” said Jim Huddleston, “daily I choose to not compromise, it worked as a Marine and it is the standard for me as a Christian. “ Jim returned to music in 2020 with a mission to share his unique sound and powerful message . With every strum of his guitar, every note sung, he hopes to bring comfort to those who are struggling, to encourage them to keep going, to reignite their faith. His debut EP, “Gospel Outlaw,” is not just an introduction to his music, but a testament of his journey, set to be released on December 8th on MTS Records. Through the EP, Jim hopes to reach a wider audience, to touch more lives with his music. He hopes that his story, his struggles and triumphs, can inspire others to keep going, to keep the faith, no matter what. The single, “I’ll Be Gone,” released this month, is a powerful song written by Huddleston, showcasing his soulful vocals and faith-driven lyrics. The song is a reflection of Jim’s faith, experiences, and the importance of faith during difficult times. From his home in Savannah, Georgia, Jim Huddleston enjoys life with his wife, Alicia and cherishes time with family, especially the grandchildren. His day to day serves to remind us all of the American spirit, a faith inspired daily walk that this disabled Veteran uses to give hope, love, joy and a voice to others through his music...his mission. Jim Huddleston not only has the Christian Country sound we all love! He has the spirit of it as well, a true Gospel Outlaw.

With Corey Lee Barker

THANKSGIVING BLESSINGS FOR THE SONGWRITING COMMUNITY This Thanksgiving season I’d like to focus on the wonderful blessings we have had as writers as opposed to the goals we may have not been able to grasp or failures that sometimes make us a bit disgruntled. In a social media world it’s easy to look around at what’s happening for other fellow writers and think “Man, I wish that would happen to me” or “why am I not that lucky?” Sometimes we get so focused at looking at what other people accomplish that we miss the big picture and look right past what we’ve been able to do ourselves with limited time and resources. No matter what we’ve done, somebody is doing more, I can promise you that. We always have something to be thankful for, if not a lot of things. Let’s take a peak at some of these realities for the hundred’s of thousands of songwriters around the globe. It may make you feel better, if you’re discouraged in any way.

28

Most writers have never:

even been to Nashville had a cut been in a co-write with anyone who has had a cut Had a song in a movie landed a jingle had a staff deal at a publishing company had a single song contract from a publishing company made enough money from their songs to even make one car payment won a songwriting contest been nominated for an award in any organization stepped on the opry stage seen a tip sheet like rowfax that tells them who is looking for songs been asked to host a writer’s round in Music City seen their name or song name in a magazine been a member of a songwriting organization like NSAI, TSAI, or GSA played at the bluebird cafe

If you have done any of these things you are above the curve and have something to celebrate. If you have not, you are no worse off than most people and still have time, as long as you’re still trying. That’s the beauty of this business. You don’t have to say “I never had anything happen” if you haven’t stopped pursuing it. It’s simply “I haven’t had a cut yet” or “I’m still workin on that number one”. Ultimately you are the one that defines your success as that means so many different things to so many different people. Honestly, if you can carry a tune and play an instrument you can already do something that millions of people wish they could do. Everything after that is a bonus. Hang in there my friends!

THE CROSSOVER

The song we sing out loud in the car, include in a memorable event, learn all the lyrics to and celebrate the music and the artist to which it belongs! It starts just like all other music finding a way in our life through feelings. It is the way it makes us feel! It's the song that brings us to a moment of worship or praise without intention from the artist. It is THE CROSSOVER! "Didn‘t I ,“ a song recorded by Montgomery Gentry for the 2006 Greatest Hits Album, “Something To Be Proud Of.“ Written by the legendary singer-songwriter R. Anthony Smith. The song is a tribute to all Veterans! The lyrics talk about the sacrifice of the soldier in provision and protection of the freedom known to all Americans. The lyrics give voice to the soldier feeling the pain of rejection from the very ones reaping the benefit of the sacrifice. How similar that is to the voice of Jesus to those who reject or ignore the enormous sacrifice to give all everlasting life.

DIDN’T I Didn't I make ya proud Go and lay my life down When you called my name I thought I stood for somethin' Was doin' the right thing When I went away Now bein' back should be so simple But I keep gettin' these big signals From everyone Why do folks sit and judge me Who ain't seen what I've seen Or did what I done? Didn't I burn Didn't I bleed Enough For you? I've faced your fears Felt pain So you won't have to Yeah, didn't I do my best And wasn't home here when I left? I've seen boys fall to pieces Grown men cry out for Jesus 'Til they're black and blue I thought God was on our side Weren't we supposed to be the good guys That would never lose? Cuz' I don't see no ticker, tape Or 5-mile parade sayin' "Thank you, son" Just folks that sit and judge me Who ain't seen what I've seen Or did What I done Didn't I burn Didn't I bleed Enough For you? I've faced your fears Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: R. Anthony Smith Felt pain Didn't I lyrics © Almo Music Corp. So you won't have to. Shortly after being introduced to Corey Lee Barker, I received a package of his songs to consider recording. I remember the first time I heard this song, it really stood out to me, and I knew right away it would be my first to record. I was able to really relate to the song, and knew that most people out there could relate to it a swell. I have been through tough times praying and seeking the Lord’s guidance for my life. So many people in this world have gone through hard times and seeking the Lord’s guidance. I pray the song ministers to all listener. You just have to reach out to Him, spend time with Him and experience a relationship with Him.

Project of Love is founded by Xander Stok, professional singer-songwriter. A few years ago, his life changed dramatically. “I was a singer/guitarist in a rockband. Suffered from severe depression for over 20 years. Lived a suicidal life-style. I never felt at home in this world. Had addictions to fill the hole in my soul. Then I had an encounter with my amazingly good Father. He took me out of the pit, gave me new life, new clothes, and here I am. In January 2021, while I was reading the book of Isaiah, I heard a quiet voice say: “Grab your guitar and sing what you’re reading...”

A GIFT TO ENGINEERING by Rebecca Higgins Lewis Howard Latimer was born in 1848 in Massachusetts. He was an excellent student as a child, but to help provide for his family he lied about his age and joined the Union Army at age 16 to fight in the Civil War by serving abord the USS Massasoit, a blockade ship in the James River. After the war and his honorable discharge, he went to Boston and began work in a patent law firm. By observation and reading he taught himself mechanical drawing. Once it was discovered that he had amazing abilities as a draftsman he was promoted. It is thanks to Lewis Latimer that Alexander Graham Bell Was able to obtain his patent on the telephone. Bell hired the firm where Latimer worked to file his patent before a rival inventor could. Latimer drew the blueprints and helped to file the paperwork that enabled Bell to succeed. Latimer next worked for Hiram Maxim of machine gun fame, in his Electric Lighting Company in New York. Maxim invented a wide variety of items and was competing with Edison to produce a workable long-lasting lightbulb. Latimer’s work that modified the lightbulb’s carbon filaments was a breakthrough in the technology at the time. It reduced the breakages of the filaments enabling the bulbs to be produced faster and last longer. This also made the bulbs affordable for average people. He was sent to England on behalf of the company to teach this process of making lightbulbs. In 1884 Latimer went to work for Edison himself, including translating Edison’s work into German. While working for Edison he wrote his book on electric lighting, Incandescent Electric Lighting, published in 1890. Latimer helped to make improvements on Edison’s bulb and he also supervised the installation of public lights in New York and Philadelphia as well as overseas in London and Montreal Later in his career he became a patent consultant to law firms. Latimer holds 8 US Patents for items including an “Improvement in Water-closets for Railroad-Cars”, “Apparatus for Cooling and Disinfecting” (an early form of air conditioning), a “Book Supporter” and two other inventions involving electric lamps. Latimer was a renaissance man. He wrote a book of poetry and articles for journals as well as writing plays. He played the violin and flute. He also painted portraits. He was of the Unitarian faith and taught English and drafting courses to immigrants in New York. Latimer was married and had two daughters. He passed away in 1928 at age 80. By any measure he led a unique life of making things better as an engineer, pioneering ways to improve everyday life with light, sound, and sanitation while raising a family and being a well-rounded person of many interests. One more thing that should be mentioned about Lewis H. Latimer is that he was the son of escaped slaves. His parents escaped Virginia with his mother, Rebecca, posing as her lighter-skinned husband’s servant. Rebecca’s husband, George, was recognized almost immediately when they arrived in Boston and his arrest and trial became famous state-wide. Both white and black abolitionists held meetings in support of his cause. A petition arising from his case was the impetus behind what became known as the “Latimer Law” that stopped Massachusetts officials from detaining people who were suspected of being escaped slaves and disallowed the use of any state facilities to hold any such suspected slaves. More than 64,000 people signed the petition. Funds were raised and George Latimer’s freedom was purchased. But a spark had been ignited. Perhaps the most fitting words about Lewis Latimer are from the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences Website, Thomas A. Edison Papers, by Janet M. Schneider. She says that he “…strove to create his own life as a positive example of what African Americans could do when given freedom and equality. Relying on his own hard work, adaptability and intellectual gifts, Latimer forged a successful career as a draftsman and inventor, as well as a rich private life.” Latimer wrote, “It is necessary that we should show the people of this country that we who have by our martyrdom under the lash; by our heroism on the battlefield; by our Christian forbearance beneath an overwhelming burden of injustice; and by our submission to the laws of the native land, proven ourselves worthy citizens of our common country.” 35

In 2014, multi-award winning country music artist Richard Lynch, (www.richardlynchband.com) of Waynesville, Ohio established the non-profit Love Tattoo Foundation to raise awareness and financial assistance for wounded veterans. The singer of, “The Last of A Dying Breed” believes that as we enjoy our freedoms we must always remember those who have sacrificed so much. Through their service, dedication and valor, our Veterans have earned our respect and support. Many Veterans bare the marks of their service with physical and emotional scars and we have an obligation to assist them wherever possible. The name Love Tattoo was inspired by a poem written by law enforcement officer Chuck Brisbin to honor a Veteran who returned home from Afghanistan severely disfigured. Chuck brought his heartfelt poem to Richard and asked if it could be put to music and perhaps used in a way as to assist our wounded heroes. After working on the song and feeling the emotion it generated, Richard knew it was destined to take on a life of its own, and the Love Tattoo Foundation was born, (www.lovetattoofoundation.org). This foundation recognizes that the horror of war and military service do not end with a tour of duty. Countless Veterans tell stories of ostracism and further wounding when they return home. Many feel they have nowhere to turn, and that is unacceptable. A primary beneficiary from the Foundations activities is the unique WilWin Lodge in Trout Lake, Michigan (www.wilwin.org). Previously used as a lumbering operation, WilWin sits on 600 beautiful, wooded acres with over ten miles of groomed trails for hiking, riding, four wheeling, and biking. Richard Lynch is an American country music artist, who has compiled a long list of country hits and chart toppers in the world of traditional country music. The sounds of Richard Lynch are reminiscent of the classics that started it all. The same passion and raw truth that fueled the likes of Conway Twitty, Keith Whitley, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, and Hank Williams is sewn into the fabric of Richard Lynch. In a world of fabricated country stars, Richard Lynch stands out in the crowd as a proud member of the last of a dying breed, the pure country music artist. His rock solid country roots span 3 decades, it comes up with the sun each morning, and it settles in the music he writes and the songs he sings.. The spirit of Richard Lynch is that which is attached to the working man's soul. It's real and it's timeless. It's country, the way country was meant to be. Living the life he sings about is what gives Richard Lynch the edge as a singer/songwriter. Richard is a hard working, blue collar man. He is a designer and builder of amazing barns, and as should be expected, he is an American farmer. His everyday life and paying his musical dues by performing at over 300 events a year, all across the country, is that which shaped him into a one-of-a-kind performer. Richard's style is true and it carries into his live shows. Much like his music alone, a live performance of the Richard Lynch Band is something you feel. It's something you carry with you when you walk away. If country music is a gift that sustains in our lives wherever we go, Richard Lynch is the messenger.

Matthew 7:6

“PEARLS”

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn to rend you. I have heard this scripture a thousand times. Somehow, in my mind, it felt like it was talking about money or some precious item. This scripture is talking about PEOPLE. People are dogs and pigs.

Whoa boy!!!! In today's culture, it's just awful to call people a dog or a pig. However, that is exactly what the Bible is referring to here. Giving away our holy things to dogs and our pearls to swine is warned against in this scripture. What are our “Holy” things and what are our “pearls”?

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, and cometh down From the Father…. Every good and perfect gift…..These are holy things which God has given us. Peace, understanding, joy, happiness, strength, endurance, longevity, faith, LOVE! God gives his faithful these things. Those who have endured and turned to him in times of trouble. Each new trial brings more strength and courage as we cling to him and seek his face. He builds us up and gives us new peace and adds to our faith as we grow. These are holy things. How do we give this to the dogs? The scripture here is referring to people, people who will treat your holy things like dogs would. Dogs do not differentiate between something of value and something that is trash or garbage. You could hand a dog a $1200 Gucci purse and that Dog would rip it to shreds. This is exactly what happens when we hand our holy things to people who do not care. When we extend our grace God has given us, our love, kindness and hand of hope to those who mistreat and disrespect it, we are tossing those things to dogs. People who don’t care. If they’re not interested in moving towards the good, then do not hand them these holy things. People will often take and take as much as you will give, and will tear it apart and ask for more. Just like a dog will.

Pearls…. This word has always confused me. As a kid, whenever I heard this scripture, I thought of actual pearls. However, I believe I have figured this one out. A pearl is something precious that is often and mostly given as a gift. Our gifts are our pearls. We all have gifts of some sort. In some ways we all cast our “Pearls” before swine. Not only will they trample your gifts, people will stomp on them and then turn on you and gut you where you stand. My gifts are numerous and I have been so guilty of this. I have given my gifts for music to pigs before and had it trampled many times, And then talked about and gutted for the privilege of giving my all.

#THEGOSPELTRUTH When we give our gifts away to people who disrespect us, use us, conjure up ways to get from us, and abuse us, we are dealing with swine. People who will literally take our gifts and then when they’ve taken all from us, they’ll turn on us and tear us apart because we can’t give away anymore. We should heed to Matthew 7:6 and see this for what it is. It is a warning about PEOPLE. People (by nature) are evil and manipulators, liars and devious and schemers. They often hatch plans to use and abuse for their own gain. Our gifts are not to be tossed to such people. Nothing good comes from that whatsoever. We must pray for discernment and the eyes of the spirit to guide us.

Acts 15:28 It is the decision of the holy Spirit and of us… This suggests we include the Holy Spirit in our decisions.

Romans 12:1-2 Do not conform yourself to this age that you may “discern” the will of God. This shows that we must separate ourselves from culture and society so that we can do what is best for us according to God's plan. Society would have us tossing our gifts to everyone with their hand out and apologizing when they abuse us and then offering more to those who disrespect us. Society is full of idiots and morons and can not be trusted.

1 Corinthians 2:7-12 This god has revealed to us that we may understand. This scripture shows us that God will reveal things to us if we allow him so that we can understand and make better choices. These scripture (in their entirety) are just a few examples of how God wants to help us make the right choices when it comes to the dogs and pigs surrounding us. He does not want us used and abused and just tossing away our blessings and gifts. It is up to us to seek out what he would have us do in every situation. When we leave God out of our decision making process, we tend to yield to society and peer pressure and even our own thoughts of guilt ourselves into giving our gifts away. The bible clearly gives us an out for that, It says “DON’T DO IT”! Protect you holy things and precious gifts from the idiots of the world. I will do the same. Until next time….. Shane Roark

THE VITAL NETWORK OF YOUR MUSIC/MINISTRY! YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND YOU CANNOT DO IT ALONE! Did you know or have you figure out that pursuing a career in music or following a calling is not meant to be a solo act? No matter how talented you are, there are not enough hours in a day to do it all effectively. Music, business, ministry is all a collaborative project requiring others to assist, support, or join with you. On the music side you require the hiring of production, songwriters, studio time, etc. On the business side you require the hiring of management, song publishing, marketing, etc. On the ministry side you require all the business needs mention with unique marketing applied, etc. The key to finding your vital network is just opening your eyes, ears and heart. It could be the advice or recommendation from another in the industry. A tip or idea from a friend. Or even something you observe, read or experience. It takes connection to open opportunities! Working together is always better. Your vital network is not only about about what you need, but also what you can GIVE! Connect with others, share your experiences, connections, advice, prayers, and most of all support! Working toward the growth and betterment of your relationships within the industry will bring unmatched success to all endeavors, all the while building your connection to the audience that needs to hear the message. The greatest advice on this subject can found in the Bible... Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

GODLY WOMAN By KristeNicole

GATHER TOGETHER As I browse the aisles of one of my favorite craft stores, I see all the cute fall things. They are painted, stenciled, or stamped with sayings like “Give Thanks”, “Harvest Time”, and “Gather Together” on everything I see. In the background I hear an acoustic version of the old hymn “We Gather Together” and I think to myself, “gather….to assemble, congregate.” I always look forward to gathering for Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday. It’s the time when wonderful food is prepared, and lasting memories are made. Unfortunately, it can also be a time when we all too easily get caught up in focusing on just the food, travel, family, or that picture perfect social media memory post. Gathering is so very important in our walks as followers of Jesus and the Godly legacies we are building to leave behind for our loved ones. Let’s face it, living separate from the world, but in it, can, at times feel lonely. What a special time it can be when we intentionally gather together with fellow believers. We strengthen our faith as we encourage others and are encouraged ourselves as we share that for which we are truly thankful. Hebrews 10:25 says “Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” Gathering together as followers is vital to our spiritual growth and well-being; and God’s gathering love is much greater than any holiday feast.

Proverbs 27:17 says “ As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” In Matthew 18:20 Jesus said, “For where two or three gather in my name I am with them.” One day, we who follow Jesus, will be gathered to our heavenly home to be forever with God. Zechariah 10:8 says, “I will whistle for them to gather them together, For I have redeemed them”. As you spend endless hours this month preparing for your thanksgiving gathering, remember what Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive (gather) you for Myself.” (John 14:3)

When we gather in His name, we are actively practicing Kingdom Living here on earth. That gathering will be far greater than your absolute favorite gathering here on earth could ever be. So, gather with a grateful heart. Remembering His eternal gathering this Thanksgiving will make this year’s family time even more meaningful.

Washington, D.C. is a city with a rich history behind it. As the American capital, every U.S. president from John Adams onward has led the country through times of crises and hardship from the national seat of government in the city. It's been an undeniably influential part of the U.S. government dating back to the earliest days of the republic, as closely tied to U.S. history as any one of the political figures who have stepped foot into the District of Columbia. From monuments dedicated to America's most celebrated leaders to memorials honoring the military heroes who sacrificed their lives for their nation, here are some of Washington, D.C.'s best to visit: The Korean War Veterans Memorial has several different components. Entering the memorial's grounds, you'll instantly notice the memorial's defining characteristic: a series of 19 statues known collectively as "The Column." These statues – each of which stand at just over 7 feet tall – represent an American platoon on patrol, with each statue representing a branch of the U.S. military. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is spread over two acres of land, its chief component being a 246-foot-long granite wall with the names of the missing and deceased etched into its surface. Each section of the Memorial Wall is arranged as though it were an individual page in an opened book, with the engraved names organized by the date they fell in battle or went missing in action. The Vietnam Women's Memorial consists of a large statue showing three uniformed female military personnel comforting a male soldier wounded in combat. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is dedicated to the deceased U.S. service members whose remains were unable to be identified. The Tomb was officially founded in 1921, serving as the gravesite for an unidentified soldier who fell on the battlefields of World War I.

The National World War I Memorial is a fantastic memorial site today, it also promises to be an exceptional dedication to veterans of the Great War in the future, with a notable extension planned to arrive in 2024. This extension consists of a large mural sculpture titled "A Soldier's Journey" paying homage to the American troops who served in the war. The National World War II Memorial features a massive fountain known as the Rainbow Pool, as well as 56 surrounding pillars, each of which represents America's individual states and territories. On either side of the fountain are two large arches inscribed with "Atlantic" and "Pacific" respectively, referencing the two main theaters of combat Americans fought in during World War II. The United States Marine Corps War Memorial is dedicated to every Marine whose lives were lost in service to the U.S. dating back to the start of the Revolutionary War. The centerpiece of the memorial is the massive bronze statue in the middle of the park, featuring six Marines working together to raise a 60-foot American flag in the air. The memorial statue is taken almost directly from the iconic image of Marines raising the flag on Mount Suribachi following the 1945 World War II victory at Iwo Jima. The United States Navy Memorial honors those who served in the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and the Merchant Marine, it's a large memorial site that does plenty of justice to those it was established to honor. The United States Air Force Memorial honors all members who joined the service and its preceding branches prior to the Air Force's official formation in 1947.
