Thank God I Do

Lauren Daigle explained that "Thank God I Do" emerged in the time of the COVID uncertainties. With everyone in an isolated state, Daigle started several girls groups to stay in touch via the internet. The online opportunity filled the void of the friendship relations despite physical restrictions. "God puts very specific people in your life for a very specific reason. And I needed the people in my life at that time around me to keep my head above the water" said Lauren. "Thank God I Do" is a song by Lauren Daigle, released on March 8, 2023, as the lead single from her fourth studio album. Words and Music for "Thank God I Do" were written by Lauren Daigle, Jason Ingram, Jaffrey Bkasker, Alecia Moore and Nathaniel Ruess. Daigle was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was influenced by zydeco, blues, and Cajun music in her environment. Her mother called her house "the music box" because she was always singing. Daigle did not consider music seriously until contracting cytomegalovirus at age 15. This diagnosis kept her out of school for the next two years. During that time, Daigle took voice lessons that provided her with a creative outlet. During college prep school, she planned to enter the medical field and do mission work. Daigle attended a charter school and completed a year and a half of class work in six months, graduating early. She took a year off from school and did mission work in Brazil before attending Louisiana State University for Child and Family Studies. At LSU, she joined and lead the college choir. She tried out for American Idol in 2010 and 2012 after she was encouraged by her family to compete in the singing competition. At the end of the AI experience, Daigle talked about the experience being packed full of life lessons.

In 2015, Daigle accepted her first award, Worship Song of the Year, for her single "How Can It Be" at the K-Love Awards. Along with being named Best New Artist at the 2015 Dove Awards, Daigle earned awards for Song of the Year and Contemporary Song of the Year (for "How Can It Be"). At the next year's ceremony, she took home the top honor of Artist of the Year, plus Songwriter of the Year, and Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year (for "Trust in You"). That year she also won two K-Love Fan Awards, for Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year. She won Female Artist of the Year at the K-Love Fan Awards in 2017 for the second year in a row. A music video for the single "Thank God I Do" was released on April 6, 2023.

"POWER SOURCE MAGAZINE SALUTES LAUREN DAIGLE!! CONGRATULATIONS!

THE OLD GUARD by Rebecca Higgins

Who are the men and women who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? In certain times of the year we sometimes see memes passed around on social media about the Tomb Guards. Some of these are truthful but some say some pretty outlandish things about the expectations of our soldiers that perform this amazing duty. I want to start out by debunking some myths. The Tomb Guards do not live under the tomb. They do not take vows to abstain from alcohol or swearing for the rest of their lives. They are ordinary soldiers with an extraordinary duty. What these Old Guard soldiers do, day in and day out, every minute of every day, since 1937 is special enough that we don’t need myths to cloud what it is that they actually do. The Tomb Guards are drawn from The Old Guard, the common name for the US Army’s official ceremonial unit. In addition to providing the guards for the Tomb, the Old Guard provides the honors at military funerals held at Arlington National Cemetery and also serves as a military escort to the President. They are officially known as the 3rd US Infantry Regiment and are the oldest unit in the Army, established in 1784. In addition, they have a drill and ceremony team and a fife and drum corps. While you frequently see them at inaugurations, state funerals, and official Washington Ceremonies, they are also a working military unit. They train to maintain the same tactical standards of any other unit in the Army. They also have the 947th Military Police Detachment, an elite working-dog unit. The Old Guard can be called upon in times of emergency to defend D.C. Eventually, each soldier who serves in the Old Guard will rotate into another Army unit and must be proficient in the tasks of a regular soldier. The standards to join this Unit are very high and once selected for the Old Guard it’s Soldiers continue to hold themselves to an amazingly high standard. They consider their mission to be a “no fail” mission. Every detail must be perfect. Whether it is for the family of a soldier being laid to rest, the greeting of a leader of a foreign country, the 21 steps across the front of the Tomb of the Unknowns, or marching as the lead color guard for a parade – their exactness and attention to detail never falters. The physical challenges are unique. A standard casket is about 500 to 700 pounds and must be carried in a respectful, dignified manner sometimes for a long distance. Even the flags they carry are different and problematic. Consider the Army colors with its battle streamers (190 of them). It is, by tradition, dipped down for the National Anthem. The top-heavyweight exerts a force of about 88 pounds on the man holding it – with one outstretched arm. If two countries' anthems are played, this can last for 3 to 4 minutes. Famously, the Tomb Guards perform their duties 365 days a year in every possible weather condition. There are measures that are taken for safety during lightning or high winds to ensure the Guards are not injured. But they stand their posts no matter what happens. I spoke to a soldier who was guarding the Tomb even as the plane struck the Pentagon on 9/11. He could feel the heat from the fire and the force of the impact blew his hat off. Yet, he did his duty. Entire books have been written about these soldiers and I can recommend three of them. The best overview of the unit and the soldiers by far is Sacred Duty: A Soldier’s Tour at Arlington National Cemetery by Tom Cotton. If you are interested in how we chose our unknown soldiers and the process of getting the monument, The Unknowns by Patrick K. O’Donnell tells the story of how they were chosen and the men who escorted them home. If you are interested in the history of Arlington read A Century of Honor by Philip Bigler. It is a good overview.

This month we’re focusing on empowerment. How to grow our genre and our industry. It’s an important discussion that needs to be honest and frank. If we are not in unity and love we will never grow into a significant force for the kingdom and never make a great impact on the music business. It’s easy to get locked in on our individual tastes and styles of Christian Country Music. Personally, I'm old school country. I love the classic country sound the best and I strive to keep steel guitar and twin fiddles alive and well! We cannot let tradition die. It’s what brought us to where we are today. If I’m honest though, I tend to push back on more contemporary Country Music and my attitude toward pop country or rock influenced country music gets judgmental and maybe even hateful, if I’m not careful. I really don’t want to be that way and thankfully as I’ve moved into my senior years I'm beginning to learn that there is room for everyone’s differences in music. God made us all unique and we should respect the abilities of all artists who are using their talents for the kingdom. It’s a simple thing. If we just live by the Golden Rule it will change everything. Treating other artists like we wish to be treated will accomplish more than we can imagine. Things go so much more smoothly when we simply treat each other with respect, regardless of our differences. Years ago in the early days of Christian Country I saw this played out. White River always leaned toward the classic country sound while our buddies Mid South were drawn more toward a contemporary, pop sound of country music. We worked quite a few shows together and never had an issue. We gave each other respect and were great friends. That respect and friendship remains strong today. It’s also important I believe, to encourage and mentor younger artists as they develop. We must remember that the next generation will not do it just like we did it. They will develop new sounds and new styles that will influence our Christian Country music. If we treat them with respect , I believe they will respect our music as well. We can get bogged down in debate and discussion about how to grow our music. However, it’s not rocket science! It’s simply doing what we are called to do in a way that will honor our Lord and create an atmosphere of love and respect for each other and our fellow man. God is so smart! He taught us that if we would love our fellow man, then we’ve kept all the commandments! It’s the Golden Rule. Treat others like we wish to be treated! It’s that simple. That’s how we empower ourselves and each other. That’s how we grow the music we love. Let love empower our music! Cogitate on this, Gene Reasoner

THE EMPOWERED WORD PSALM 139:1-12 Lord, you know everything there is to know about me. You perceive every movement of my heart and soul, and you understand my every thought before it even enters my mind. You are so intimately aware of me, Lord. You read my heart like an open book and you know all the words I’m about to speak before I even start a sentence! You know every step I will take before my journey even begins. You’ve gone into my future to prepare the way, and in kindness you follow behind me to spare me from the harm of my past. You have laid your hand on me! This is just too wonderful, deep, and incomprehensible! Your understanding of me brings me wonder and strength. Where could I go from your Spirit? Where could I run and hide from your face? If I go up to heaven, you’re there! If I go down to the realm of the dead, you’re there too! If I fly with wings into the shining dawn, you’re there! If I fly into the radiant sunset, you’re there waiting! Wherever I go, your hand will guide me; your strength will empower me. It’s impossible to disappear from you or to ask the darkness to hide me, for your presence is everywhere, bringing light into my night. There is no such thing as darkness with you. The night, to you, is as bright as the day; there’s no difference between the two. TPT: The Passion Translation

MISS

FREDDYE

It all started on the southside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with two friends taking the radio hits and singing proudly to their thousands, millions of fans. It was all pretending with a friend until one of those young girls took the Church stage for her first solo. It was a magnificent moment all the way until she totally bombed the song…yes, the church was silent. An unbelievable story and even more so when you find out it belongs to The Lady of The Blues…Miss Freddye! It is a true story and if not for a friend overhearing Freddye Stover sing a song to her youngest child in 1996, we wouldn’t be talking about the accomplished Blues, Christian and Gospel singer who has made a significant impact in the world of spiritual music. Back in 1996, the friend set up an audition but there was a matter to overcome, Freddye had developed severe stage fright post the church incident. But the influence of her faith and her mother’s love for her and the Blues, Miss Freddye grabbed that microphone and stretched the cord all the way to the bathroom. No kidding, she auditioned from the bathroom with the water running to calm her. Big Al Leavitt didn’t hesitate to join Freddye into the BMW(Blues Music Works) band that day. In 2002, she formed her own band, "Blue Faze". Followed by Miss Freddye's Blues Band and Miss Freddye's Homecookin' Band. These days, Miss Freddye has been performing and recording the blues, gospel and soul for 30+ years receiving numerous awards and nominations. This growing musical legend with an incredible voice is a woman of varied talents. In addition to being the Lady of The Blues and having two bands, she is also a full-time Nurse. With her powerful voice, emotive performances, and unwavering faith, Miss Freddye has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for countless fans. In 2021, Miss Freddye released, “Wade In The Water,” which was a return to her early roots of singing in the church. Next off the same album, Miss Freddye released, “Something To Believe In,” a moving and uplifting tribute to her late mother. The song is rooted in a rich tradition of gospel music, with its powerful choir arrangements and soaring vocal harmonies. It is a beacon of hope and faith for all with lyrics that emphasize holding onto beliefs in the face of adversity. She is an award-winning, overcoming, surviving, believing, inspirational singer of legendary status. The Lady of The Blues…MISS FREDDYE

EMPOWERING

THE PASSION

16

By definition the word Empowering means to give official authority or to promote. And the word Passion refers not only to sufferings of Jesus from the Last Supper to Crucifixion but also means intense, driving feeling or conviction. It is interesting that “Passion” refers to the final days of Jesus on earth as it is evident that His 33 years in human form was spent “Empowering” us all. That moment of “It Is Finished,” is the official authority of God for all to be empowered by His promises and to defeat condemnation. We received the authority to be empowered at the cross and redemption from condemnation at the resurrection.

So, we have been empowered, yet also we have been instructed to empower others. We don’t have to guess about how to do it, Jesus taught with illustrations. Empowerment is not just a fancy word to motivate, it is a directive. Let’s talk about that directive from Jesus and the illustrations provided for Empowering The Passion. At the very beginning, Jesus told the disciples that He would make them into something: “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19). Jesus created an opportunity to empower the calling on their lives to change the world. He spent the next three years teaching them to share with others, connect people to the promises and care for the needs of others. Today we learn to be empowered in the same way as our spiritual growth develops a change of heart from self-centered to others-centered. We become God-centered with a desire to serve and lead. Jesus used every opportunity to teach about serving and ministering to others. Let’s take a look at John 6:1-13 for which we find Jesus crossing the Sea of Galilee after a time in Jerusalem. Because of the news being shared about the miracles and teachings, there was a great following of people that also showed up. At that time, Jesus could have gone solo in the miracle of feeding the multitudes BUT that isn’t what He did. Jesus gave the disciples hands-on experience. He didn’t just have them sit back and watch Him meet people's needs he got them actively involved in ministering to the people. He empowered them by bringing them to a place where others were in need, teaching them, connecting them to God and each other, modeling the truth for them at all times and equipping them for their ministry. Therefore, in our directive to empower others we must do likewise. Model the truth in our ministry, go where the need is and share with others to come along, connect with others and connect them with God and reject the competition, judgment and gossip replacing always with empowering love. It is much easier to talk about it or teach it, doing that in this competitive world is much harder. However, the reward are greater than can be documented. Imagine applying empowerment to the happenings of Matthew 14. Matthew 14:22 “And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.” Jesus commanded the disciples to all board the ship, so all of them are on board to cross to the other side. Take note that Jesus did not get onboard the ship. Matthew 14:24 “But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.” All aboard and being tossed about on the waves of the ocean must have been quite scary, as it is easy to presume they expected a miraculous crossing with no interference. They had just witnessed the feeding of multitudes, and were following the instructions of Jesus to cross. It would be easy to believe that some of them may have had a few negative thoughts as it wasn’t looking very miraculous. Matthew 14:25 “And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.” As it goes, taking the Roman division of time used in that day, the “fourth watch of night,” would indicate the final period of night before the dawn, between 3:00 am and 6:00 am. So it was dark, maybe foggy and again not looking miraculous.

17

Matthew 14:26-27 “And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” It is truly understandable that they would be concerned to see someone walking on the water. Imagine watching the weather channel coverage of a hurricane and seeing Jim Cantore walking on the sea. While Jim isn’t Jesus, hopefully that gives you a smile while relating to the incredible moment this was for them watching from a boat being tossed around. Matthew 14:29 “And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” Now this moment is truly incredible as we read in the chapter that Peter asks if that is in fact Jesus and if so, would He ask Peter to come to Him. It is the faith of a mustard seed moment that captures you as Peter is afraid but takes a leap of faith that his heart is correct and that is Jesus.

THIS IS THE MOMENT THE STORY GETS REALLY GOOD! Matthew 14:30-31 “But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” It brings to mind the teaching of a child to ride a bike, you spend days or weeks with the fundamentals of it, they ride a little with training wheels to get the concept and then the moment of truth. They are naturally a little scared as they might fall down, get hurt. Just like the outstretching of Jesus’ hand, you will hold the bike, run alongside, whatever is required to build their faith in the ability to ride that bike. Once the achievement is reached, you will praise them while saying something like, “Now see you had nothing to be afraid of, you did it and I was right there the whole time to protect you if needed.” That is what Jesus said in essence to Peter, there was nothing to fear as the faith to achieve it was engaged when he left the boat, when his eyes were on Jesus.

NOW FOR THE BEST PART OF THIS STORY! Matthew 14:32-33 “And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshiped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.” Peter had been empowered by Jesus, Peter had empowered all on the ship, and together they were empowered to a new level of faith in the true Son of God.

NOW FOR A PLOT TWIST! Imagine all the events of that story with a little twist at the moment Peter began to be afraid and sink in the water. What if all those on the ship had that same faith as Peter in the moment and as he started to walk to Jesus there was a roar from the crowd. What if they were all chanting, “That is Jesus!” “You got this Peter!” ‘Walk to the Son of God.” Maybe they would repeat some words Jesus had spoken previously to encourage, support and motivate the faith existing in Peter. Can you just imagine the rise in his faith, the confidence in his steps, and the celebration of worship that would have ignited? It is easy to imagine that Peter would not have started to sink, that his fear would have never become a factor. The empowerment of his peers' faith would have certainly ignited that mustard seed faith to grow substantially.

18

No, that isn’t what happened in reality but that story/lesson in the Bible is real and represents much more than just the faith of Peter or to keep our eyes on Jesus. In ministry we aren’t like the disciples/apostles learning everything for the first time. We have accepted Jesus in our heart, studied the word of God and accepted the calling He has placed on us. With knowledge comes responsibility, we have a responsibility to understand that the lessons serve one purpose to those just learning faith and even more to those walking in faith and even greater to those teaching the faith. Taking this lesson as an example, we learn that Jesus didn’t just send Peter on that boat, He sent them all. He walked on the water in a storm to the ship being seen by them all, not just Peter. That shows us that it was a group lesson. Any of them or even all of them could have stepped off that boat, it was Peter who did. But note that Jesus did not take Peter’s hand and walk to shore, together they went aboard the ship. Followed by ALL worshiping the Son of God and ALL telling the story of that miracle. Even in the very individual moment of Peter and Jesus, it is a group experience. Jesus designed it to be that, a group empowerment. When you think about it, Jesus could have come and chosen one single individual to learn, share and speak. He chose more than one, included many and came for all. Model your ministry to that of Jesus! Take the time to learn how, what, where and why He did as He did. Walk in love with all, help others at every moment available, lead by example and join with others to further the Kingdom of God. For what one’s faith can achieve, a group’s faith will exceed!

THERE IS NO GREATER CALLING THAN TO BE ABOUT EMPOWERING THE PASSION!

EMPOWERING THE PASSION Excellence is not achieved overnight Maximum effort brings victory to light Potential is measured by no one but God Only a fool says that all hope is gone Winning’s reserved for those who don’t quit Every journey worth taking starts from within Reach for the stars even when you can’t see’m In times when the world says you can’t - keep believin’ No better time to dig in than right now….so Go find a dream and then chase that thing down The road isn’t easy but then if it was How could you treasure the prize that you’ve won Everyone stumbles before they can dance Practice and patience….they go hand in hand All things are possible, this you can trust Stick to your path if it’s something you love Stand up for what your heart says you should do If you never give in there’s no way you can lose Onward and upward - resilience is king No hesitation, Let’s do this thing

Corey Lee Barker coreyleebarker.com

I’ve always said my 3 rules for being a “successful” songwriter, whatever that word means to you, are: 1 - persistence 2 - persistence 3 - persistence It’s one thing to dream about something, another thing to chase it, and yet another to resiliently track it down like a bloodthirsty hound zooming in on a T-bone steak:) I prefer the latter of the three because it trumps talent most days of the week. When you put God first and start chasing your passion with everything you have, it’s difficult not to experience a little bit of success. When you do those things and also surround yourself with good hearted go getters with like minded values and drive ... .well, my friend, you may become unstoppable. I hope everyone ambitiously empowers their passion in 2023 and watches what God can do when it lines up with his will for you. Keep writing!

“NOBODY BUT GOD” written by Kaleb Willis & Corey Lee Barker, produced with Shane Roark at Chapel Valley Studios. This is the first single release from the first studio album, “HAND IT OVER,” from the TenFiftySeven Media artist. The Louisiana native launched onto the Christian Country Music scene last year with an acoustic song penned from the heart that led to the songwriting collaboration with the legendary Corey Lee Barker. “NOBODY BUT GOD,” is a upbeat country song with a message of hope in all situations. JUSTIN TODD HEROD talks about

The Power of A Second Chance I wrote this song, "The Power Of A Second Chance" about myself and many others like me...People we all have known, who the world would look at and judging from their past assume they would never have a chance at redemption. The main character of the video and the song however is not a person, it is a reality...GRACE, FORGIVENESS and the LOVE of GOD for broken humanity which are the reason for this song and video. I pray as you listen and watch that you will know deeply that God Loves You and Forgives you. He gives us the greatest second chance through the power of His son Jesus Christ. I pray you are encouraged by it!

Muscle Shoals is rapidly becoming a popular tourist destination in the United States with thousands visiting each year, enjoying the many attractions and events offered. Muscle Shoals is conveniently located in Colbert County, the gateway to Northwest Alabama. Muscle Shoals is less than a days drive from anywhere in the mid-South and the lower mid-West. Local attractions include the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Ivy Green-Home of Helen Keller, and Coon Dog Cemetery, only to name a few. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame was a dream and goal of the Muscle Shoals Music Association, a Shoals area based professional organization of recording studio owners, producers, musicians, songwriters and other music professionals. Induction to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame is reserved for a select few Alabamians who have made exceptional musical contributions throughout their careers. Notable inductees include Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette, Jake Hess, Speer Family, Alabama, William Lee Golden and most recently Jim McBride. It is worth the trip just to experience all of the rich history and to learn more about the inductees since 1985. In 1995, Muscle Shoal Rhythm Section (The Swampers) became inductees to the Hall of Fame and that leads us to another must experience in the area. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section partnered with Jerry Wexler to found Muscle Shoals Sound Studio at 3614 Jackson Highway in Sheffield, Alabama. Cher's sixth album was titled 3614 Jackson Highway and this became the informal name for the studio in 1969. By December 1969, the Rolling Stones were recording at this new location. The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section was the first group of musicians to own a studio and to eventually run their own publishing and production companies. Back in the day they picked up Lynyrd Skynyrd, whose epic “Freebird” would become known as a modern-day Southern Rock anthem. But they were unable to secure a label for the record, and they had to let the band go, shortly before their fame. However, following the tragic plane crash, the survivors had the Muscle Shoals sessions put out as an album titled Skynyrd’s First And… Last.

Which brings us to experiencing FAME Music which was established in 1959 in Florence, Alabama and has gone on to be the heartbeat of the Muscle Shoals Sound with entities including FAME Publishing, FAME Recording Studios, FAME Records and Muscle Shoals Records. FAME moved to Muscle Shoals in 1961. FAME has worked in the studio with some of the Greatest artists in music history. Artists such as Aretha Franklin, Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Lou Rawls, Otis Redding, the Osmonds, Jerry Reed, Alabama, Mac Davis, the Gatlin Brothers, Bobbie Gentry and many others. In the last 60 plus years, FAME has been involved in recording or publishing records that have sold over 400 million copies world wide. Studio tours are available at both historical landmarks of the Muscle Shoal Sound! The area is full of things to experience, there is something for all ages and interests. It goes without saying that you cannot miss IVY GREEN... Helen Keller's birthplace and childhood home is visited by tourists from around the world who come to see the home, gardens and museum of America's first lady of courage. The interior of the main house, the birthplace cottage, the kitchen located behind the main house, plus the beautifully kept gardens are included on the tour, as is a stop at the famous well pump where Helen Keller first learned to speak her first word, w-a-t-e-r. While there, visit the side yard where gifts from around the world are displayed. You can listen to a recorded speech that Helen gave to the Lion's Club as she asked for their help in teaching the blind and deaf.

The Swampers were immortalized in Lynyrd Skynyrd’s legendary single “Sweet Home Alabama”: Now Muscle Shoals has got The Swampers And they’ve been known to pick a song or two (yes they do) Lord they get me off so much They pick me up when I’m feeling blue, now how ’bout you?

A MUST SEE!

2022 Gospel Music Fan Award

"That's Not Just A Cross In The Ground," is a timeless song penned by award-winning songwriter Mike Owens, and recorded by award-winning NewStep Records artist Mike Leichner. The song rose to the top of numerous charts and hosts unforgettable lyrics. The riveting video produced by One-Eight Studios - Cinematic Storytelling is a must see. The lyrics come alive in every frame of the film and each note of the exceptionally well performed song. The cross in the ground marks the spot a father lost his teenage son, the cross marks the grave a mother visits her son that gave his life for our freedom and the CROSS is the place our Heavenly Father send His only begotten Son to shed his blood and bring salvation to all.

GODLY WOMAN Passion In His Presence

It’s Monday morning and as soon as my feet hit the floor, I fall into my daily routine of getting the day started. Feeling small spurts of accomplishment, I mentally check off every box on the to do list in my brain as I go. It empowers me to do even more on the “Things To Do Today” list. After a series of checking off boxes, I’m finally awake enough to sit down for some quiet time with the Heavenly Father. I read Matthew 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” This verse is all too familiar to my walk with the Heavenly Father. I ask myself, “Do I deeply thirst for His righteousness and want to be filled? Yes!” Why? Because I have learned that what He has for me is way better than anything I could want for myself. Have I always felt this way? No, I have had my own personal dispassionate and dry seasons of faith when life was downright hard. I felt like I was stuck in a routine and just checking off another “to do” box. However, it was in continuing to show up in His presence that He heard my prayer and filled my soul with passion, to not just survive, but to thrive. For many of us the longer we walk with the Heavenly Father, the easier it is to put our faith on cruise control, filling it with Christian “activities”. But be assured, the Heavenly Father has so much more He wants to show and give us that can only be gained through a relationship with Him. God wants to teach us how to allow our mountain peaks to fill us with passion. Then, when we plunge into a valley, we can draw from our reserves of passion until we reach the top of a new mountain. This is what Psalm 84:7 means when it talks about growing from strength to strength. Are you in a season of life where your faith passion seems to be drifting? Do you remember a season where you felt excitement and joy in God’s presence and wish you could get back there again? Do you seek God’s guidance for ministering to others but fail to seek the joy you can access from your own relationship with Him? Is there something you can do to reignite your passion of faith? I’m so glad you asked!

34

Here are 3 ways to cultivate your passion for the Heavenly Father: Daily Commit To: #1.) Coming Humbly to God James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.” #2.) Practicing Godly Gratitude 1 Thessalonians 5:18 “In everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” #3.) Meditating On Scripture and The Great Things He Has Done In And Through You. Joshua 1:8 “Keep the Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Like David, many of us have had, or are having, a season in which internally we are longing for the Heavenly Father to restore the joy of our salvation ( Psalm 51:12 ) because life has knocked us down or we have fallen into Christian “cruise control." As followers of Jesus, we are always either growing closer to Him or drifting away from Him. God doesn’t want our commitment, He wants our total and complete surrender of the life He has given us. God wants relationship with each and everyone of us and that means: - We spend time with Him and He spends time with us. - We talk to Him and He talks to us. - We do things for Him and He does things for us. Passion in God’s presence means safety, shelter, peace, protection, strength, renewal, comfort, and rest for us. It is so easy for us to be in a hurry from day to day and check off those “to do” boxes. It is so important for us to have a passionate faith, a faith which only comes through intentionally seeking, walking, and talking with the Heavenly Father. Commit to spending daily time with Him. Put on your armor, set your sight on God, and finish your race in victory, being you, but reflecting Christ.

THE CROSSOVER

The song we sing out loud in the car, include in a memorable event, learn all the lyrics to and celebrate the music and the artist to which it belongs! It starts just like all other music finding a way in our life through feelings. It is the way it makes us feel! It's the song that brings us to a moment of worship or praise without intention from the artist. It is THE CROSSOVER! "Forever Country" is a 2016 performance by Artists of Then, Now & Forever, a one-time gathering of 30 country music artists. The song combines elements of three previous country hits: John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" (1971), Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" (1979), and Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" (1973). The song was recorded to commemorate the Country Music Association Awards reaching its 50th year. The song speaks about the heritage of the music and the empowerment of unity! Together we are Forever Country!

"THE POWER OF CHOICE" By Shane Roark

“Choice”… What a seemingly simple word. However, this word packs a bigger punch than most people in today's culture even realizes.

Choice (for the most part) is so mishandled and underrated these days. People like to say “it’s my choice and I can do whatever I want to do” and for the most part, that is true. People really can pretty much do whatever they want to do. We as Christians are shocked at this behavior. We feel as if the entire world has gone insane and we are the only ones that have any sense. I often feel the same way. But Is this concept of “I will do whatever I want” a new one? Not at all… As a matter of fact, Choice is the reasoning behind the creation of Adam and Eve. Adam was the first being to ever fully have the power of “Choice”. Given a will and a living soul, he was unique in his abilities. These are abilities that we share. We can choose to serve God, or not. It’s that simple. But the power of choice is not simple at all really. With this new found power of choice, Adam did what he wanted to do. Along with his wife Eve, they both chose to eat that forbidden fruit which threw the entire plan into a mess for thousands of years. Just imagine, 1 simple “Choice”. Now, often we hear the phrase “If it's God's will”. How does that come into play with our choices? If God could simply override the power of choice, he would’ve slapped that apple out of Eve's hand and killed that serpent on the spot. Why didn’t he? CHOICE. That is the ticket to this whole thing. God gave Adam (and us) a will and a soul and choice so that we could and would choose him. Those of you who have children, you want them to choose to love you. You want them to choose to spend time with you. That is what God wants as well. He can force the mountains to cry out and praise him but it's not the same. It is God's will that we are blessed and happy. But the choice to allow him into our lives and to be in control is ours to make. This is truly how powerful “choice” really is. One choice threw the entire world out of balance for thousands of years. It took Christ and his sacrifice to reset us. We seem to think that our choices do not pack that much power in today's time, they do. We make choices everyday but now we tend to feel as if they only affect us. “Its my choice” we will often say. And it is “our choice” but, what is the domino effect of those choices?

38

#THEGOSPELTRUTH What if Eve had chosen to “Not” eat that fruit? What if Abraham had made the choice to disobey God? What if David had never chosen to take Bathsheba? What if Noah had decided he was actually crazy and didn’t build the ark? What if Mary had chosen to not allow herself to be used by God to bring Christ to this world? What if Paul had made the choice to turn back to his old ways and abandon the call to ministry? You see my point here. This is the power of choice. Our choices potentially affect thousands and perhaps millions of people. How do we know? I have seen hundreds of people come to Christ through songs I have written. What if I had chosen to not write? What if I had chosen to not record and perform those songs? We do not know the ramifications of our choices. How do I know what those people went on to do or who they affected after the fact? I do not know and will never know on this side of Heaven. So, what if your choices are simple ones? Maybe you feel like your choices hurt or help no one. You’d be mistaken. Recently a lady went into the place where my daughter works. She felt as if she had been charged twice for the services that are offered there. My daughter explained that she was not charged twice but that the first mark was simply a “hold” on her card and the second the actual charge. The woman remained furious, she was not having the explanation or the alleged “Charge”. She called my daughter (who is brilliant and in her masters program at 21) an idiot. She yelled and called her names and threatened the company etc. Of course after reviewing her bank app, she discovered that my daughter was correct. She had not been charged twice at all. She offered no apology whatsoever. The lady continued her rant and told my daughter that the company should have that policy in writing and made it more clear to the customers. My daughter showed her the paper that the lady had been holding the entire time that outlined the hold and charge policy. This woman made a choice. A choice to be mean and hateful. It got her banned from that place of business. Now, you might think that the ramifications of her choice was made right by the fact that she was banned. Unfortunately, her choice to act like that does not end there. After she left, my daughter looked her up on Facebook. Her page is filled with scripture and posts about her church. It's full of posts about the love of God and the joy of Christ. It is hard enough to get young people to see the importance of God in their life, this woman made it really really hard for me. See, I don’t know her and never will but, her choice has affected my family. Be careful of your choices. That is what separates us from every other being ever made. Choices of words and actions can sometimes seem personal but often reach way further than we can ever realize. We should always choose God and his mindset. It should never be considered “it's my choice and I will do what I want”. It may be our choice, but we all affect one another and the entire world could be changed because of any one of us.

The Father's Business

FOCUS Jesus had focused purpose from the start saying as a teenager that He was about His Father's business. His Last words recorded in the Gospels were, “It is finished." Not everyone was healed or saved, Jesus had completed the work expected. In the same way, you cannot do everything. You have just enough time to do what God has called you to do for that day. He does not have more things for you to do in life than the time he gives you to do it.

DELEGATE Empowering others to serve and make Kingdom impact is a must for all ministries. God has called you into ministry, but he has not called you to do it alone. Jesus himself, who was perfect, enlisted and trained 12 people. That shows the need for partnering together to do ministry. Jesus needed community, So do you! Your ministry needs to outgrow you.

KNOW The most important work that you can do, the most significant priority to your ministry is to determine what God has called you to do...and what he has NOT called you to do. Once achieved you will find it much easier to connect with people that you connect with to further the Kingdom of God.

EMPOWERING THE PASSION

By Dee Leichner

Isaiah 52:1 (NASB) ‘Awake, Awake, Clothe yourself in your strength’ I love strong things!

America is a strong nation and we love strength in any manner. A gorilla can lift 10 times its body weight, around 2 tons. Strong. Silicon carbide almost matches a diamond in its hardness but surpasses it in strength. It was used as a basis to armor battle tanks and is so effective that not one British challenger tank was destroyed in Operation Desert Storm. Strong. Limpet teeth from a little sea creature are as strong as steel and tough as a bulletproof vest capable of withstanding the same amount of pressure it takes to turn carbon into a diamond. It is the strongest biological material on earth! Strong. The oribatid mite can resist a pull of 1,180 times its weight - similar to a human pulling 82 pounds, while the rhinoceros beetle can lift 850 times its body weight. For a man, that would be pressing 300,000 pounds or lifting 80 Toyota Camrys at one time. Strong. I have said many times through the years that I love strong coffee, strong tea, dark chocolate, strong preachers, strong Word and strong Christians. There is a dark chocolate with 100% cacao, a black tea with 86 milligrams of caffeine (that’s a lot) and a coffee guaranteed the strongest in the world with 200% more caffeine strength than average. So in terms of strong, if you drink a few cups of the coffee in the morning, snack on a bar of the chocolate with a cup of the tea in the afternoon, your heart will race, your tongue will curl up and you won’t need sleep until next year! But what about strong Christians? We are surrounded by strong in every manner known to man and yet there is no strong like the strong Word of God, the wonderful, Holy, loving, strong Son of God and the strong Holy Ghost of Heaven! What the Bible proclaims is that we need a Strong Spirit. A strong spirit is an excellent spirit. Proverbs 17:27 (KJV) ‘He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is an excellent spirit.’ The Amplified Bible Classic Version says it this way: ‘He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding has a cool spirit.’ There you have it, we’re cool. God came walking in the cool of the day in the Garden of Eden because God is cool. We are made in His image to be confident, full of knowledge, in control, cool and strong. Proverbs 24:10 (AMPC) ‘If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small. If you fall to pieces in a crisis then there wasn’t much to you in the first place.’ What an incredible verse! Have you ever known someone who just can’t carry on a conversation without being negative? How about someone who wants to appear weak for attention? Then there is the person who has a grudge that’s years old and they still can’t stop talking about it! I’m not referring to true needs or a legitimate cry for help but rather those who bring reproach on the testimony of Christ because of a lack of spiritual strength by choice. God has given us virtues of a strong spirit so we can live joyfully with power and strength. One is moral excellence and the other is power. Just like our natural body, we are not strong automatically, we must exercise and work at it.

42

When someone offends you, cover that offense with the Word, pray and get over it, you’ll become stronger. Things don’t go right, out of patience, someone betray you, lie about you? Same remedy. It is an ongoing work. Luke 11:21 ‘When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own palace, his goods are in peace.’ So our strong spirit will sustain us until we are well established and in powerful control, Amen! A strong spirit is a sustainer during the pressures of life and will get you through anything. We become strong through the Word of God, through applying it to our lives, through persistent prayer and times of fasting. Ephesians 4:27 ‘Neither give place to the devil’ or in a modern translation ‘don’t give the devil a chance, don’t give him a way to defeat you.’ Strength in Jesus gives us the power of resistance. The word in this verse ‘place’ is the Greek word (topos). It is where we get our word topography, on the surveying and measuring of land. So when the Bible says don’t give the devil any place, it is because if you give him a crack he’ll come on in, he’ll take some territory. You can crack it with unresolved anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, gossip & backbiting, the list is long. The great thing to know is that a strong spirit gives us the power to resist the enemy and places us in a position of resistance. 2 Timothy 2:1 (NKJV) ‘You therefore my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.’ A weak spirit makes us subject to the devil but a strong spirit causes us to receive from God-praise the Lord for that! It’s kind of like fishing. Without the right line or rod (Word or response) you might hook a fish but you won’t bring it home. The fight will wear you out and the fish might get away. I’m not so big on fishing but I went on a boat with husband and children out in the gulf at Galveston. I was feeling the motion of the sea when I hooked something big! They said, ‘lean into it and pull back, lean in and pull back. So I am leaning and rocking one way and the boat is rolling back and forth with the waves. I decided that fish couldn’t be worth the agony my stomach was experiencing but my family was cheering me on so I kept fighting. The deck hand said, ’good thing she has the heavy test line and double the leader, reel it in reel it in!’ I just kept telling myself ‘one more minute, I can do it, one more minute, and then - I brought in a shark! It was only because my strong spirit wouldn’t let me let it go! The moral of that story is that it is one thing to have something on your ‘faith hook’ but it is something else to reel it home and make it yours. It takes a strong spirit. You may need to strap yourself in to fight it through. Every breakthrough on your hook may go left, pull the line taunt and double back on you but spiritual strength will bring it on home. Ephesians 6:1 ‘Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.’ So, fix some strong tea, take a bite of chocolate, pull up to the mighty Word and let God strengthen you right now!

ON THE ROAD READS The Preparation Of A Wineskin Jesus came to humanity with the potent strength and power of the New Wine of Heaven. In Luke 5:37, He said that no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Understanding this phrase compels us toward His ultimate goal for our lives. When purpose is revealed, promise follows! The Bible tells us that God's Spirit is changing us from glory to glory. There is always another realm to enter, as He continually renews us. As His wineskin for the powerful New Wine, the child of God is being prepared for the next level, for the pouring in of New Wine. This empowers us for the future. We want a glorious disturbance in our lives, not an old bottle exploding. Today is the time to respond to the New Wine's Holy stirring in our life!
