children and adults increasing domestic violence, child labor, depression and anxiety around the communities in Mae Sot. In order to tackle these problems PlayOnside has also adapted its program and developed different projects

PLAYONSIDE | 1

Emotional Resilience Program PlayOnside is implementing an urgent Emotional Resilience Program (ERP) for migrant communities in Thailand during the COVID‐19 pandemic. The program

has

reimagined

and

redesigned

a

sustainable Migrant Education (ME) framework as we prepare for new normality of social distancing, equitable quality education and flexible small‐scale educational solutions. ERPs objectives are to provide support for children and parents affected by the COVID‐19

by

organizing

activities

in

the

communities addressing different topics related to

Star Flower School Star Flower Center (SFC) is the main Special Needs Education Migrant Learning Center in the Thai-Myanmar border that PlayOnside has been supporting through sports activities for over three years. Due to the COVID-19, PlayOnside

has

adapted

its

program

empowering and encouraging the children by play-based

activities

and

supporting

and

promoting capacity building for the SFC’s staff.

In order to achieve these goals, POS plans each lesson based on the Individual Educational Program,

an

integral

approach

taking

in

account the potentiality of each student; which has an impact in four different areas: the cognitive, physical, social and emotional.

The Youth Tournament As it is mentioned above the youth is one of the groups that is suffering the most the impact of Covid-19 In Mae Sot. In order to assist and provide support to this target group PlayOnside, following the

protocols

and

asking

for

the

pertinent

permissions decided to organized a 8 weeks tournament where these youth had the chance to meet again, share and relief their feelings on the football field. The Tournament included mix training among participants with the objective of create

friendships

and

breakdown

the

competitiveness during the games. It was very nice to see those faces smiling again!

Leadership program One of the groups that is suffering the most the impact of the pandemic are those teenagers that have seen their educational careers stuck together with the lack of job opportunities. These factors have raised the feeling of frustration, demotivation and despair among these youth leading to anxiety and

mental

problem,

health

problems.

program for 10 young adults with the objective to equip the students with new knowledge about his topic as well as offering the opportunity to put their skill in practice by assisting the coaches during the Home Base Learning lessons.

HCTC English Camp The Hospitality and Catering Training Center is a project that offers training in hospitality to more than 30 Thai unprivileged students a year. HCTC has become one of the strongest partners

for

PlayOnside

bringing

a

close

collaboration in different events.

This year, PlayOnside took part in the HCTC’s English Camp, an English immersion activity that is organized by the school to build confidence

towards

the

English

language

among the students. PlayOnside deliver a short course based on healthy routines, sharing the value of sports and good practices to the students. Great experience for the students but also for us!

Capacity building courses One of the core values of PlayOnside is to give the opportunity to the future young leaders to learn, gain skills and experience within the organization. During these months we have delivered different courses related to different areas of the organization that will bring more quality to our program and provides the staff with new tools to understand and implement many different tasks. the courses went from First Aid training at Mae Tao Clinic, to Excel, photography and Monitor and Evaluation.

Reflections of today and the future Over the last months the world has changed in every single aspect of our lives but as it is said, "where there is a change there is an opportunity". And this is the way PlayOnside has taken this pandemic: an opportunity to adapt and to use football in a different way. A chance to rethink, self-evaluate and value the experience and resources we have. A moment to step up and take more responsibility. A chance to grow individually and as a team for the benefit of the community. And we believe that this is the right path to go that even being full of obstacles we will be able to overcome only if we all work together.
