Artist Spotlight

Hailing from Lexington, Kentucky - Singer/songwriter Anne Wilson knows the healing power of music firsthand. The lyrics of Hillsong Worship’s “What A Beautiful Name” became a lifeline for the Lexington, Kentucky native after her brother was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 23. Although she spent much of her childhood behind a piano, Wilson sang in front of an audience for the first time at her brother’s funeral. It was at that moment that she realized what she was born to do. With a mesmerizing voice and a visible hunger for Jesus, the 20-year-old relies on personal journal entries and time spent in nature for songwriting inspiration. “Hey Girl,” was released to Christian radio in September 2022, as the third single from her debut studio album, My Jesus. The anthem style song for all girls of any age was penned by Wilson along with Jeff Pardo and Matthew West. The song has three versions, one specifically called “The Kentucky Version." With an overwhelming reception by audiences on all platforms, the single “Hey Girl” debuted on the October 2022 Power Source Christian Country chart at #31 followed by a staggering climb to #1 on the November 2022 Power Source Christian Country chart. Her song, “My Jesus,” charted on the Spotify Viral 50, Shazam Top 200, and Rolling Stone Top 25 Trending charts. Her story was also featured with the Religion News Service and The Washington Post. She made her Opry debut on the iconic stage in September 2021. Wilson was featured in Billboard Magazine as the October 2021 Chartbreaker artist, and Wilson's “My Jesus” received a 2022 Billboard Music Award for “Top Christian Song” of the year. Power Source, A TenFiftySeven Media Magazine salutes ANNE WILSON and “HEY GIRL” – we are excited to see all that the future holds for this incredibly talented young artist!

MEGAN ALEXANDER EMMY NOMINATED NATIONAL HOST, AUTHOR, SPEAKER, ACTRESS, AND BUSINESS OWNER It’s a November night interrupted by flashing lights, sirens and crowds of people, there is a firetruck along with several police cars, but its not an emergency, it is the arrival of Megan Alexander at the 2022 Pigeon Forge Winterfest Kickoff.

8

Arriving aboard a firetruck escorted by Santa Claus himself, the crowd is cheering loudly as Megan greets the City Mayor on stage to flip the switch, turning the amazing Christmas lights on for the Winterfest celebration. This is a moment in the very busy schedule of Megan Alexander, an Emmy nominated national host, author, speaker, actress, producer, business owner, wife, and mother. This night, she is not only hosting this popular event in the iconic Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, she is also filming the second season of her show, A Small Town Christmas. She is the steady professional with a talented eye for what the audience wants and a priority of excellence, all this while being simply nice to all she works with or encounters. We got a moment to chat with this amazing woman about all things Megan Alexander. “Accepting Jesus into my heart at age five, singing in the choir in high school,” expressed Megan about significant memories of childhood that are rooted in her heart, “all those worship songs come back and keep me grounded.” Alexander was born and raised in Seattle, WA 9

and attended King’s High School and graduated from Westmont College. “I love the collaborative side of the entertainment business, the creating, producing…I always knew I wanted to do something in Entertainment,” said Megan, “putting it all together to give people a final product they can experience and enjoy.” At five years old, she jumped onto the entertainment scene by calling a radio station to request an Amy Grant song followed by a trip to New York City at age twenty that resulted in being interviewed by Today Show host, Ann Curry as Alexander stood with friends outside the studio. “I want to do this someday!” exclaimed Megan. You can hear and see Megan on a variety of outlets, like the syndicated national news magazine television show INSIDE EDITION, CBS television shows, Fox News, Lifetime, the Hallmark Channel, UPtv and more. What is learned within Megan’s story is that from the start she designed a life of which her faith and career would co-exist. Alexander has experienced success building a career in the competitive television industry without compromising her faith. She also knows the difficulty of that for Christian women which was the inspiration of her first published book, Faith in the Spotlight. In Faith in the Spotlight, Megan gives inspiring, real-life examples of why women can —and should—lead in the workplace. Drawing on her experience, she offers advice for plotting a career path, negotiating job contracts, competing, and succeeding with the best and the brightest, and navigating difficult situations while maintaining strong faith and values. Being versatile is a description that fits Megan well, she is willing to give all her passions a time on the schedule. From childhood she acted in plays and commercials. Her first major acting role was the lead in the independent film, Something to Prove. “I love acting, playing someone totally different,” said Alexander. Just after moving to Nashville, she auditioned for the music video of Josh Turner’s What it Ain’t and she got the part. Recently Megan and Josh reunited at an event, chatting about the fun experience of that music video. Doing great work and enjoying the moments along the way is a signature process for this multi-talented woman. Loving and singing Christian Country and Gospel music for her entire life, it was a natural fit for Megan when the Inspirational Country Music Association named her as the host of their televised award show annually. At the last award show, Alexander was joined by her oldest son, Chace, who presented awards to the winners. “This was so neat, Chace takes things very seriously, he wanted to make sure he did it right and I was so happy to share that experience with him.” Said Megan, “I try to take him along whenever I can.” Megan is mother to three children, Chace 11, Catcher 7, and Capri 3 whom she describes as equally wonderful and totally different. She shares this amazing life journey with her husband, Brian, whom she married in 2008. “ He is my best friend, wonderful supportive partner and Father to our kiddos,” she shared, “he really shoulders the load when I travel.” The duo met when they were young teenagers but did not date until in their twenties. They have shared often and openly about their faith in dating, marriage and setting the standard of excellence in their relationship and family. 10

Her family is the inspiration igniting the passion of writing children’s books to share with her kids, all kids. “I write books I want to read to my kids,” shared Megan. The first, One More Hug, is a timeless tale of unconditional love and comfort for an anxious young boy as he leaves the nest and starts his journey through life, a perfect story for mothers to share with their sons. The second, released this year, The Magic of A Small Town Christmas, is a sweet book celebrating the joys, wonders, and traditions of a small-town Christmas in the spirit of her show, Small Town Christmas. There is no stopping Megan Alexander from being inspired and being an inspiration. She is following her passions and calling. When asked about her “secret” to success in the balance of work and family, Megan replied, “There is no secret and no such thing as balance, you just do your best and learn to say no.” The advice that followed shows exactly why we watch her shows, read her books, and love any moments experience with Megan Alexander. We all learned to pay close attention to the words of the Bible written in red, so let’s highlight these very important words from Megan’s heart as she closed this interview. “Again, throw away a word like “balance” and just dig into your Bible, ask God for his advice. Learn who you really are – your dos and don’ts. I don’t know the answer to everything but I do know learning to draw the line on things before you find yourself in that situation will be helpful. What are your blacks and whites? What is your moral compass? Who are you in this world? Find good role models, ask them questions and for their advice. As my dad said when I graduated college, Meg, the finals are never over.” – Megan Alexander

"IDIOTS"

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? By Shane Roark

Before you cast judgement on me because of the title of this piece, let me at least explain myself. We are all a part of a culture now that is so very concerned with “feelings”. Even when someone does something blatantly stupid, we are supposed to be supportive as to not hurt their “feelings”. This is not what the Bible says. In fact, this is quite the opposite of the Bible. This concept is relatively new and created by people. Often you can trace such concepts back to lazy, unmotivated, happy with average, doing nothing, accomplishing nothing, mooching off others, wave riding, don’t care kind of people. No one who is a doer, or an accomplished of things would EVER want their ‘feelings” spared in exchange for subpar work or potential failure. Only a FOOL would want that. That brings us to the teachings in the Scripture. First let's identify the word “Fool” …. Websters American Dictionary says this: Fool (noun) a silly or stupid person who lacks judgement or sense. So, it's safe to say that a Fool and an Idiot are pretty much the same thing. With that in mind, let's dig in!

16

The Bible is CLEAR on how to deal with a Fool

perishing, but to us who are being saved it is

(idiot). Psalm 14:1 The idiot says in his heart

the power of God. This tells us that idiots in

“there is no God." This tells us that only an idiot

the world will perish and destroy themselves

would say that. We have the highest number

and then say that Christ and the word of God

is stupid. Sound familiar? This is where we are

against the Lord. We’ve all seen this happen.

This is going on all around us. Idiots setting up

Some idiot does something stupid, ruins their

the word tells us. That's like building on the

that we are to coddle these people, counsel

come, they fall apart. But we are supposed to

feel good about themselves. 1 Cor 1:18 For the

let these people destroy themselves and say

nothing? We can’t hurt their feelings!!

#THEGOSPELTRUTH Now I know what some of you are saying: 2 Cor 11:19 For ye suffer fools gladly, seeing yourselves are wise. So, this can be a little confusing. It may appear as if we should put up with idiots because we are wise. But this is not what this scripture means. This simply means that we have no choice but to tolerate idiots around us. We do not have license to be hateful to the foolish. This simply means to those of us who are seeking wisdom and excellence, that we have to understand that idiots are everywhere, and we have to be content in the fact that we are not among them. So how do we deal with these people when we have no choice? Well, there is Bible for that too. Proverbs 26:4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will also be like him. This tells us to NOT speak with an idiot based on their opinions or ridiculous concepts. That’s a conversation that will cause us to look like an idiot ourselves. Proverbs 14:7 Leave the presence of a fool, or you will not discern words of knowledge. Spend time hanging out with idiots, you will not even know when knowledge and wisdom is being spoken. DO NOT HANG OUT WITH THEM! Proverbs 29:9 If a wise man has an argument with a fool, the fool only rages and laughs and there is NO quiet. This is a BIG BIG warning! This tells us that arguing with an idiot is a "no win" situation. The idiot will just get mad, laugh in your face, and carry on and on until there is literally no shutting them up. There are numerous scriptures in the Bible to direct us on how to deal with idiots in the world. I found nearly 80 such scriptures without even trying that hard. The Bible is FACT, the Bible is truth, and therefore a directive for us to live by. There is no reference to protecting the fragile “feelings” of an idiot! Being a fool is a choice. There is ZERO excuse (as far as I am concerned) for acting like an idiot! Therefore, I have no problem taking a biblical stance with these people. Call me rude if you want, but I will simply walk away. I refuse to be lured into conversation with idiots or even waste my time with them. This also applies to texting with an idiot or having a Facebook argument with an idiot. Do I care for their soul? Absolutely! I try my best to pray for these people. But even God will not always deal with an idiot. The book of Romans tells us that someone can choose that path so long that God eventually gives up on them. Romans 1:18-28 My point here is simple…. Do what the word of God tells us to do. Leave these idiots to themselves. Stop getting stressed out, stop letting them get to you, don’t let them steal your joy. There's nothing you or I or anyone else can do about someone “choosing” to be an idiot. And we have the Bible to back us up if we choose to REFUSE their company and conversation. And when engaging them online, use that BLOCK button. That's what it is there for.

Small Town Christmas with Megan Alexander Hosted by Inside Edition’s national correspondent and best-selling author Megan Alexander, each episode takes viewers to experience Christmas in a different small town around the country. Through food, drink, music, entertainment, and faith, highlighting local businesses and towns that are making Christmas special in their own unique way. As the "Christmas City," Bethlehem takes its name seriously, from their famous “Christkindmarket,” which features local arts and crafts, the Christmas City stroll with horse drawn trolley rides, and more.

Then it was time to take it south to the featured town of the hit movie Steel Magnolias, a small town that lives up to the hype. Exploring Natchitoches, Louisiana complete with holiday fireworks over the water, those famous local meat pies and celebrating the honor of the Miss Merry Christmas pageant. The southern hospitality was unmatched, as well as the magic of the festival of lights. The final episode of the premier season was hosted by Summerville, South Carolina, the birthplace of Sweet Tea. This small town turns into a Christmas movie during the Holidays with main street tree lighting, the local ice-skating park, famous Christmas window displays and highlighted by some of the oldest church services in the South.

ALL FOR HIS GLORY I turn on my Country Christmas playlist as I unpack the boxes that I’ve retrieved from storage. They are full of Christmas décor, memories, smells, media, etc. set aside for just this specific time of year. Suddenly the music begins to overpower my thoughts as I listen to the lyrics dance beautifully in their rich melody: Come now, there it shines so bright To the knowing light of the stable Lean close to the child so dear Cast aside your fear…. This Emmylou Harris song, written by Steve & Elizabeth Rhymer, was released in November of 1979 by Warner Records on the Light of The Stable Christmas album. The Light of The Stable captures my thoughts and causes me think about how the Glory of the Lord was shone in Luke 2:9. I remember how Moses asked the Lord to “show me Your glory” in Exodus 33:18. The glory of God is how the invisible God reveals Himself in a physical world. When we sin, we fall short of the glory of God because we fall short of being like Him. However, we can glorify God by doing what He would have done here on earth. As believers we have been given spiritual gifts that are all different, but all are given to serve the same Spirit. When you serve in your area of giftedness, God gets glory, others you serve are helped, you become energized and affirmed in doing what God created you to do. Your gift doesn’t make you better than someone else who is serving with a different gift. Your giftedness doesn’t make you better than someone else. If you are seemingly more gifted than others, your gift has nothing to do with you. It is God given for the common good of others not for our own personal advantage. It’s one thing to start walking the believers’ walk with God. It’s another to devote your entire life to using these gifts, stick to the walk, all the while remembering to give Him all the honor, glory, and praise that He deserves. Jesus suffered what He did not deserve in order to give us what we do not deserve, forgiveness, abundant life here on earth, and an indescribable, unimaginable home in Heaven. Living whole heartedly for His glory may not matter much to you right now, but it’s the only thing that will matter on that day when you see the light of the stable face to face. Are you giving Him the glory in all you say, do, think, speak, give etc.? He is Light of The Stable, He is King of Kings, He Is The Great I Am, He Is A Mighty Fortress. We should always be striving to become more, to do more, to give more, and let our light shine more before men, so that they may see our good works, and give Glory to God in Heaven (Matt. 5:16)

It’s a Sevier County Christmas in the Smoky Mountains! It happens each November to February as lights are turned on and the most popular Tennessee destination becomes a winter wonderland of Christmas lights. Not just one city within this county, it is the whole county – from exit 407 of I-40 leading you to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, all the way through to the most visited entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s Smoky Mountain Winterfest! It’s a Must Experience for Everyone! 30

Viewing Smoky Mountain Winterfest lights is a great way to get in the holiday spirit and with more than 15 million lights, there’s certainly plenty of looking to do. Upon your exit from the interstate, you will be immersed in the beauty of the light displays and you cannot miss the Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland at Smokies Stadium (located at exit 407). This 1.5-mile drive through LED light and music experience is considered one of the most immersive drive-through Christmas experiences. On your way to downtown Sevierville you can check out new drive-thru Christmas adventure at Wilderness at the Smokies this year. Traveling through the county seat of Sevierville, the businesses and residents do not disappoint with their involvement in this annual holiday event, it simply spectacular to view. And you guessed it, the most popular outlet mall, Tanger Outlet – Sevierville, is a holiday hub with nearly 150 name brand outlet stores and specialty retail shops. Music fills the air all around the mall, you can sing along as you shop. You can even take a piece of Winterfest home by visiting stores like Country Christmas &Collectibles where Winterfest style lighting displays are for sale. Just on past the Sevierville Tanger Outlet Mall, as you continue to enjoy the beauty of the light displays, is Pigeon Forge, driving down the parkway will treat you to a view of the 12 Days of Christmas in lights. You have entered the heart of the most popular tourist destination and the home of Dollywood. Christmas is a magical time at Dollywood with Smoky Mountain Christmas, an award-winning festival known for being the best across America. Also experience Glacier Ridge, showcasing a 50-foot video motion Christmas tree. There is so much to do in Pigeon Forge with all the attractions and businesses creating a winter extravaganza. New this year is a glowing showstopper along the Riverwalk Trail near the Island attraction. Many of the light displays are massive towering 25 feet tall. There are 40 light displays just in Pigeon Forge, the opportunity for making memories is spectacular. And the SHOWS!! Don’t miss the best in Christmas music shows – the choices cover all genres and age groups. Next up in the drive is town snuggled in the mountains, the place where famous song Rocky Top was written and where for more than 30 years, Gatlinburg has celebrated Winterfest with millions of twinkling lights on festive holiday displays throughout the city. Everything is coming up Christmas in Gatlinburg from Ripley’s Aquarium to Ober Ski Resort. On the left as you come into downtown is an incredible attraction call Anakeesta where they are bring the stars to us. Immerse yourself in illuminating encounters of lighting, projection, and sound, and connect with the stars before they return to the sky above. Astra Lumina at Anakeesta is the 15th experience in the Lumina Enchanted Night Walk series, and the very first in the United States. Keep your ears open to hear all the Christmas sounds in downtown Gatlinburg. Another incredible attraction transformation to experience is Gatlinburg SkyLift Park with thousands of twinkling lights, holiday displays and sparkling trees dancing to music. The record-breaking SkyBridge is a glowing tunnel of lights sprinkled with snowflakes. The SkyTrail is lined with dancing trees accompanied by music. Make sure to travel the Gatlinburg Bypass to stop off at a pull over, the view of the lights is beyond description. By day the entire area of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg offer a holiday experience unmatched anywhere, BUT the best plan is to spend the day, those daylight hours in the most visited National Park in the United States, THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK. The beauty of this national treasure is a must do and is the only national park that is free to visit. Spend the day driving or hiking in the park, then back into town for a yummy dinner that will have everyone ready to experience Winterfest in the Smokies.

THe Real 12 days of Christmas Written in the 16th century, this popular Christmas song was used to teach children the basic doctrines of the Bible. In the 16th century, England proclaimed an official state church, and any other religious teaching was strictly forbidden. For over 300 years, the free expression of Christian Living was not allowed. It was during this time that people fled England for a new life in America and with Christian parents were looking for a new way to teach their children the basic doctrines of the Bible. Personally, I like to think it is evidence of the first Christian Country songwriting, using secret Christian symbols through the lyrics of a song! Someone composed this cheerful song, about a generous benefactor who loved to give, could be freely sung without ever using God’s name— You see, “MY TRUE LOVE” refers to God!

A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The partridge was known as a valiant bird— willing to FIGHT to the DEATH to defend it’s young— Jesus was fighting for you & I as He cried, “IT IS FINISHED!” Even in the tomb He was fighting for us—IN 3 DAYS He fought His way out of DEATH’S grip! This bird’s readiness to DIE for it’s young made it an ancient Christian symbol of Christ! Jesus still fights for us, even today. He fights our battles… He comes to our aid in times of need!

TWO TURTLE DOVES The 2 turtle doves are the Old & New Testaments or Covenants. Prior to the 16th century, the common man was not allowed to read the Holy Scriptures for himself. The Protestant Reformation & Martin Luther changed all of that. In these two testaments, God reveals Himself to a lost world! All through the Bible, He shows us WHO HE IS! THE WORD OF GOD SAYS: He is the Alpha & the Omega, the first & the last, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, the Rose of Sharon, the Bright & Morning Star, Wonderful, Counselor, the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father, My Master, My closest Friend, My Teacher, My comforter, My shield, My buckler, My Anchor…

THREE FRENCH HENS French Hens were very valuable poultry during the 16th century—only the rich could afford them! These costly birds symbolized the 3 valuable gifts given by the three wise men Matthew 2:10-11 “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” GOLD—the most valuable commodity in the world today! FRANKINCENSE—used by Jewish High Priests as they would enter into the Holy of Holies! MYRRH—expensive spices used for burials! WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM!

33

FOUR CALLING BIRDS These reveal the four Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John. John 20:30-31 “And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” Like birds calling out with LOUD & distinctive voices, these four Gospels spread abroad the GOOD NEWS of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection! Four Calling Birds reminds us that we too, need to be trumpets. Too many times we are SILENT TRUMPETS in a LOUD WORLD!

FIVE GOLDEN RINGS Gold rings are among the most valuable and treasured of all Gifts—Engagement Rings, Wedding Bands, etc. To be treated with great reverence & respect— These five golden rings represent the first five books of the Old Testament—Known to Jews as the Pentateuch. Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, & Deuteronomy. Above all the other Old Testament writings it shares: The Creation, The Fall of Man, History of the God’s Chosen People and THE TEN COMMANDMENTS! Every child in America needs to be RE-introduced to God’s Ten Commandments!

SIX GEESE A-LAYING In many cultures, EGGS symbolize new life. 6 geese laying eggs become reminders of the six days of creation when God, by His Word, brought forth life on earth. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” 31 “Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So, the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” Not only did God create this world, but He also SUSTAINS it— The CREATIVE HAND OF GOD hung the sun, moon, & stars in the heavens…and He Placed the Earth in position and said, “STAY THERE!”

SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING The seven swans are symbols of the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit! Romans 12:5-8 “So, we being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” Just as baby swans grow and change from “ugly ducklings” into beautiful and graceful birds. So do God’s children grow and change through the work of the Holy Spirit!

EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING This symbolizes the eight beatitudes! Eight unique teaching of Jesus from His Sermon on the Mount. THEY NURTURE & STRENGTHEN US MUCH AS THE WAY MILK NOURISHES A CHILD! Matthew 5:2-12 And (Jesus) opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 1) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 2) Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted. 3) Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 4) Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 5) Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 6) Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 7) Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 8) Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” The word “blessed” means, “spiritual joy & satisfaction that LASTS regardless of conditions. That carries one through pain, sorrow, loss, and grief. IT’S WHAT CAUSED: Daniel to sleep all night in a LION’S DEN— He was BLESSED! IT MAKES ME WANT TO SING: I AM BLESSED!

NINE LADIES DANCING These nine ladies dancing represent the 9 Fruit of the Spirit! Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” These are in OPPOSITION to the WORKS of the FLESH! The FRUIT of the SPIRIT are VICTORIOUS! LET IT GO!

35

TEN LORDS A LEAPING (Lords were men with authority to command people’s obedience.) Ten Lords a-leaping symbolize God’s ten basic laws— THE TEN COMMANDMENTS! You shall have no other gods before me Do not make an idol Do not take God’s name in vain Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it Holy Honor your father and mother Do not murder Do not commit adultery Do not steal Do not bear false witness Do not covet

ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING This symbolizes the 11 apostles who were chosen by Jesus and remained faithful to Him. Like children joyfully following a piper, these disciples followed Jesus, they also called others to follow HIM. The Bible teaches us that the original apostles of Jesus were Peter; James; John; Andrew; Philip; Judas Iscariot; Matthew; Thomas; James, the son of Alpheus; Bartholomew; Judas Thaddeus; and Simon Zelotes. They piped an everlasting tune—the salvation message!

TWELVE DRUMMERS DRUMMING Just as drummers beat out a loud, steady rhythm for marchers to follow, so the Apostle’s Creed sets forth the beliefs of those who call themselves Christians. These drummers represent the 12 vital Christian beliefs as stated in the Apostle’s Creed: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

MY CHRISTMAS LIST When I was a child, Christmas was my favorite time of year. It was always exciting to look through the Sears or Monkey Wards catalogue (yes that's what we called it!) to make my wish list. I knew Christmas was to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but it was hard not to get more excited about wondering what surprises were in the packages under the tree. As I grew older my desires for Christmas began to change. I no longer wanted toys; I wanted gifts more age appropriate. It also became more important to be a giver as well as a receiver. I began to get joy out of giving gifts to family and friends. That was especially true after I became a father. Giving gifts to my children has always brought me joy. As we grow older, our desires begin to change. Christmas becomes all about God's gift of his son Jesus. It becomes about showing the love of God to others as well as giving gifts. Once again, Christmas is nearly upon us and I'm thinking of my Christmas list. What will be on it? The things on my list are not in any order, they are just as I've thought of them. My list: 1. I want peace in America. I want our country to go back to the Judeo/Christian values we were founded on. Our society is so divided and fractured. There is so much hatred and conflict in our country and I believe Jesus is the only one who can bring the peace we need. 2. I want unity in the Body of Christ. Denominations need to unify in love and not concentrate so much on our doctrinal differences but work together to spread the love of God. I believe this wish directly affects our Christian Country genre. Many churches are closed to us, and that shouldn't be. Churches should be open to any ministry that promotes Jesus, in my opinion. 3. I want household salvation. Many Christian families have children and grandchildren who've strayed from the traditional values they were taught. I have children and grandchildren that have done that. I have friends who've done the same. I'm believing God to change their minds, to bring them back to the truth.

38

It's a short list but it's what I want the most this year. My family will have the traditional Christmas with presents around the tree, children excitedly opening gifts and of course a Christmas feast! There'll be lots of pictures taken and shared on social media. Memories will be made and cherished. I may not see everything on my list fulfilled this year, but I will see it come to pass eventually. If I don't see it before I die, my prayers will outlive me, and I'll see it in eternity. The family circle will be unbroken. I declare it! My faith is in God. I'm depending on His abundant Grace and Love to bring all these things to pass. So, that's what I want for Christmas. What about you? I believe if we come together and pray for these things, they will happen. Cogitate on this...

Merry Christian Country Christmas Everyone! Gene Reasoner

THE CROSSOVER The song we sing out loud in the car, include in a memorable event, learn all the lyrics to and celebrate the music and the artist to which it belongs! It starts just like all other music finding a way in our life through feelings. It is the way it makes us feel! It's the song that brings us to a moment of worship or praise without intention from the artist. It is THE CROSSOVER! "Christmas, Why Can't I Find You?" is a song written by Mariah Carey, James Horner and Will Jennings for the movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000. In the film, it is first sung by Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy Lou Who. Mariah Carey wrote a full-length pop version of the song with additional lyrics, renamed "Where Are You Christmas?", for the film's soundtrack. The song was originally recorded by Carey, but never released. Faith Hill re-recorded her rendition of the song, releasing it on December 11, 2000. The lyrics work well into the storyline of the movie, and yet in the true sense of the reason for this season, it works even better. The lyrics describe a person searching for faith (Christmas), wondering if it changes as they have been changed and rearranged by life. The search within the lyrics is finalized by the finding of the faith, that it has always been there, never changing and existing in the heart. The unintentional crossover of this movie soundtrack created a timeless Christmas song to always remind of the true reason for this Season!! Oh, hmm Where are you Christmas Why can't I find you Why have you gone away Where is the laughter You used to bring me Why can't I hear music play My world is changing I'm rearranging Does that mean Christmas changes too Where are you Christmas Do you remember The one you used to know I'm not the same one See what the time's done Is that why you have let me go Christmas is here Everywhere, oh Christmas is here If you care, oh If there is love in your heart and your mind You will feel like Christmas all the time Oh, I feel you Christmas I know I've found you You never fade away, oh The joy of Christmas Stays here inside us Fills each and every heart with love Where are you Christmas Fill your heart with love 40

SINGING MAKES LEGEND By Rebecca Higgins

Imagine yourself a young British soldier. You left home in the beautiful summer of warmth and sunshine and now you find yourself in a dark, cold, clammy, dirty, and miserable trench dug in the dirt somewhere in Europe. You are fighting a war “they” said would be over by now, but it has been a long six months since you have arrived. It is now officially winter and your first Christmas away from home dawns tomorrow. It is good that you don’t know there are four more years of fighting ahead and that 9 million soldiers and just as many civilians will die from this Great War surrounding you. .

You hear noise from across No Man’s Land. What now? Could be anything. Who knows what they are up to over there? But suddenly it becomes clear. Singing. The Germans are singing Christmas Carols. This begins one of the oddest incidents in modern warfare. A completely unplanned, unannounced, and very unauthorized truce along parts of the front-line during World War One. A Christmas Truce observed by British, French, German, and Belgian units on the Western Front. Both sides emerged out into the area between the lines, known as No Man’s Land, where they met each other. There were greetings and handshakes, exchanges of news, food and tobacco along with other souvenirs and singing of carols. The soldiers held friendly soccer matches or at least tried to kick around a makeshift ball for amusement. There is even a story of haircuts being given. About 100,000 troops participated in this Christmas Truce. It is not as well documented, but there are reports that there were some similar cease-fires on the Eastern Front between the Russians and Austro-Hungarians. It could be called a Christmas miracle. It only happened this one year and has become legend. It has been talked about in books, magazine articles, newspapers, and there have been movies made and songs sung about the events of the day. The television show Doctor Who did a Christmas Special based around it. Garth Brooks even has a song “Belleau Wood” that is a fictionalized version of these events. In 2014 Prince William unveiled a monument called “Football Remembers” in honor of this truce. The only unfortunate thing about this Truce is that it could not be repeated. Higher Headquarters on both sides frowned upon what is by letter of the law “fraternization with the enemy” and orders were given to prevent a repeat. Raids and artillery barrages were encouraged the next year. German soldiers were reminded that fraternization is treason. The fact remains that this Christmas Truce left a legacy of peace breaking out in the middle of war. It is a beautiful example of the connection of people in the harshest of circumstances. And it started with songs for Christmas. On a last “note” if you are interested in hearing what the end of the war may have sounded like go to this link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/comments/9w01po/recording_reveals_the_moment_guns_fell_silent_at/ The Imperial War Museum used the Sound Ranging techniques used to locate artillery in the war to recreate that moment linked to above. Information on the technique can be found here: https://www.iwm.org.uk/history/sound-ranging-explained

The Illustrated London News's illustration of the Christmas Truce: "British and German Soldiers Arm-in-Arm Exchanging Headgear: A Christmas Truce between Opposing Trenches" The sub-caption reads "Saxons and AngloSaxons fraternizing on the field of battle at the season of peace and goodwill: Officers and men from the German and British trenches meet and greet one another— A German officer photographing a group of foes and friends." One Night on Earth with Janelle Arthur Black Sheep recording artist, Janelle Arthur, is releasing her self-penned, new Christmas song “One Night On Earth,” featuring award-winning artists, The Isaacs. The song’s captivating melody and rich imagery has the feel of a traditional Christmas classic, and perfectly captures the power and beauty of the nativity. Arthur’s sweet and reverent vocals, blended with the matchless shimmering harmonies of The Isaacs, will leave the listener with chills, as well as a renewed appreciation of how the world changed all in one night. “While in the writing room with Helene Cronin and Adam Wheeler, we were all feeling a weight of uncertainty that day,” recalls Arthur about writing session. “We left with a song that not only reminded us of why we love to write music, but also how thankful we are for the gifts we’ve been given. We feel that this is an extremely special song and message of hope.” The thoughtful, contemplative new ballad is out now, just in time for the upcoming Christmas season – a time when, in the midst of everyday life, we can all stand to stop and focus for a moment on that peaceful and special “One Night On Earth.”

Janelle Arthur is no stranger to the spotlight. By the tender age of eight, the Tennessee native was performing at Dollywood portraying her musical hero, a young Dolly Parton. Since then, she has performed thousands of shows, has had the opportunity to be a guest on NBC's Access Hollywood, The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Today in Nashville, ABC's The Kelly & Michael Show, and she and her music have been featured by hundreds of outlets including People and CMT. Thanks to her loyal followers, Arthur's social media fan base has exceeded 150k on combined social media networks. As an entertainer, the 2013 American Idol alumn has had the privilege of opening shows and festivals for or performing with country superstars including Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Justin Moore, Vince Gill, Rascal Flatts, Craig Morgan, and The Band Perry. Her lifetime dream to perform on the world-famous Grand Ole Opry became a reality in 2013, and she has since been a repeated guest.

Janelle performing "One Night on Earth" live at Winterfest 2022

As a daughter of the South steeped in family ties, tradition, and truthfulness, Janelle Arthur’s music is reflective of who she is and exemplifies her way of life. As evidenced in “Love You Anyway,” a compelling song written by Arthur (featuring multi-Grammy award winner Vince Gill, and which appears on her self-titled EP) is honest, persuasive, and real as well as "Hand Me Downs," a song she co-wrote - the lyrics are timeless, and illuminate what really matters; family, inherited traits, heirlooms, and pride in our heritage. The song also happens to be a duet with Arthur's idol, the incomparable Dolly Parton. In March, Arthur released her sassy single "What Would Dolly Do," a perfect homage to the legend, who has touched so many lives in so many ways and made them better, and most recently, Arthur released her current single, "DNA," a song about the "quirky reality" of family dynamics. Janelle Arthur has proven to be one of the most promising multi-dimensional entertainers since Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire with her inherent ability to connect with audiences through film, television, and live shows. She moved to Nashville to pursue her passion for songwriting and plans to create music for the rest of her life.
